this is likely Gilgamesh just after FFV and just before he shows up in FFXII's World, it is confirmed canonically via Dissidia that he been traveling the Void since his defeat by Bartz in FFV world, so it would not be unusual he is still in his prime by this point meaning that certain weaknesses he has not been attacked with yet has happened. Silence Spell would be one of them, usually a powerful character like Gilgamesh would be immune to such spells considering he is not human to begin with, however it is likely possible he will not be immune to it later down his years traveling Rift, it is possible that spells like Silence work differently in each world, would make sense cause spells like Fire in other FF games look different to FFVII's spells especially Remake. of course this is just my speculation but it does make sense from what we know of Gilgamesh

Can we talk about the fact that Gilgamesh *figured out how to use the Excalipoor to do damage* at 28:40? Like the man clocked 60 damage with that thing in the blink of an eye just by hitting Tifa REALLY REALLY FUCKING FAST. That's not Sloppy Swordplay, that's my man breaking physics to pieces to make Final Fantasy's most famous butter knife dangerous. Even if HP totals are four digits high, that's still better than us just pitching the thing once. EDIT: around 31:48 you have to keep an eye peeled but another use of Sloppy Swordplay with Excalipoor takes Tifa from 5482 to *3292* Greg just took Excalipoor and did 2190 damage. 1 damage at a time. *Fear* this man.
Each attack with Excalipoor got better. Legenderpy Strike(1 damage) ---> Sloppy Swordplay(60 damage) --> Shoddy Swordplay(2570 damage). When he uses Sloppy Swordplay again he cleaves Cloud and Aerith for about 2000 damage each.
Tbf, even in the original fight in FFV Gilgamesh was able to deal around 50-100 damage per attack after pulling out excalipoor. After all, he IS a master swordsman.
GILGAMESH'S weapons seem to be Naginata Muramasa Banana Fan Rune Axe Excalipoor Excalibur He doesn't seem to use what appears to be an Genji Club and perhaps a Imitation Buster Sword(Genji Blade?) on his back. He also sports limited use of the Genji Shield here as well.
Never thought I’d be considering Gilgamesh lore, but maybe he hasn’t gotten as far down the line as he was on FF12 where he did indeed have the buster sword, the gun blade and the brotherhood. Now that’s a game I need, Gilgamesh collecting weapons
Kinda looks like this'd pivot into XIII-2. Neon lights, coming from a world where guns were commonplace, then switching to a kit kinda like what he swings against Cloud. I know it's a little silly to try and track something like the timeline of Greg but it'd make a bit of sense.
I would say that 'club' on his back is the Nailbat from ff7. You can pull him up in the enemy intel and get a better look alongside that scrap buster sword
Man..... This is the coolest Gilgamesh of all. Goofy, flamboiant, yet honorable and formidable opponent. They did an amazing job. And his theme is always 🔥🔥
Ok as far as presentation definitely one of the best I still like the FFXII Gilgamesh the best but the theme really slaps and the voice actor did grow on me the more I watched the video
I never expected them to bring Gilgamesh into FF7, let alone the Remake games, but I am glad to see one of my favorite recurring parts of the series fits right at home lol Also I like what they did with his design, very robotic which fits with FF7’s whole psuedo-industrial vibe

I have always wonder why in viii all of his rights arms are seems to be broker/damaged, covered in his clothes, and he has that hockey stick like appendices in their place😂. A previous battle ended very badly for him perhaps?

My own feelings are that he first riftwarps to 8, which is why he's still battle injured, then stumbles into the 7verse to recuperate, get his memory back, then presumably warp to 12/dissidia/FF1DLC/SOPFFO/etc. I almost kinda hope they try and determine some sort of actual shared history for him, lol
Not our fault he comes to fight us carrying them, besides he has many sets of the Genji stuff why else we need to steal them anew every time we face him throughout ff universe, a bit of sharing won't hurt

The thing that made me go nuts about the Gilgamesh fight was when he use his 1hp excalipoor like 1000+ times for 1000+ damage in matter of seconds he might be goofy but dont sleep on him he is an extremely skilled swordmaster
@@scuppoUnfortunately, it’s not John DiMaggio (I don’t even think he’s been voicing Gilgamesh since he last voiced the character in 2011 with XIII-2.) The voice for Gilgamesh is definitely his current voice actor (Keith Szarabajka)… who might as well be Gilgamesh himself.
I really appreciate the fact that they gave us a number of variations of it too. And all this for just this one character and his side-quest. No wonder they recorded around 400 tracks for this game!

Interesting to think that this Gilgamesh is the Gilgamesh that appears in all FF games or at least the same one that appears in FF5. His "Rival" being Bartz. And very cool how he calls "Warriors of Light" by name at the end there. Its also interesting how Sephiroth seems to recognize him and knows he's not from their dimension.

According to what I'm seeing on the wiki, this version of Gilgamesh has now done battle in the worlds of FF1, FF4, FF5, FF7R, FF8, FF13, FF14, Dissidia, WoFF, Mobius, and SoP. Variations of him with different lore are in FF6, FF9, FF11, FF12, FF15, and Type 0. A Heartless who resembles him appears in Kingdom Hearts Unchained X as well.
I honestly could see that happening. And Clive wouldn't even need the powers of Ifrit - let alone prime into him. His sword skill enough would be a match for old Gilgamesh.
Unlike other recurring characters, like Cid and Biggs and Wedge ext, it is heavily implied that the different characters named Gilgamesh encountered in different Final Fantasy games are the same person, using the power of the Rift to travel to different worlds. His backstories change from game to game as they are forged to help him blend into every world he visits. The rival he talks about is Bartz btw.
If this Gilgamesh is canon to the Dissidia/Stranger of Paradise one, wonder where in his timeline this takes place. Especially as he's been presumed trapped on Gaia for a while based on Kid G's statement of guarding the Genji armor piece in Correl for a while.
23:09 after hearing hints and tidbits of “Battle on the Big Bridge”, you finally hear it’s true theme. Gone is the whimsical and eccentric tone, now it’s replaced with a interstellar guitar riff of the “Prelude” theme while playing the main battle motif signifying that this silly samurai you’ve constantly encountered is really an inter dimensional warrior ready to battle you in his full capacity.
The final battle is only possible because of one thing: Chronologically, Gilgamesh has not yet visited the FF8 universe and obtained Odin's Zantetsuken sword. Otherwise it's be outright impossible! Why: That sword inflicts instant death to everyone when used.
What else would they use for Gilgamesh at this point? It's basically his theme music, always getting remixed and covered in the style of whatever game he appears in.
33:50 "What fell thaumaturgy is this?" As the Thaumaturge class only existed in one game, guess that means we can put this appearance from Greg after his cameo in Final Fantasy XIV! Although as it seems he doesn't own a Buster Blade, I guess that also could mean this puts this event prior to his popping up in Final Fantasy XII.
I would put this early in his dimensional travels as he hasn't really started collecting character specific weapons nor does he have Zantetsuken he claimed from FF8's Odin. He doesn't understand technology (yet he does understand come his ff13-2 battle)

I find kinda poetic you summoned Odin to help you defeat Gilgamesh. Since Gilgamesh replaces Odin in FFVIII (and defeats Seifer, who vanquished Odin), it feels like Gilgamesh does it to pay respect to Odin for being a member of the party that defeated him here.

Can we talk about the fact that Gilgamesh *figured out how to use the Excalipoor to do damage* at 28:40?
Like the man clocked 60 damage with that thing in the blink of an eye just by hitting Tifa REALLY REALLY FUCKING FAST. That's not Sloppy Swordplay, that's my man breaking physics to pieces to make Final Fantasy's most famous butter knife dangerous. Even if HP totals are four digits high, that's still better than us just pitching the thing once.
EDIT: around 31:48 you have to keep an eye peeled but another use of Sloppy Swordplay with Excalipoor takes Tifa from 5482 to *3292*
Greg just took Excalipoor and did 2190 damage. 1 damage at a time. *Fear* this man.
Each attack with Excalipoor got better. Legenderpy Strike(1 damage) ---> Sloppy Swordplay(60 damage) --> Shoddy Swordplay(2570 damage).
When he uses Sloppy Swordplay again he cleaves Cloud and Aerith for about 2000 damage each.

Tbf, even in the original fight in FFV Gilgamesh was able to deal around 50-100 damage per attack after pulling out excalipoor. After all, he IS a master swordsman.

Kinda looks like this'd pivot into XIII-2. Neon lights, coming from a world where guns were commonplace, then switching to a kit kinda like what he swings against Cloud. I know it's a little silly to try and track something like the timeline of Greg but it'd make a bit of sense.
I would say that 'club' on his back is the Nailbat from ff7. You can pull him up in the enemy intel and get a better look alongside that scrap buster sword

@@Massimiliano85IMO while 8 was made after 7, it could easily take before 7, in the same way 10-2 implies that it's a prequel to 7. My own feelings are that he first riftwarps to 8, which is why he's still battle injured, then stumbles into the 7verse to recuperate, get his memory back, then presumably warp to 12/dissidia/FF1DLC/SOPFFO/etc. I almost kinda hope they try and determine some sort of actual shared history for him, lol

According to what I'm seeing on the wiki, this version of Gilgamesh has now done battle in the worlds of FF1, FF4, FF5, FF7R, FF8, FF13, FF14, Dissidia, WoFF, Mobius, and SoP. Variations of him with different lore are in FF6, FF9, FF11, FF12, FF15, and Type 0. A Heartless who resembles him appears in Kingdom Hearts Unchained X as well.
After the battle, Gil will go to Valisthea (FFXVI's World) to battle Clive Rosfield

His backstories change from game to game as they are forged to help him blend into every world he visits.

Chronologically, Gilgamesh has not yet visited the FF8 universe and obtained Odin's Zantetsuken sword. Otherwise it's be outright impossible!
Why: That sword inflicts instant death to everyone when used.
One thing that can be counted on any time Greg comes around - The music will be fantastic and the experience will be memorable...and probably amusing.
No matter what world or version it is. Greg is sure one character of all time.

I find kinda poetic you summoned Odin to help you defeat Gilgamesh. Since Gilgamesh replaces Odin in FFVIII (and defeats Seifer, who vanquished Odin), it feels like Gilgamesh does it to pay respect to Odin for being a member of the party that defeated him here.
