Let’s just say one quarter of the people who watched this started using cups. That’s 71.5 MILLION disposable period products not going into the ocean. Thank you Shan. 👏🏻👌🏻
It a shame menstrual cups aren’t advertised on tv like other sanitary products I think a lot more women would try them and judging by my experience never go back
Anita Varley i have thought the same but the reality is that pads and tampons will bring more money than cups that last several years 🙂 basic greedy companies as usual
Spread it by word of mouth. Use the share button. Mega companies use propaganda to keep people using crappy products that are bad for them. Side step the millions of dollars spent and go on the streets
kkh369 let her be. Whether she wears a lot or not that’s not your choices so please stop or leave. Cause the negativity you are giving out right now isn’t wanted here
I went with two friends to buy our first moon cups. It was nice sharing tips learning to use them and have "support", youtubers wasn't a thing ten years back. Once I really thought that I can't get it out and was panicing, then called one of those friends. She was super calming and reassured that I can do it, it really helped me out - didn't need other kind of assistance, thank goodness :D in the beginning it's better not to cut the stem, it helps learning to remove the cup but after it's really much more comfy without it.
I switched to a menstrual cup last year and I’m honestly so mad I didn’t switch sooner! I love it so much and can definitely say it’s changed my life 🙌🏻
Jenni Rose I was scared of that too! As long as you’ve gotten the hang of inserting it so that it’s inserted correctly there’s no spillage whatsoever. It’s definitely a learning process but once you’re used to it, it’s super easy!
So excited that more and more women are embracing menstrual cups. We are the first Kenyan cup based in Nairobi. We also make videos with tips about the cup ❤
People often bleed less than they think because some pads and tampons are made to make you think you bleed more so you change them more often :). Also, because when you bleed on a or or tampon, the blood kinds “bleeds out” or spreads out, giving the illusion that you’ve bled more than you actually have.
I’m glad you made this video. It’s 2018 and if women are afraid to talk about their period that’s actually a sad thing. No women should be ashamed of something that makes her a women, makes her a vessel for the creation of life. Besides the fact of helping the environment and not using things that contain chemicals we may not know of.
I'd totally buy that plastic phone case in some plastic wrapping and a plastic mug with a little save the world symbol. Hashtag Eco Worriors Hastag Save the turtle. Hashtag girl power.
Been using menstrual cups for almost 10 years now. The lesser flow and fewer cramps can definitely be a result of switching - it's certainly what I found. Has to do with the chemicals used in typical sanitary products. I love that I only have to empty and rinse my cup twice a day - morning and night - and not have to deal with my period the rest of the time. Also that you can swim with it in! Do be sure to boil your cup after your period ends (i.e. once a month, after use) to be sure it's properly sanitised.
where have I been? I've only heard about these in the last few months and yeah I'm so going to try it. in my late 30s have been using pads for so many years it will be a matter of getting use to inserting it but I'm so for it!
I am a bit late to comment but I have a hot tip for those who come along later and are curious. Fold and insert and then pull it out slightly and push it back in. I feel like this helps it to inflate from its folded form and creates a better suction so you don't leak at all. When I first starting using it I could feel it and now I forget that I am on my period. I love my cup! Highly recommended ladies.
I've got issues when i pull it out..i cant get the vaccum out even with pinching ..so i feel like am pulling out my uterus 😲..help..i really want to keep using it..
@@see2saw I don't break the vaccum and I just pop that sucker out so I am not sure. I would suggest inserting a finger up the side of it, curling your finger at the tip and pull out the cup with that finger. But as I said I haven't come across this issue so I don't know lol hope this helps.
@@see2saw try putting your thump in the middle with your 2 other fingers on the other side so you get an U fold inside. This way the cup is smaller and easier to remove. ( sorry for my bad English, European here)
I ordered mine from RUBY CUP & for every purchase they donate a cup to girls in other countries that dont have access to feminine hygiene products 👌 Also another plus for their cups is they dont have a super long stem that hangs down so you wont have that rubbing/ irritating thing basically in between your legs! ❤ your videos & glad to know more people are talking about menstrual cups ✌👌
that long stem is designed to be cut to the size of your vagina! everyone's vagina is different lengths inside (especially during their cycle as the cervix moves) so you put it in, figure out where on the stick is the right length and then cut off the excess :)
My period got so much more manageable with my diva cup. I will never go back to anything else. My cramps got better and my period stopped being as heavy, also. I’ve convinced a few friends to try & they’re so happy, too. It’s not nearly as messy or “strange” as most women fear it will be. So happy it works for you.
I try to use just pads because im terrified of TSS and the chemicals and bleach in tampons but i also hate the gross feeling you get with pads, definetly wanna try a cup! Your vid makes me less nervous to make the change :)
If you don’t try the diva cup, there’s all natural tampons I use that are GREAT! They’re super affordable too!! I get them at Target & I think they’re the brand called “L”!
❤️Love you for this ❤️ First time users apply in shower, nice hot water, relax and insert. Been using menstrual cups for 3 years. To be honest any brand will do. Best thing about switching is it made my 7day period into a 4-5day and no cramps. Also I keep mine from 8am-9pm, I shower remove and clean it with a fragrance free soap. Pop it back in and ladies I can sleep naked again on my shark week. I sometimes forget Im on my period. Is the best thing, if you workout, usually I could feel the tampon but now I pop in my cup go to the gym and I cant feel anything. I do remove it and rinse after gym while I shower. ‼️Keep a lil bottle of water in your purse to rinse(if you remove it constantly, I don’t anymore) ‼️ ‼️Switch ladies switch‼️
Do you get many blood clots? I get really large clots most months (fibroid tumors), and am curious if that causes any issues in regards to using this form of protection.
Kimberly Kelly The blood does not clot with a menstrual cup at all! That only happens when the blood comes in contact with the air. The cup makes the blood look less gross!
Hi guys! Since we’re talking periods, I wanna share a short story. I had toxic shock syndrom. If you don’t know what it is, look it up. It’s a dangerous thing which could cause your limbs to rot or even cause dead. I got the disease thanks to a tampon. It’s rare but please be aware. I was at a party and fell asleep wearing my tampon. I was wearing it from 8 pm until 10 am. I felt a little sick the day after. It got worse and I felt strange. I couldn’t walk, eat or do anything. My grandma took me to the hospital where the doctors told me I had tss. Luckily I was in an early stage and only had to stay for 3 nights. I do not want to scare you, but I want to warn you. Please change your tampon in time.
No cramps is a common thing for most women who use them. I’m glad you had a great experience. They are the best invention I hope one day all women use them. I will be starting my daughters on reusable products straight away. My eldest is 9 and has chosen fabric to have her own reusable pads made which she is excited about. Once she is ready we will get her a cup, I don’t want to teach my kids to harm our planet like I have done for many years.
Haphazard Life That is awesome. I found a stay at home mother who makes them here in NZ. I love supporting small companies. She had heaps of fabric patterns to choose from including Harry Potter, My Little Ponies and Pokémon. We got a “starter” set, which includes liners, regular absorbency and super, they all come with there own little pockets like disposable ones do so she can fold them up and put them inside before putting in her carry case at school etc. She also chose a different fabric for each type of pad.
I just bought one and am patiently awaiting my period to try it out! Saving the environment and saving money at the same time is a win win. I’ve had dryness when using tampons as well so a more natural and healthy option really sold me.
Im so glad youre making this video, we need more ladies trying eco-friendly and sustainable period products. :) The first one I tried was the Mooncup, but I burned it while boiling it to clean it, and the material was a bit too hard for me, Im using a softer one now and I LOOVING IT, everytime I think of using a pad or a tampon, I get anxiety because I can just imagine all of them going to landfills and oceans...
oh yea and the way I clean mine is by boiling it for 5 mins in water, thats it, and I cut the long tip of the cup to make it shorter because it was hurting me :O
I think it's SO good and so IMPORTANT to use your platform this way. Ecofriendly option and also talking about periods and normalising these types of conversations. You probably have some younger viewers who perhaps do not know their options, so these are the kinds of videos they should be watching just so they can gain more knowledge without mainstream media brainwashing them into thinking that talking about their periods is taboo or shouldn't even be talked about.
Both are wrong. Please follow the instructions and of the manufacturer. It depends on what the cup is made of. Some can't be boiled, some can't have any chemical put on them.
Rachël Rogers i have always boiled mine to sanitize them at the start only n then just rinse them out throughly under warm running water n then put it back in. I have been doing it this for over 6mths n have never had any issues whatsoever!
@@zelithabecanalster1317 yes you do. It's recommended to sanitize after every period whether it's by boiling, buying a special sanitizer or using sanitizer tablets but you need to sanitize to keep it clean
Alright, someone might have already mentioned this in the comments BUT this is really important. DO NOT EVER wash your menstrual cup with regular hand/body soap! It may mess up your vaginal pH, disrupt your natural healthy bacterial flora and it may cause vaginal yeast infection. Boil it between periods and use a specfic cleanser designed for menstrual cups (as seen in the video, Lunette sell their own specific cleanser). With that said, as a cup user for almost 2 years now I am never going back to pads/tampons. The cup is a total game changer. Also if you use any type of IUD (copper or hormonal) do consult your gynecologist before trying any cup, some recommend using specific cups if you have an IUD.
kali lo To be sure I would still use a cleanser designed for menstrul cup cleansing. Although something like summer’s eve will not mess up your pH, it will not clean the cup thoroughly enough.
If anyone else has experienced pulling out a dry tampon on the last day of you period like I have 😣 feels like your entire foo is being turned inside out hahaha I reckon these would be so painless!
I had that problem reversed with every tampon change - even on my heavier days I couldn’t get the fresh one in because I was so dry. Not a problem with the cup.
The NZ brand MyCup also donates one cup to a homeless person or person in need! It's the best brand I have tried so far, and I have tried a diva cup and a lily cup, and the mycup is the best. It takes a little while to get used to, a few months I would say. I have used a menstrual cup since my second period (so like..... 11 years) and I swear by it. It's so amazing. I use liners sometimes just to be safe, but it is honestly the most comfortable way. I haven't finished the video yet but I hope u like them!!!
I don't have a My Cup only because I had already purchased a different one but love the work they do! They donate heaps and do so much to educate women.
I totally agree I tried a couple before I tried mycup and it's the only one I use now. Also the fact that they donate one when you buy is a bonus. Period poverty is such s problem I'm glad this company is doing there part to combat it ☺️
I actually tried the Diva Cup for the first time this month and loved it! Interesting for sure but my flow is heavy at the beginning so I had the opposite experience at first. Learning curve I suppose. No more tampons or pads for this girl! Whoop whoop!
Best thing that happened to my period. I've never going to use a tampon again. I switch almost two years ago and I'm so happy I almost forget that I'm on my period.
Can I just say that I’m an EXTREMELY like EXTREMELY happy and thankful for this video!!! More beauty gurus should be doing videos such as this (cost effective environmentally friendly alternative products for women) 🙌🏽 YES thank you! I’ve not had a period in 10 years (thank you Skyla) however there may be a day I will need a feminine cup and this video helps me make the choice to do so at that time
I use the Saalt cup, honestly love it so much. In addition to being hella better for the environment, the company also helps get period products to women in developing countries.
You want to insert it then pull down a little to have it fall into place. It actually will then suction cup almost to your insides if you will so spotting won't happen. If your spotting, it just hasn't been suctioned cupped around ya properly. Weird trying to describe this, lol. There are different ways to put it in, so play around with it until you find what you prefer. You want a lip, but not a big lip because thats what keeps ya from leaking. A lot of people cut off the nub at the bottom too to make it more comfortable.
I’ve been using a menstrual cup for over 10 years, first a diva cup and now a Luna cup. I’ll be using the Hello cup next. It’s good to get a new one every 5 years or so 😊 All these girls saying how they have dryness from tampons are making me cringe! TSS (toxic shock syndrome) is caused from the tiny tears on the vaginal wall, and the more dry your vagina is the easier it will tear. Which is why tampon packs specifically tell you to not use too high an absorbency. The dry, scratching you feel when you pull out a tampon is you putting tears on your vaginal wall and letting in germs 😓 Menstrual cups are much safer option in regards to that!
When she was saying she was really dry around her period I knew straight away she has to be using the wrong absorbency , then a bit into the video she did she goes straight for the super absorbent tampons , never the normal ones .. that’s hella dangerous
I don’t have a period anymore (hysterectomy at a very young age) but I have two girls one of which will be starting her period soon. I’m gonna talk to her about the cups and hopefully NEVER get her started on tampons. Thank you so much for helping to normalize conversations like these!
Yaaass I have an 8 year old daughter and would love for cups to be the go to thing for the next generation of girls on their periods! The ocean is not for tampons, it's for turtles!!
Lilliz91 You won’t lose your virginity by using either tampons or a menstrual cup. It’s a common and sometimes harmful myth that tearing your hymen==losing your virginity. The hymen could tear from doing strenuous activity or even riding a horse. A virgin is simply someone who hasn’t yet had sex.
Hannah Minns yes, I’m sad I didn’t discover them sooner. I first learned of them from Jen fromheadtotoe. And ordered a Sckoon Cup from Amazon. I will never go back to a tampon. It’s been years. So much more comfortable, and I can’t feel it. Only have to change it first thing in the morning and then not again until night. I trimmed the stem to my liking. I literally recommend it to every girl anytime the matter of “periods” get brought up!
I am from Finland and I have used the Lunette Cup (a brand from Finland👍🏼) for almost 4 years! It’s incredible and I will never again use tampons or pads!
My menstrual cup has changed my period!!! It's shorter. Less cramping. And the planet needs us. Our bodies do too. Tampon companies don't have to label how they cultivate and that's wrong. We need to know whats going in our bodies! It's our right. With a cup, you know. It's easy. All period havers should just do it.
Ive wanted to try these for a while! I just wanted to say though, you using the ultra tampons MAY be part of the reason it was drying you out, because in tampon instructions they say to use the lowest absorbency possible. So if you went straight to heavy, that may not be a good idea. Its best to try light first and maybe put a pad on as well just in case it leaks, and then go up to see which absorbency you need
If the menstrual cup doesn't work out for you, you can also try reusable menstrual cloth pads. Another great reusable option and there are tons of shapes, absorbencies and amazing top fabrics you can get! I recommend finding an FB page or TH-cam page where you can learn all about them. I great FB page is The SSoPA or "Secret Society of Pad Addicts." It's a great resource for those wanting to learn more and also great for helping you find makers. A great TH-camr I would look into is Pad Thai, her video "Tips for Newbies p. 1: Cloth Pad Community" is a great place to start. She also has info and reviews on cups and cloth pad makers!
I love my Diva Cup! Made the switch a year ago and it has definitely paid for itself twice over. Helping to keep all the waste from landfills and oceans is a huge plus, too. Tmi hint: when removing the cup, bear down with your muscles like you do when you poop. It'll push the cup further down and make it easier to break the seal.
@@latoyabauman631 are you able to reach the stem?... or the cup itself? If you can, just give the bottom of the cup a little squeeze, that should break the seal the cup made :)
Will actually go and buy one after watching this video. Thank you for speaking so openly and confident about something so “taboo”, if you get want I mean. Haha 🙌🏼
Remember ladies that one size does NOT fit all. MeLuna has literally the most extensive line of cups, and the only cup in possibly the world that fits my tiny kitty. Do your research before you buy. I tried three other cups before settling on the one I've used for the last few years.
I saw this video on my twitter TL today and I have literally been watching your channel for hours now. You’re so beautiful & I feel like I’ve been feeling down on myself lately and I feel like watching you has given me so much confidence back! It’s so easy to see TH-camrs with the Botox and whatever else and feel like I can’t possibly attain that. But seeing you do looks that can be everyday wear and be possible with products that you can order or buy at the store feels really good! 💕 Also, I think it’s so funny when you do the almost American accent for a moment. So cute and funny!
LOVE that you talk so openly about menstruation and menstrual cups. I had complications with mine... I own four cups now because I didn’t know about all that factors into choosing the right cup (size, firmness, shape). Now I have one that has the right firmness for my pelvic floor muscles and, tmi, thanks to my boyfriend I know mire precisely where my cervix is located and therefore where to put the cup. I can’t imagine going back to tampons. Yes, it takes practice. But no more vaginal dryness, no more moist string in your panties, no more waste and once it’s in the right spot it’s so safe and you can ho swimming with it.
Sometimes when you first insert it you get spotting just from the blood that was closer to the opening that didn’t make it into the cup. As for the feeling it when walking around you may feel the stem which you can trim so you don’t feel it.
Girl! Thank you for this review. This topic is so taboo but, needs to be addressed for obvious reasons! I am very curious about this! So, this is a great topic for A LOT of women!!
The spotting occurs when you insert the Cup after the period starts as theres blood in the lower cervix already and the cup wont absorb that . U shouldnt feel the cup so it wasnt Hugh enough. If you can feel the antenna w your finger when standing, THEN U need to push it more upwords. Ive had the cup for 8 years now. 2nd cup in use at the mo.
My mum taught me to use tampons, but then I had a problem, I was getting really sick every time I had my period. I switched to pads, but even years later, I still hate the feeling of them. I started sewing, but honestly I'm not making reusable pads because I know they will be a horrific mess. I might make some liners, though. I've been thinking about trying a cup for a while now. When you said you're basically converted on your first period using a cup, well that's really got me... I'm going to try this, and if it works for me, I'll be teaching my daughter to use them when it's her time. "The ocean is not for tampons, it's for turtles!"
Dwarf Dragonwulf You might want to check which chemicals you allergic to. Most of the cups are made of silicone. It might not be a good if you have silicone allergy. There are alternatives like cups that made from TPE or use organic sea sponge instead of tampon.
I switched to a menstrual cup a little over a year ago and it has been the best decision of my life! I was experiencing super heavy periods out where I was blowing through super tampons like crazy and still having leaks. I use the diva cup and I have been leak free and have saved soooo much money! I feel like it's def worth the try!!!
@@fubbbgggvg4152 you know I'm unsure. I know the diva cup brand has worked for me. I think one thing that helps prevents the leaks is these tiny little holes that helps the suction. If your browsing I would look for that and making sure it is silicone so that it can be reuseable
I use the diva cup and it's absolutely my favorite! I started using it when I was 18 and am almost 22. I hate the feeling of tampons and am super scared/paranoid to TSS and cups solved that fear! Also they help keep in touch with your body. Thank you for spreading the word on something that helps the environment and women! Would you consider making a second video now on if you still use it? Why/why not?
yesssss cups changed my life! whenever the subject of periods/hygiene products comes up I recommend them to anyone who will listen lmao. TY for doing this video🙏
I just put mine in a glass cup with water covering the menstrual cup and put it in the microwave for 3 minutes, let it cool and use. It's easy and very sanitary, but i do keep the glass cup for that purpose only. And the part that sold me to use menstrual cups is the fact that i can sleep with it, and WITHOUT panties, so liberating!
Love that you gave these a try. It can take a bit to get use to it but once you get use to it, you'll never go back! Plus saves money and helps the environment 🌿
I’m only 15 and I was disgusted by the waste that pads and tampons produced so I thought I’d try a reusable product. I was going to get fabric pads, but then found out that a menstrual cup is a lot less trouble to store, change and clean/sanitise. I have the hello cup in size teen/xs and it works great for me. I’m gonna try the s/m size next because I bought that too. It will save me so much money over time!!!! P.S: The punchdown fold is great!!
I don't use sanitary products anymore, not cause I'm gross 😋 but long complicated history and a hysterectomy later...I'm freeee ☺ I used a period cup but because of said history I had to stop but I switched to period pants. They were great and may be for those of you who can't stomach tampons/cups. Watch Safiya Nygard's video on period pants. Shan has her channel linked already. There are so many to choose from you'll find the right reusable product for you. Great video Shannon as always, lots of love to you 😘😍😘 💙💜❤ xxxx
I am all about saving and improving the environment! Before this video i never considered how harmful the packaging for tampons and pads was, but I am definitely going to be trying these out! Thank you girl!
I use the Diva cup and the Lena cup and I wash my cups with a cheap baby soap (any mild soap will do) and warm water. I also boil my cups for 5 minutes after my period has ended. And when you are taking it out, fold it in half when it is inside you, and then pull it out. It makes removal way easier and you don’t feel it at all. I recommend checking out Precious Stars Pads to learn more about RUMPS (reusable menstrual products) Love this video and your channel xo
I wouldn’t recommend folding it to take it out, that could result is mess! Instead you can simply grab the bottom half of it or the stem and gently pull it out. You can also push with your vagina muscles, or gently squeeze the upper rim inside to release the suction to pull it out easier 😊
Stepford Witch The most important part is breaking the seal. For some, it definitely involves folding cup while pulling out. Who cares about a mess? You’re sitting over a toilet and you wash your hands after anyway.
I have a Diva cup2 & On my 2 heavy days i fill a cup in like 3hours lol if i were to fold it blood would be over my entire hand lol. Good tip on baby sop never thought to clean it w that! Cheaper too!
Tampons made me so dry also! Gah I hated the feeling of pulling them out! Apparently the fullness of tampons is not just from the blood but because of the moisture in your vajay jay. I personally have been using the Diva cup for 1 year and will never go back my period is so much more bearable now! I recommend once you are more comfortable to change it in the shower, I keep my sanatising wash in the shower squat and take it out clean and put it back in after, saves time and also because I leave it in for at least 8 hours, it means I don’t have to change it at work or when I’m out :) x
My 21 year old daughter uses them and loves them. She has been using them for a couple of years now. Unfortunately for me, I never got a chance to use this sort of thing. This is a great idea. Very environmentally friendly!💕
I use Monthlycup, and even though I haven't had any children, I opted for the larger one just because I'm a heavier bleeder. I will literally FILL a cup several times a day on the worst day. I felt it was a bit odd the first few days, taking it in and out took a bit of getting used to, but it's not like using a tampon came super natural for anyone lol. I've had my cup for a good 3 years, love it! TMI: I have not had any excess discharge since changing to the cup and stopped using soap "down there". Even the soap they advertise as "healthy" to use down there isn't good for you. Also use toilet paper that hasn't been bleached or colored.
Just FYI for any ladies reading this, vaginal discharge is NORMAL! Please stop using feminine soaps, they are not good for you. Your vagina cleans itself which is why there is discharge. Soaps disturb you vaginas natural pH and bacteria flora and can actually INCREASE your risk for yeast and bacterial infections. The only time you should be worried about discharge is if it starts smelling particularly foul or fishy, starts looking like cottage cheese, turns a strange color (more yellow or green than usual), or is significantly heavier than your normal. Do a little research and talk to your doctor if you have concerns but please stop thinking that discharge is anything but normal.
Thank you for sharing your experience very openly and honestly! I'm terrified to use these. I have to use extra light petite tampons because anything too large hurts waaaaay too bad so that's what's been holding me back! Thanks again though Shannon. No drama, just great content. I appreciate it.
Fyi you can cut the tail a bit so that you cant feel it. Also the spotting is probably from insertion rather than spillage so just make sure you wipe it/ yourself well after insertion xxx
I love my cup it’s amazing so much better than tampons!! Well done Shannon for making this video. You can just use hand soap to wash your cup and sanitize in boiling water. You can also use a water based lube to help putting the cup in. Also if you can feel the stem sticking out you can cut it off and gently file it with a nail file. Hope this helps x
I would advise against them if you have issues with blood. If you are scared because you might get things dirty or you have to get to know your body better... You should give them a try. I was very apprehensive myself because I have a horrible periods, HORRIBLE, super messy very painful. My cup has changed my life for the better! Been using it for over a year and I'm never going back. Dont let your normal hold you back from trying new things.
I am definitely considering getting one. My only worry is that I’ve never used tampons before so I’m not accustomed to the feeling of something like the menstrual cup or tampon but I really want to order one because I’m such a light bleeder I feel like it’s a waste anyway 😂 thank you for this, it’s so wonderful to not only see someone WILLINGLY talking about periods but normalising different symptoms ❤️
The cramping thing is not a coincidence. It doesn't happen for everybody, but when it happens for you, you're lucky. I used to crap really bad for two days. On work days I couldn't go without pretty strong pain killers. I keep relating this and I do remember a few certain situations, but altogether, when thinking back now it feels like a different life. It was the same for me. First period with a cup was my first period without cramps. And they never came back. I'm happy for you to have found this.
Fuck I love your honesty! Never TMI girl 😛 I feel like I’m gonna have to try the cup now. I’ve been curious about it for the last couple years and after seeing so many comments saying how good they are etc, imma have to do it 🤭🤷🏽♀️
Shan! A lot of people get cramps from their tampons because it's ever so slightly hitting their cervix. Not because it's in wrong or anything but just how some of us are shaped. And most people never put two and two together to realize why they're having the cramps. So because there is no tampon stabbing your cervix, you're less likely to have cramps from the cup :)
I started using my moon cup about 18 months again and i am NEVER going back, literally blew my mind how much I loved it compared to tampons! Plus better for the environment and my wallet which is a bonus
Menstrual cups are the best! I used to think they were gross and scary and would never use one. But post baby #1 I couldn't do tampons due to scarring and I hated pads. I tried a divacup out of desperation. It was a bit of a learning curve. Took me 2 or 3 cycles to get used to it but I'm hooked forever. Way easier than tampons, once I learned how to get it properly in I could not feel it at all, I could leave it in 12 hours so no taking it out at work 👍. I took a quiz and next time I get a period (post partum with baby 2 and haven't got my period back) I'll be trying out a fleurcup!
Yes! Took me a few cycles too to figure it out but I'm glad I stuck it out! I remember taking a quiz too which helped determine the most suitable brand/cup shape for you but I can't remember where I found it. If someone could post the link it would be extremely helpful for curious people!
THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS REVIEW!!!! I have wanted to try but have been too scared. I appreciate that you were willing to risk embarrassment to share this info with us!!!
Chanty Ledesma Me too! I use pads and i use in the day those ultra night ones which they say its supposed to stay for 8hours..they last 3-4 hours for me so... :/
I use overnight pads paired with ultra tampons and go through both within 1.5 hours. It is misery. The cup gives me a break...I can go 6 hours before a change.
I switched to menstrual cups a few months ago and it's the BEST thing I've ever done! I feel far more sanitary and like odor is far less of a problem! It's AMAZING! Also my cup is a million times more comfortable than a tampon I don't have to change it or feel uncomfortable everytime I pee through out the day. I've never had a leak with mine so far so good! I found changing it and cleaning it in the shower is definitely easier for clean up.
I really have to applaud you for making this video. It’s such a personal topic and product but this video is going to give so many people an insight into alternative sanitary products that we’ve probably all been so curious about. Defiantly a great upload 💞
I am highly highly interested in trying these out. I always feel like I bleed so heavy. I hate pads so I always use tampons & they always seem to dry me out as well. Thanks for being so open abt periods. & yes the ocean is for turtles!!! 🐢💕💕💕

NERDYBIRDIE 001 - precious star pads!! Very informative
I have this irrational fear that it's just going to suction to my cervix and I'm going to require assistance to get it out.😬
I went with two friends to buy our first moon cups.
Mooncups are $1 on ebay
I switched to a menstrual cup last year and I’m honestly so mad I didn’t switch sooner! I love it so much and can definitely say it’s changed my life 🙌🏻
Rachel Turkentine i want to try it so bad but I’m afraid if I use it to work out or something it’ll all spill out 😖😖
Jenni Rose I was scared of that too! As long as you’ve gotten the hang of inserting it so that it’s inserted correctly there’s no spillage whatsoever. It’s definitely a learning process but once you’re used to it, it’s super easy!
I feel you this one, I’ll go to the grave with mine!
Allyssa Saunders same here! Never going back

We have same names 😂
Unless you are me and fills up three cups a day. 😑 so annoying though

We should DIY it!
Yeeeeeessssssss
Been using menstrual cups for almost 10 years now. The lesser flow and fewer cramps can definitely be a result of switching - it's certainly what I found. Has to do with the chemicals used in typical sanitary products.
I love that I only have to empty and rinse my cup twice a day - morning and night - and not have to deal with my period the rest of the time. Also that you can swim with it in!
Do be sure to boil your cup after your period ends (i.e. once a month, after use) to be sure it's properly sanitised.
A Thousand Words I've noticed a lessening of pain too! It's amazing.
where have I been? I've only heard about these in the last few months and yeah I'm so going to try it.
in my late 30s have been using pads for so many years it will be a matter of getting use to inserting it but I'm so for it!
I have a question are you able to pee with it on or what ?
How hot should the water be like boiling hot or ? Lol I don’t wanna melt it
mari gallegos boil it on the oven top for couple minutes. It’s made to stand that heat, don’t worry
Same, I got my friend into it.
Same see2saw!!!
@@michaelajw_ I understand that. Just throwing the option that worked out for me👌
My period got so much more manageable with my diva cup. I will never go back to anything else. My cramps got better and my period stopped being as heavy, also. I’ve convinced a few friends to try & they’re so happy, too. It’s not nearly as messy or “strange” as most women fear it will be. So happy it works for you.
Can u pee whit it on
if you meant pee then yes, of course you can
Thanx 😍😍😍
I really want to try one but I'm so scared it will get stuck up there 🙈
Rachel Shennan it won't, you have to be patient when you take it out the first few times 😊
I try to use just pads because im terrified of TSS and the chemicals and bleach in tampons but i also hate the gross feeling you get with pads, definetly wanna try a cup! Your vid makes me less nervous to make the change :)

‼️Keep a lil bottle of water in your purse to rinse(if you remove it constantly, I don’t anymore) ‼️
‼️Switch ladies switch‼️
Do you get many blood clots? I get really large clots most months (fibroid tumors), and am curious if that causes any issues in regards to using this form of protection.
Kimberly Kelly The blood does not clot with a menstrual cup at all! That only happens when the blood comes in contact with the air. The cup makes the blood look less gross!
@@Bodille wow. Great. Thank you.
During your shark week? 😂 Love it
Most definitely gonna look into it
Yaasss girl!! Menstrual cups for the win! They take a few periods to get used to but totally worth it!!
And your cup. You CAN get tss from the cup.
What brand was it? That's so scary
Noo Emi just a regular tampax, not bashing the brand, this could happen with every brand
Ethel Lr OMG I need to stop now😰
Thank you for that info,i had just asked that question too.
I bought a nude pink in size S and I loved it.It's cute and I didn't leak.
"The ocean is not for tampons, it is for turtles" ❤ you're a cutie 😂
Yeah because they usually use tampons as a Rollie filter.. turtles are tough.
That should be put on a tshirt
Im so glad youre making this video, we need more ladies trying eco-friendly and sustainable period products. :) The first one I tried was the Mooncup, but I burned it while boiling it to clean it, and the material was a bit too hard for me, Im using a softer one now and I LOOVING IT, everytime I think of using a pad or a tampon, I get anxiety because I can just imagine all of them going to landfills and oceans...
oh yea and the way I clean mine is by boiling it for 5 mins in water, thats it,
and I cut the long tip of the cup to make it shorter because it was hurting me :O
It does get softer and more supple the more you use it xxx
I think it's SO good and so IMPORTANT to use your platform this way. Ecofriendly option and also talking about periods and normalising these types of conversations. You probably have some younger viewers who perhaps do not know their options, so these are the kinds of videos they should be watching just so they can gain more knowledge without mainstream media brainwashing them into thinking that talking about their periods is taboo or shouldn't even be talked about.
Make sure to boil them in hot water to really sanitize them!!!
Rachël Rogers you actually don’t need to it just helps some people feel safer
@@zelithabecanalster1317 its recommended to boil after each period just in case
Alright, someone might have already mentioned this in the comments BUT this is really important. DO NOT EVER wash your menstrual cup with regular hand/body soap! It may mess up your vaginal pH, disrupt your natural healthy bacterial flora and it may cause vaginal yeast infection. Boil it between periods and use a specfic cleanser designed for menstrual cups (as seen in the video,
Lunette sell their own specific cleanser). With that said, as a cup user for almost 2 years now I am never going back to pads/tampons. The cup is a total game changer. Also if you use any type of IUD (copper or hormonal) do consult your gynecologist before trying any cup, some recommend using specific cups if you have an IUD.
Could u use summers eve body wash??
kali lo To be sure I would still use a cleanser designed for menstrul cup cleansing. Although something like summer’s eve will not mess up your pH, it will not clean the cup thoroughly enough.
If anyone else has experienced pulling out a dry tampon on the last day of you period like I have 😣 feels like your entire foo is being turned inside out hahaha I reckon these would be so painless!
lol, the struggle is real.
@Cindy I never know when my last day is, I have a normal flow and then it stops abruptly 🙈
I had that problem reversed with every tampon change - even on my heavier days I couldn’t get the fresh one in because I was so dry. Not a problem with the cup.
So relatable
They are painless
I actually really appreciate this video, I’m sure it was a bit uncomfortable to make. I’ve been extremely curious about the Diva Cup.

All these girls saying how they have dryness from tampons are making me cringe!

Talk to a doctor first especially if they’re a virgin.

I am from Finland and I have used the Lunette Cup (a brand from Finland👍🏼) for almost 4 years! It’s incredible and I will never again use tampons or pads!
Suomi mainittu torille (ja ite ostin tänään kuukupin👍🏼 :D)
I have problems getting the diva cup out.. do you have any tips to help a girl out. I really want to make the change but it’s scary.
@@latoyabauman631 are you able to reach the stem?... or the cup itself? If you can, just give the bottom of the cup a little squeeze, that should break the seal the cup made :)

Lmao right?!
Such a beautiful eye look! Mesmerizing actually.
I put mine in ahead of the flow for that very reason.....another unique advantage of the cup :)
Tips or video recommendations for inserting the cup and how to know when inserted correctly?
Aimee Weippert I’d suggest looking into precious star pads!

Best decision I've made yet! I will never use a tampon again! I use The Diva Cup, great brand, and I've used it for over a year now!!
Kelly Lane luna is another good brand.
There’s actually a New Zealand made brand called the Hello Cup, They’re a new company and it’d be amazing for them to get some exposure!!

They are an awesome cup to!! I have been using them the last 2 weeks and they are great for me
I’m only 15 and I was disgusted by the waste that pads and tampons produced so I thought I’d try a reusable product.

Can someone put this on a t-shirt for me? 😂

Delilah Finn do it. I'll buy 😂
I can put it on a shirt!! Lemme know if looking to order!
Also if you have trouble inserting it, a water based lubricant helps!
JDsquared TV Me too. I store it in hydrogen peroxide to sanitize it though.
Tampons made me so dry also! Gah I hated the feeling of pulling them out! Apparently the fullness of tampons is not just from the blood but because of the moisture in your vajay jay. I personally have been using the Diva cup for 1 year and will never go back my period is so much more bearable now! I recommend once you are more comfortable to change it in the shower, I keep my sanatising wash in the shower squat and take it out clean and put it back in after, saves time and also because I leave it in for at least 8 hours, it means I don’t have to change it at work or when I’m out :) x

idk why i was so interested in this video but im sooo glad i watched it
Help homeless and environment, end tampon tax !
TMI:
I have not had any excess discharge since changing to the cup and stopped using soap "down there".
Can I just say your skin the next morning after you just woke up... looked AMAZING 😍
“The nice kitty” 😂😂👏🏼
I love my cup it’s amazing so much better than tampons!! Well done Shannon for making this video. You can just use hand soap to wash your cup and sanitize in boiling water. You can also use a water based lube to help putting the cup in. Also if you can feel the stem sticking out you can cut it off and gently file it with a nail file. Hope this helps x
Omg these things scare me 🤭🤭 But I can see why they are a thing. Thanks for sharing your experience ❤️❤️
It's all in the mind set, I was scared too ! You'll be proud after you're into it :)
They look scary but they are amazing to use. It's not as messy as I thought it would be.
There is definitely a learning curve, and no room for being precious about bodily fluid, but you'll get the hang of it after a cycle or two.
Me too..they look huge
I am definitely considering getting one. My only worry is that I’ve never used tampons before so I’m not accustomed to the feeling of something like the menstrual cup or tampon but I really want to order one because I’m such a light bleeder I feel like it’s a waste anyway 😂 thank you for this, it’s so wonderful to not only see someone WILLINGLY talking about periods but normalising different symptoms ❤️
Abigail Flux once it’s in, you don’t feel them.
I bought my little sister one, shes 11. she can handle it better than tampons. She doesnt have to change during school.🙃
I’m have a light flow and have never had tampons either. Yea there is a learning curve but it’s really easy to use once you get the hang of it
When in the shower I would recommend to know your body
Abigail Flux I hate tampons and hardly ever used them.. just for swimming... and I love the menstrual cups. Will never go back.
I’ve been curious about it for the last couple years and after seeing so many comments saying how good they are etc, imma have to do it 🤭🤷🏽♀️
Love this makeup look! Love the idea of these, being reusable and using less plastic is great! Love you Shan xoxox 💜💜
Menstrual cups are life changing ! You just have to find the right one for you . Takes a bit of practice but so worth it !
I started using my moon cup about 18 months again and i am NEVER going back, literally blew my mind how much I loved it compared to tampons! Plus better for the environment and my wallet which is a bonus
love this so much! xo beauty should totally create a menstrual cup called “the nice kitty!”😂❤️👌
mandykate 90 YES to this!!!! 👌❤️
Kasia xoxo cute right?🙂 she could put a tiny little pink kitty on the packaging! Lol maybe that’s too far but it would be cute😂
Ps. I also barely get any cramps with the cup. I got really bad cramps with tampons and pads.
Yes! Took me a few cycles too to figure it out but I'm glad I stuck it out! I remember taking a quiz too which helped determine the most suitable brand/cup shape for you but I can't remember where I found it. If someone could post the link it would be extremely helpful for curious people!
@@michhmushh The one I took was this one!: putacupinit.com/quiz/
Yes I think that's the same one I took! So helpful.
Love my fleurcup!
THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS REVIEW!!!! I have wanted to try but have been too scared. I appreciate that you were willing to risk embarrassment to share this info with us!!!
I understand. On my second day i bleed more than regular people would on their entire period. I have to change 4-6 times
Chanty Ledesma Me too! I use pads and i use in the day those ultra night ones which they say its supposed to stay for 8hours..they last 3-4 hours for me so... :/
Chanty Ledesma Try to use a bigger one. They come in different sizes. I switched up mine. Now I change it less on „bad“ days.
I use a super tampon and change out HOURLY my first day! It’s horrible
I use overnight pads paired with ultra tampons and go through both within 1.5 hours. It is misery. The cup gives me a break...I can go 6 hours before a change.
Heather Williams Buell really? that is so interesting, it looks so small
"The ocean is not for tampons, is for turtles"... Love it❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️😂😂😂😂😂
