I agree with the results actually, sure, I didn't play the Master System version of Double Dragon back in the early 90's (as I was born in '91) and only played the NES version, but I can actually apreciate other versions of the same title no matter the console (yeah, I was kind of a Nintendo fanboy those days but ended that fanboy attitude around 96 when I got the chance of play with a Sega Genesis, I never regret leaving that fanboy side and become fully neutral in the console wars stuff and just apreciate the games as I was supposed to do from the very start).

No chance. The nes version of the music is iconic. I'd say outside of Brazil no one even knows the SMS version and the ntsc SMS didnt even play FM sound back in the day even if it was on the cart.
The FM music should have at least been mentioned but it's a weak point since hardly anybody used it and the FM chip is only great at music and usually kind of sucks at sound effects.
I got Sega Double Dragon FREE in Christmas 1988, for purchasing the Sega Master System. However, I had to wait 3 months for the game to come in the mail, just in time for my birthday.
I still need to play the Sega Master system version. I completely understand where the SMS version would get the win, but I think I'd end up still liking the NES one better, just because of how much time I've put into it over the years. Great video guys!

Finally caught up! I gotta say, this series binge was a load of fun. Its been great seeing all these old school games during this journey. Some of the brought back memories, both good and bad. Also the humor and most of the effects were really good. I don't think I've ever heard of the Sega Master System Port of "Double Dragon" before, let alone seeing it. As much as love the NES game, despite its difficulty, the SMS game looks surprisingly good, and even though I've barely seen the original Arcade game aside from those stills, its amazing to see how more faithful the SMS port is to the Arcade version, kinda makes me wonder what went wrong with developing the NES port. Anyway had a blast with binge watch, wishing Pat a speedy recovery from the dreaded "Covid-19", A very Happy Birthday to Dan, and looking forward to more episodes.

The NES port wins in the sound department, but the Master System sounds amazing with the FM chip! I really wish FM mods to the Master System are easier to attain outside of an emulator, because that was truly the best!
I have SMS Double Dragon. I found an SMS in a Portuguese junk shop for 8 dollars, and my city has a major retro game retail market. The cords cost more than the SMS.
RetroPCGamer RE2 GC vs DC could work but N64 vs DC is too big a gap I think, DC would win easily against N64. Also, I don’t think there’s enough of a difference really, they’re super similar.
I just can't with the Sega game play. It's too "not Double Dragon". Hit stun is all wrong. Enemies don't fall when they should. Uppercut and roundhouse come out due to button speed instead of striking a stunned enemy. Enemies don't even go into a stunned animation. It feels all wrong.
Just wanted to say how much I love the channel. I started watching the day before Greg left and it really bummed me out hearing the news. I thought it was just my luck that I would stumble upon something great and then it end the very next day... Happy to see that wasn’t the case and the channel is still going strong 💪 love you guys and thank you for helping us all make it through 2020 a little easier.

My level of critic was. Is it fun. I got a Genesis when I was 8 and PC at 10. I didn't play a NES again until I brought one with Double Dragon when I was 17 (2002). Just so my brother and I could experience some nostalgia.
I definitely call BS on the decision for graphics. The flicker definitely ruins it. It doesn't matter if the SMS game "looks" better, when you literally can't SEE it.

Or maybe a Rainbow Islands episode or Bubble Bobble? There's so many games that are different that could make good match ups. You just pretty much gotta get a Master Everdrive if you wanna easily have access to all the Japanese and PAL games. I remember all those years ago I suggested Ninja Gaiden and you guys delivered!

You can put the FM module in the western version
You can also use a Powerbase Mini FM adapter to play Double Dragon on a Megadrive/Genesis.

I do love the double Dragon series including different versions but my top favorite would have to be double Dragon neon.
