    Also, sometimes store bought tuar dal is stale. I always buy tuar dal which is greased with I believe castor oil. This will preserve daal for very long time. Daal will not go stale. So before you pressure cook, you must wash daal at least 3-4 times with your hand. I always buy Madhi -Vasad toor daal. This daal is smaller than other daal, but has excellent flavor that you will not taste in other brand.

    Instead of mixing daal with raw masala the tadka has to be made first and then should be added . 8 to 10 whistel was too much i guess 3-4 is max i think . The gujarti daal is incomplete withput tamrind and hing

    Awesome recipe. Being Gujju, I would love to add curry leaves in tadka. Also, I will add green chili grated. Generally, in any gujju’s home, you will find minced ginger-chili mixture in refrigerator.

    • @Bhavnaskitchen
      @Bhavnaskitchen  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      We do add curry leaves in Kadhi but not daal where I grew up or else it is Sambhar... as per my great grandma and even in the wedding, the cook don’t add curry leaves but we all have our version as per our own liking and that’s the beauty of nature.

    • @GoHealthy78
      @GoHealthy78 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, I have always seen people adding curry leaves both in daal and kadhi. But, again as you said, every region has their own style. But, I strongly believe that adding curry leaves would definitely enhance the flavor. I would strongly recommend the viewers to try different versions though.

    Why do you soak tur/tuvar dal ? Does it make a difference ? I have been cooking exactly the same recipe minus the jaggery for years. Never soaked the dal. And four whistles is more than enough. Is it the nature of the dal you use in US ?
