I'm an Italian man who likes very much indian food, but I had a few opportunity to eat it in Indian restaurants pretty much away from my little town. Then I found this video and I followed the recipe delivered by Mrs Prema and...miracolously I was able to eat my hown home-made Indian Dah (very testy indeed!!!) Thank you very much Mrs Prema (such a sweet lady) for your clear and lovely advices. In the meanwhile I've also learned how to cook Tikka Masala Chicken , and it was as well a success!
I wish there was a whole youtube channel of this Mom teaching Indian cooking. She gives wonderful instructions. I have looked at a lot of other you tubes for dal and she has the best one.

Auntie, good morning. Greetings from Trinidad (in the Caribbean). It was such a pleasure to stumble upon this video as I was searching for a dhaal recipe. My 90 year old grandmother passed away recently and it brought me such joy to watch you cooking. It was like being back in the kitchen with my Gran as she passed on her cooking secrets to me. May God bless you and grant you a long, wonderful life. ❤
You are so lucky to have your mom! I lost my mother 20 years ago, she was only 49. My sister and I miss her very much in the kitchen. But I have all my ingredients out for Daal and it's the first time I am making it. I am so glad to find this video. So calming and comforting (both your mama and the daal)! I am going to visit my daughter this spring and this is a recipe I will make with her! She will be so excited about it! That's a 6
Any chance of more recipes? I am a beginner and searched TH-cam, but this is the best video on how to make red lentil daal. I have made it several times now. This recipe works every time. I know there are plenty of TH-camrs, but this lady's explanation is perfect for beginners. Most cooks, will say do step A, then do step B and then step C, but her explanation is much more suited to beginners, because she explains what is happening to the food. She also explains what do look out for before moving to the next step. She is imparting her experience as a cook and telling us what signs to look for. A rare quality. I always think back to this lady when making this red lentil daal recipe. I do revert back to this video to refresh my memory! Please do thank this lady!. I am grateful to her for imparting her knowledge!. A true gem!

This recipe is perfect. I’m a novice in the Indian cooking arena and this Dahl came out fabulous. Love grandma’s cooking and teaching techniques. She’s awesome.
We made this last night as part of a meatless week and all loved it. Prema's unruffled, knowledgeable teaching is such a pleasure. I added 2 tomatoes from a can as they cook in easily and are so tasty, a boon for us northerly cooks. My 850W microwave cooked a Pyrex bowl of rinsed basmati rice in 9 mins, the water being 3/4in. above the rice to start. It fluffed up well, and the home-made ghee was a doddle too (search 'ghee' on YT). A super-tasty veggie meal! Thanks, ladies.
Prema has a vibration high in life! I love her interaction and narration of the dish. I can vision her in the kitchen cooking for the family with great ease grown from years of practice of perfection and intention of good filling food. Please extend my love to her!
I was in tears - your Mum reminds me of mine who passed away 2 years ago! God bless you both. I miss mine terribly- she had the same quiet untiring sweet organized style of teaching yet could show you how to do summin 10 ways in a flash! Love your mum! Good health n long healthy life!
Amongst some of the most beautiful cookery presentations I have seen on TH-cam. Please Prema, can we have some more? The love and passion truly does shine through.
Thank you so much Aunty. My Mama passed away last year and i miss cooking with her. She always finished daal with tadka and i make it this way and remember her with love.
I deeply appreciate seeing how this is made for Indian Home Cooking. I'm a newcomer to making Indian Dahl. I like this simple approach to the basic product. I am having this everyday, though one notable difference is that I add cooked hull-less barley. I think Basmati Rice tastes better with it, but have opted for the barley, most days. Another twist is to add steamed chopped Escarole to servings. Sometimes, I will cook an egg in the hot soup before serving it. All in all the Dahl just pairs so well with Onion, garlic, a hot pepper and the cumin seed. Love the flavors! Thank you
@@mysteriousblast2435 It can be perceived as mushy. Red Lentils cook very quickly, under 10 minutes for the "petite split red lentils". The cultivar Red Chief is a larger split red lentil and breaks down in about 20 minutes. Cooking either too long (beyond recommended times) will make them mushier. Depends on how you like them, or even if you like lentils that break down. After about 7 min w petite red lentils i use an immersion blender to break them down further. I like to drink this soup like a cup of coffee.
