I learned to cook from your recipe videos when I moved out of my parents home. I'm now in my final year of university and I'm grateful to have a eaten delicious and nutritious food throughout my time as a student! Many thanks to you!
I regret not finding this channel sooner in my life! I made this tonight and it was thoroughly enjoyed by the whole family! And so unbelievably simple and quick to make. A new favourite in our home. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and recipes, Chetna. I'm excited to try more!
I saw this video just this morning and ran out to get the ingredients . I just made it for lunch and it’s soooo good!! It’s very hot where I am but it was exactly what I needed
Thank you so much Chetna and family. I bought a stovetop pressure cooker that you show on your channel or a close substitute. I am so in love with Chetna's recipes and Indian food and general. I love and adore that you share so many great recipes. Love you.
I wasn't sure about this recipe; it looked too simple. Made as directed today, except for cutting back on the quantity of oil & salt and using low fat coconut milk. WOW! It is amazing!!! I had a difficult time finding chili oil in Vancouver, but finally found some mild chili oil with crispy garlic @ Granville Island. The little hit of crispy garlic takes this dish to another level. This will definitely be on rotation for me, especially when short on time & immagination. Had it today for lunch; will have it again tonight for dinner with a side of greens & naan. Thank you Chetna for an awesome recipe!
You’re right. Its delicious. I had some kale and zucchini that needed to be used up so I added them to the dal half way through cooking time. Thank you for another great quick healthy recipe.
Just found your channel and am looking forward to making your dal recipe. I have this last year tried pre packaged dal which I like. I'm sure your recipe will be so much better! I had no idea how quick and easy it is to make. I like the thick and warming consistency, and the wonderful flavors are so satisfying. Thank you!
Just made this. Truly simple! Delicious too - I lived the chile oil trick at the end. I kept wanting to add fennel seeds & a bit of black pepper to the dal, but restrained myself this first time. Perhaps next time, if you approve.
I love all your recipes. I have learnt to make so many of your dishes. this is on my menu for tomorrow evening 😋. I made one of your chicken recipes a while back and my son thought I'd ordered it from the local takeaway. 😉 it was absolutely delicious 😋 x ❤️
Amazing recipe! Made it it tonight and wow. Amazing. For me? Two large tablespoons of the chilli paste. Thank you. Not just for this but for everything you do 😁
This is similar to a dal I’ve made in the past but it didn’t have coconut milk or the leek! Definitely will be an upgrade to do it according to this video 🎉😊
Made this twice now. Quite simple and delicious. First time it was too salty for me, I’d suggest using half the salt suggested in the lentils as you can always add more later.
I've got your chicken, lentil and fresh turmeric, though I'm using ground turmeric, from your recipe book, cooking as I'm watching this. I haven't tried it before but it smells delicious. I've just eaten some and it is delicious I'll definitely be making it again
Thank you so much for another wonderful recipe. Can’t wait to make this. Does it matter too much if you don’t have ghee? (Could you use butter instead?) Thank you.
I've never cooked lentils in coconut milk - sounds and looks delicious, and I will surely try that! Not sure about the chili oil, though....what's in it and how to make it? Just chilies marinating in oil? It looks like the chinese kind with lots of other stuff in it too...🤔
Hi Chetna that looks delicious 😁😋 I would definitely give that a try, I live in Lincoln within the UK 😁 we have coconut milk at home so I will definitely cook this 😁😋 thank you so much for sharing 😁❤️
Cool now here in Central coastal Florida. I know this dal recipe and have fresh greens in the garden. That’s our version of the simple dal. I also know a simple dal which is called Cheater’s Dal. Besan flour (chic pea ).
Is the coconut a very stron flavor?,,, I ask bc I don’t like coconut very much,,, yet I haven’t minded it if added to certain recipees,,, yet if it’s a strong flavor I probably wouldn’t care for it,, would I be able to make this WITHOUT the coconut milk?
Chetna?,,, please advise as to what I can replace the coconut milk with,,,PLEASE,, I feel silly for even having to ask,,, but I can’t have anything coconut,,,😔😊, andddd I’m a new cook,, so I don’t like to assume anything! Lol lol lol

Leek add so much flavour
If I hadn't just started my risotto I would have made this for my supper.

ludicrously simple - I think even I could manage that.
Thank you so much for another wonderful recipe. Can’t wait to make this. Does it matter too much if you don’t have ghee? (Could you use butter instead?) Thank you.
yes yes or even just use oil
I've never cooked lentils in coconut milk - sounds and looks delicious, and I will surely try that! Not sure about the chili oil, though....what's in it and how to make it? Just chilies marinating in oil? It looks like the chinese kind with lots of other stuff in it too...🤔
Yes its just shop bought chilli oil
Looks delicious!
Any particular chili oil? I’m used to Thai versions, but that one looked different
I didn’t have a leek and chopped up a courgette instead and it was just as delicious. The crispy chilli oil was a tasty addition.
I am an Australian living in Russia - still snowing and raining - but find your food …for me…can be eaten any season
Thanks Erica.
What do you do in ruzzia? They are neo nazi. What Australian could possibly do in this terroristic country?
@@katarinka702 Just a reminder this is not the place for politics. It is a food channel!

Chetna, do you make your own chili oil?... btw I'm going to make this. I'm on Vancouver island and though we have no snow, it's cold here today.
No I dont make my own chilli oil and keep trying different brands
Ps your chickpea recipes are the best x
Another great recipe!!
I’m 25 minutes in and the dhall has still a bite to it? I’m using chains dhall?
Thanks
These lentils cook in 12-15 minutes but if you are using any other variety it will take longer
I NEED to make this!!!❤❤❤❤❤
So tasty and yummy
so so good
Yum!
Thanks
Hi do you have a video on how to make chili oil on our channel? I really enjoy your recipes.Thank you 🥰
Will upload soon
Dear Chetna this is a gratis receipe - we had it with Naan bread and the bowl was polished clean...
Which brand of chilli oil you buy Chetna?
I buy many brands, always try a new one once the jar is finished
Which one is the best one you can recommend?
Can I use any chilli oil? X
Yes you can!
what can you use instead of the chillie oil please?
Can I use more whole spices in the dal?
What is a good substitute for chili oil?
If you list the ingredients been dying to try this one
I mention them in the video!
Excellent.... have half a can of coconut milk to use up.
Yessssss
Made last night..... absolutely delish! Will definitely be going on meal rotation here.
Just bought 30 minute Indian so I feel less guilt making your food. This looks like a great addition to my dal armory BTW.
Lol...in the kitchen right now making your dal, with carrots and courgettes. Will add this one to the rotation as well 😁
Yeah, that one is lovely too

Can it be a bit thicker ? I'm not keen on the soup consistency x
👏👏👏👍😘

Please list all the ingredients needed! It makes it easier to have everything ready before starting the cooking.
Watch the video and write it down - don’t be so lazy ! 😊
it will be on my website soon or you could check out my cook books for written recipes

I don’t understand, you didn’t put in any red chilli powder?
I use toor dal anytime a recipe calls for red lentils
both taste different and cooking time is different too
@@FoodwithChetna - I followed your recipe exactly and it IS delicious and so quick to make. You have convinced me to use red lentils 🙂
