Introductory arpeggio: open 5ths with Neapolitan 6th chord on the 5th. Resolves to dominant 7th half cadence 3rd inversion, with bass on the 3rd. 4 note descending scale anacrusis motif starting on the tonic down to the 4th. Sequence: Melody starts on the 5th of the tonic. Improvisatory and freestyle. irregular phrasing. Flowing rhythms and phrases with few clear sections. Hypermeter. Climatic suspensions. Mostly narrow tonal range in the melody except for climatic up and down glissando (with "Sakura Sakura" scale in left hand). Wide up and down tonal range in melody reappears near the ending, but slower. Lots of rubato. Overall, this is the opposite of today's popular music sound, but diatonic harmony and mostly homophonic "pianistic" texture with a clear melodic part is still familiar and relatable to the average person today. Published 1846, this nocturne is experimental and was "not held in high regard" at the time.
