Kia is really making some great vehicles. Clean design, great performance and specs, handling, tech and warranty - the complete package. Really impressive stuff.
I bought this car new 2 months ago and I absolutely adore it! Mine is a non plug-in hybrid and I wouldn't have anything else! I get 53 miles to the gallon and I dig the hell out of it! It's all of the car I wanted and it's gorgeous. I love that color of blue that I got it's so sexy. I can pick it out of a crowd in a mile. Here's the kicker, I bought the new Kia ev6 before that! What a mistake! I traded that thing in before it had 600 miles! There is absolutely insufficient infrastructure for charging electric cars on the road. You will not use anything slower than a DC plus fast charge and they are few and far between. Here's how few and farther between they are, where I live in eastern North Carolina interstate 95 runs straight north to south. There are count them 3 DC plus charging stations in all of the capital of Raleigh. There are only three on the entire route along i-95. There are zero east of i-95 in all of North Carolina and all of South Carolina and much of Georgia and much of Virginia. You will not sit and wait for anything less than a DC plus charge. Takes too long. You'll be cussing any all-electric vehicle that you get right now I promise you that! And by the way upgrading your home service to put in a plug is around $1,000, $500 for the plug from the car to the outlet and 500 bucks to have an electrician run a circuit from your panel to your plugin.
Correct. I’m used to that with an older Toyota, in which there is lane departure warning (which can be switched on or off with a physical button). With that in use, I now often use the indicators just to silence it (even when it’s too late to be of any use), whereas years ago I did not always do that - e.g. on multi lane roads when overtaking. Incidentally, the comment about regenerative braking is partially correct - but you don’t get all the energy back. An extra half a tonne to start from rest every time you stop is not the best idea.
Hyundai and Kia are really stepping up....currently are the best value for money brands (especially with that sweet warranty)...from my point of view at least.
Pre-ordered the level 2 over a month ago now and finally got to test drive one over the weekend and it was a great drive, however the technology inside was disappointing. The infotainment system is older and the screen just doesn't look as nice compared to the higher specs because it's not long one long piece of glass but plastic surrounding the screens. Also the place where you have the buttons for heated and ventilated seats are just left blank but the square is still there, so you'll always feel like you're missing features when it's so in your face like that. Decided to upgrade to the level 3. Means I'll get a month or two later but for a car I'm planning to keep for the long haul, I think I'll be much happier! I do wish I could get the level 4, but that's just too unaffordable for me and the extras you get above the level 3 didn't make it worth it imo
Mate I had a hybrid version 2017 model it's the best of both on average I got 70mpg and of course it wasnt a hot hatch but then again it's not designed for speed. I am sure that the new niro will be more refined than the older one.

I love the design of this new Kia Niro! The tyres of this Kia Niro reminds me the tyres of the Tesla Cybertruck! This Kia Niro looks so cool and futuristic!
I have the 22 plate older version Niro. Would consider swapping it but wanted to know if the newer one has the same annoying things as the older one. 1. The seat bell sign is so sensitive, if someone even touches the rear seats it just starts screaming to put seat bell on even though no one is sitting on that one. 2. The side passenger seat belts it self when used and then the passenger takes it off the seat belt do not go completely back to its original position therefore it keeps scraping and banging against the interior which is really annoying. 3. The lane assist is really annoying as you mentioned I have it off all the time.
As Korean I’m getting proud how they improved themselves as time goes by. 10 years ago, Kia was nothing more than shitty car that Top Gear would like to do whatever they want and now other British says you can shortlist it😂
Hi Mat, the lane departure is a pest and should be like a Tesla which is OFF as default and you turn on when you need it. Sadly Kia has it the other way around. However, you can easily turn it off by holding the button on the steering wheel with a lane and steering wheel symbol for 3 seconds. No need to faff with the screen and menu. It's a short cut to turning it off 👍.
Of cause, level 1 doesn't because its so subtle, after doing 13k miles in a year I love our E-Niro, 0.01p per mile in this climate is unreal, we luckily changed our tariff to go electric 35 EDF in May last year so I'm tied in till August next year
I have an e-soul at work, it also has 204hp and a range of about 450km, the kia does a great job and it’s one great car to drive. And I have to say that I like the steering wheel on the e-soul much more than this one on the niro.
That gray part looks like owner had an accident and couldn't find the part as original colour. Cheap fake leather is rebranded as "vegan friendly". But still is a considerable car.

is the "relaxation seat" only on the passenger side? In the US I think we have that on the driver side (which is the UK passenger side). I wonder if Kia just skimped and only made one of the seats do that
Just a thought I do think there is a hot key button that you can mate to a function of your choice. Maybe the lane assist turn off could be set up that way. It is very annoying from experience that you have to do that every time
My Niro EV 4 is 11 days old and I’m already having issues. The car often (3 times so far) refuses to move into gear. It seem it’s immobilised! I turn the car off and lock it then go back a few minutes later and it will start ok. Not good for a car that cost 43k

Maybe next month.
@6:40 … about that lane departure system. There’s a button on the steering wheel to turn that off with one press. Can’t have looked very hard if you couldn’t find it!
Mat in this video: I really like this grill effect there!
Mat in the previous video: Fake grills are one of the worst trends in the car industry!
The KIA NIRO looked like a tad underpowered.
Maybe it's because on an EV it's obvious that it's just for style, as it's often glossy and opaque and no EV needs a big grille (if I'm not mistaken), while fake grilles on petrol cars just make them seem like they're tryting to trick people into believing they're sporty cars? idk, im just guessing
Hi Matt given what’s happening with inflation & cost of fuel can you PLEASE do MORE videos of most fuel efficient cars AND electric cars with longest range. This is more important than ever now.
lane departure warning is litteraly on the steering wheel. Hold it for a few seconds to turn it off. (press it if you want to turn on lane keeping assist aswell)
Hi Hakon. 🙏
To turn off the lane departure warning just press and hold the lane keep assist button located on the steering wheel, it looks like a steering wheel with two lines next to it
Kia is really making some great vehicles. Clean design, great performance and specs, handling, tech and warranty - the complete package. Really impressive stuff.
But aren’t they getting broken into every 7 seconds? Class action lawsuits, Kia Boys, etc
Very nice and useful car! My only guestion is what happens to the charging point in the front after small crashes in the town.
How many crashes do you have?

Thanks Matt, was waiting for a review from you on this car.
In the US that is. I literally have a charging point outside my condo here in Amsterdam. Hopefully you will get to that point soon!
In Europe we have like hundreds near and within the city,so its better EV
@@zanafer you are so right sir! That would truly be the turning point!
Try signalling when you want to change lanes. This should overide the lane keeping assist while you do the lane change.
There is much more about a car than it's price and warranty. But that seems to be the only thing great about these cars
@@samirav1137 even without warranty, I would pick them equally to Honda and such. I prefer this over the HRV

I do not get what is up with these KIA headrests ??? They are uncomfy and a bad design imho.
U got scammed, that is not the latest model

I really like the look of this inside and out, but I wouldn't change my Kona Electric for one. Better range, much quicker and better equipped.
They missed a trick not improving the battery size/range on the new Niro.
Battery size adds more cost and weight. Its a fine line having a longer range and never using it is very costly.
@@chrishart8548 I would happily pay for a longer range. My Kona officially does 300 miles and I've managed that several times. Never understood why the Niro had a much smaller range desire having the same drivetrain (although the Kona has a lot more torque despite having the same output as the Niro)
i own the old shape eniro for around 3 months now would i add an extra 10% to buy this one no i would not

Mat you and Yianni are my favourite car reviewers ever and I love you both so much!
😂😂 Yianni is NOT a car reviewer. Come on now.

One question Mat. Does regenerative braking inform other drivers via braking lights? If not, this could be pretty dangerous.
Of course 🤦🏻♂️
Deceleration must be visible
Regen braking is braking so it lights up your brake lights.
Brake lights in any car - EV or not - must legally light up at a certain g of deceleration.
Of cause, level 1 doesn't because its so subtle, after doing 13k miles in a year I love our E-Niro, 0.01p per mile in this climate is unreal, we luckily changed our tariff to go electric 35 EDF in May last year so I'm tied in till August next year

@@GriffDawg94 why? If 80% range will take you 2 hours at 70mph then,.... That's fine. And remember, most rapid charging doesn't need to go to even 80% because all it needs is to get you home. You have a charger at home. So maybe you need 50 miles more - that's 10 minutes on a rapid.

Just priced on Kia website. Full EV with the Harman kardon sound £42k. My Audi Q4 sportbk with Sonos, waiting on order since Aug 21!!!!! £45k.
