      I’ve put down Java gel on my stairs and am doing segments at a time to work around the flow of traffic in the house (kids/dogs). I wanted to use your traffic anti slip but am concerned about the two part mixture. Is there a way to measure parts at a time as I finish each segment or should i use a different (mega one?) for the first two coats and then anti slip for the final third coat and do all at once, once i have all my segments completed? Any other recommendation?

      @@HungrySpencer12 Hi Kara! That's a great question, and it's good to be thinking through the best way to apply without wasting the product. I'd recommend getting in touch with Bona, their hotline is 1-800-872-5515. They will have more info about what product would work best with Java Gel and guidelines for how to apply it.

      I've got old parquet that I has a very yellowed tone that I hate. I sanded it down and like the very raw lighter look. How much will Mega yellow the wood? I was thinking two coats of Mega, finished with two coats of Traffic HD. I've got two big dogs and a lot of foot traffic. Should I opt for Matte over Satin?

    • @rwsupplydesign
      @rwsupplydesign  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kylegibson8367 Hi Kyle! To keep the natural look and protect from scratches, I'd highly recommend using a sealer before applying the finish. The sealer will do two important things: help you keep that light color and keep the finish from sinking into the wood.
      Bona has several sealers - NaturalSeal is probably the way to go. But I will also add, the yellowing will depend on the species of the floor. It's a natural product, and every species has different reactions to light. Which is a good thing - it's kind of like a patina on worn-in leather.
      We also have a video about Bona Sealers, each one is designed for certain uses: th-cam.com/video/tRjVyg09300/w-d-xo.html
      Also, you mentioned that you're looking for a durable finish that will protect against pets and foot traffic. Foregoing the sealer may cause the finish to not perform as well. Sealers are designed to form a barrier between the wood and the finish. If you do just a finish, it could sink into the wood, instead of staying on top of the wood.
      So overall, a seal coat will keep the color what you want and protect your wood floor from scratches. Plus, you may save some money coating with a layer of sealer, versus doing multiple layers of finish. The recommendation is to do one seal coat, then two coats of finish over that.

    I'm planning to use the classic sealer with mega one matte finish, would you recommend sanding between sealer and 1st coat of finish or between 1st and 2nd coat of finish? I've heard both but leaning towards the latter because of potential sanding through seal coat, thnx

    • @rwsupplydesign
      @rwsupplydesign  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The best success we've seen is putting the sealer down, vacuuming once it's dry, applying the first coat of finish, buff it smooth, then final coat. So to your point - you could buff through that seal coat if you do that first. Additionally, you don't want to buff too much off that first coat. Your goal is just to clean it up, otherwise you may take off too much finish. We explain it a bit more in our video here: th-cam.com/video/6tG8I1EhjRM/w-d-xo.html

    I just had my hardwood floors sanded and refinished. I believe my dogs pads on her feet have “scuffed” the floor as I can see “slide” marks that look like as she was trying to stop her foot pads scuffed the floors. It’s not toe nail scratches - I’m devastated and want to fix. Will applying Bona Traffic HD cover these ? If so, how long does it take to dry so this does not happen again?

    • @rwsupplydesign
      @rwsupplydesign  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry to hear that! Frustrating to have a big investment scratched so quickly. I'd recommend having your installer or another one come to look at the damage. You may be able to get by with a cleaning or a recoat (and Traffic HD may be a good option). They will be able to recommend the best product for your situation to remove the current marks and prevent future ones.

    I have just the stairs to do after immense hard work of stripping the paint. i don't plan to stain leaving it natural pine,. I've gotten Traffic hd anti slip for it.. must i have a seal under it, or could i get away with 3 coats of HD since I would have a lot of it leftover as i only have the stairs to do? thanks

    • @rwsupplydesign

      If you'd like to keep that raw look, a sealer is a good idea! The sealer will help you keep that natural color and also provide a great foundation for the finish. If you just apply the finish, it can soak in, making that coat virtually useless. The sealer is designed to seal the floor, and is less expensive than finish.
      We have a video that covers more info about why and how to use a sealer: th-cam.com/video/6tG8I1EhjRM/w-d-xo.html

Should I have one bona naturalseal and 2 of traffic hd or have just 3 coats of traffic hd ? Thank you

    Very few of my clients have the ability to wait 72 hours after a refinish. This is the main reason the refinishers in my area stay away from Bona. It's really a shame because the product is excellent to work with. We use everything Bona except the finish. Is that 72 hours set in stone? With caution could we reduce that wait time? Thank you for the informative video.

    Can I use Bona Mega One directly onto unsealed white pine or would it be strongly recommended that I do some sort of a seal coat first?

    • @rwsupplydesign
      @rwsupplydesign  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a good question! A seal coat is usually a good idea, as it provides the best base for the finish and it can also help you keep that beautiful natural pine color. There's 5 Bona sealers to choose from and they also have ones designed for natural looks. We talk through these options on our video here: th-cam.com/video/tRjVyg09300/w-d-xo.html

  • @cherylsim7125

    I'm not planning to stain my pine stairs as i am wanting the natural look. do i need a sealer or could i just put on 2 coats of Traffic Hd anti slip?

    • @rwsupplydesign
      @rwsupplydesign  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question! Sealers are not necessarily required (you can put polyurethane down on stain), but do provide a lot of benefits. They generally seal the wood and dry without soaking in as much as a polyurethane which results in more build and protection with the finish system. Sealers can also help the finish to apply more evenly, help prevent white lines, and help prevent tannin pull and other color unevenness.
      It is good insurance against a host of potential problems. Also, Bona has a sealer designed to keep that natural raw look. We cover all of their sealers in this video: th-cam.com/video/tRjVyg09300/w-d-xo.html

    I used the Bona Oil based sealer but didn't like color. Contractor stopped working then sanded the floor the next day.. the following day applied Bona natural sealer with mega one . The oil sealer is seeping back through. How can I get rid of the oil sealer?

    • @rwsupplydesign
      @rwsupplydesign  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there! Sorry to hear that the color isn't what you were expecting. It seems like the contractor would have sanded it enough to get the original sealer off. Even so, if you don't like the color, that can be hard to live with. For this type of situation, the best solution is to sand it again and refinish.

      That's a great question! Bona's waterbased finishes (including Mega, Mega One, and Traffic HD) are low VOC and GreenGuard certified. The main concern with breathing is when the finish is wet and being applied. Once dried, they're safe for your family!
