Sharing all things Cunk - a fictional character from Charlie Brooker's Weekly Wipe, Cunk on Britain, Cunk on Shakespeare and Cunk on Earth - Portrayed by the incredible Diane Morgan.
He's definitely had people ask him sillier questions than Philomena. He's unphased. He's legendary.
he is the professor of bolocksology
Do you mean unfazed? Or his he wibbling in and out of phase on the telly?
he's enjoying it throughout
Professor Ronald Hutton handles Philomena like a pro. He wasn't even phased by her questions. He must be a really great professor
When I think of the super smart college professor, this man is exactly who comes to mind. The clothes, the hair, the face, the voice - he's the total package
Speaking as an instructor in higher institutions of learning from community college to grad courses, we learn not to be too fazed by ignorance. However, students are not willfully ignorant!
He is probably on the spectrum ❤
@@karencampbell2410way to insult someone
@@karencampbell2410 What evidence do you have for that claim?
He has that perfect nerd energy and enthusiasm for everything he's talking about and obviously completely understood the humour right from the gecko.
Gecko?
@@criticalcommenter yeah it's rare to see someone who does what they do just out of pure passion these days. You know what they say, it's a doggy dog world.
@@hamishfox too easily taken for granite these days.
Don't have anything to add, just wanted to say I'm loving this interaction. Have a good one ✌️
Bit of a damp squid
I love how he doesn't miss a beat and blandly replies: "No, the Stuarts are an astonishingly accident-prone family".
He is a world renowned scholar on paganism, witchcraft and magic. He must have heard every silly question under the sun, met niche groups and cults and has been humbled along the way. Philomena was a walk in the park for him 🤣
Hutton has probably politely handled even weirder questions asked with genuine seriousness over breakfast while hungover, after a summer solstice party.
triumph of the moon proves your theories
Then surely he must be a wizard?
He's my hero. But she's a beautifully judged character. Loved the programme.
1:30 the way that he'd maintained eye contact the entire time he was recounting all of the deaths of the previous five james-es is just ✨✨
If it weren't for the esteemed professor Ronald Hutton, I would never have learned that rocks are more jaggedy.
"Like Simon Cowell, when he brought together... One Direction"
-
"Yes, except it lasted a bit longer"
That was such a fun and shady comeback :D
He also doesn't like any of them particularly lol
@@CesarJoel94 How do you know that?
@@HOTD108_ she then asks him who's his favorite member of one direction and he says I don't have one
This guy looks exactly like the company mechanic at the place I work. He's the nicest guy in the world and I once saw him pick up a worm from the middle of the road, then put it safely in the grass and he smiled at me and said "I like animals"
Awwwww that’s fucking sweeeeet
“You can’t (look at the sun), that’s probably why you got glasses!”

@@freekingfreaking246 yeah
Honestly he seems so chill, I bet he laughed when she said that
Brilliant Stuff Philomena, Professor,
"That's the Great Thing about History"
"It Puts Everything into Perspective"
I love it when she says something that comes across as inane, and the expert in question takes it seriously and turns it into a good insight.
@@angelicasmodel
I Checked the Definition of "inane" because I Knew Philomena would.
But Yes good insight.

His last reply to her has got to be one of the best responses out of all the interviews phillamena has done
Just two intelligent people having a quality conversation.
He's a national treasure for sure
I love that her interviews are characterized as "versus" affairs
Probably inspired by right wing contrarians, where every conversation is a battle
He is The Best Teacher alive today hands down he completely handles Cunk like a school child it's so great I love it
What a wise and erudite man; the personification of a gentleman. I'm also obsessed with this comedic character Philomena Cunk - pure genius.
They both mastered this interaction. Master class!
Dr. Hutton is the essence of a teacher and kind soul. Every moment is also comedy gold from Diane Morgan.
Ronald Hutton's lectures are genuinely the most amazing things ever
He's as funny as she is. This interview is hands down the best thing ever! Diane killing it at being Philomena not being intentionally funny, and the professor killing it at not being intentionally funny in real life!
"History puts everything into perspective". Love that!
the “that’s probably why you’ve got glasses” is an all time classic line
“Matthew Hopkins!? He went to my school!”
Best part for me
The enthusiasm is adorable! :D
He's Philomena-proof!
What a great chap this man is. Very knowledgable and always kind
He certainly knew the rules to the game!
I get the sense that he's explained history to his kids or grandkids a lot. ^_^
I have watched most of his lectures available on youtube and he did not disappoint with the Cunk interviews 😂
Yes i've just discovered his lectures too and i'm enjoying them very much.
“Are stones made of rocks, or are rocks made of stones” - Philomena Cunk
😂 I've planned on sometime reading 'Blood and Mistletoe: The History of the Druids in Britain' by him, but now I'm not going to be able to get his dry and slightly whimsical tone of voice out of my head when I read it. 😂
Bru, these two together are gold. It's the classic, "when unstoppable force meets immovable object" type of scenario.
Absolute hilarity. We need more of this!!
Hutton actually has a great sense on humor (listen to his lectures).
He’s very much enjoying playing along.
Teachers of all levels should aspire to be like Prof Hutton - smart, engaging, approachable, funny. I never miss his Gresham lectures
Seems like she met her match with this one!
They honestly make the perfect duo, lol
Oh my ! oh golly gosh she is so so so very very funny ! I burst my sides hearing her so very original and pithy clever clever comments, the tears ran down my face my hadkerchief was sopping wet I found it hard to controle my mirth ! she should do this as a profession !
Love him. Wld love to go to any lecture he gives
They both are brilliant!
He seems so patient like i just want him to tell me im doing a very good job and im very smart!
I'd like to ask Dr Hutton - " Will history soon be a thing of the past ? "
I simply love this guy!
I love Professor Ronald almost as much as I love her ❤.
I love it when a Cunk guest can just go with the flow.
This is just so amazing on every level!
IF I WEAR MY CONTACTS AND THE PUT ON MY GLASSES,i can see the future
What a lovely man is professor Hutton! You can see the impish student peeking through!😂
such a great professor
'So rocks are more jaggedy?' 🎉
These two should have a podcast together. I love how he handles her questions and adds his own jokes.
"This isn't the same Matthew Hopkins. I hope." 💀
So many cuts in there - presumably so Dr Ron can stop laughing, straighten his face again and get his breath back
Dr. Ron? Is that like Dr. Phil?
That final remark - nicely done on the Prof's part.
Like those famous jagged rocks near Glastonbury, Hutton is a national treasure
If you have never come across Ronald on TV before try the farm series. Tales of Green Valley, Edwardian Farm, Victorian Farm, etc, etc. I've seen Ruth and Ronald so much now that they feel like old family members you havent seen for a while when they pop up in unexpected placed. Always a pleasure.
"That probably why you've got glasses" 😂
Matthew Hopkins also went to my elementary school here in America-not in my class, that was ages ago. Amazing kid, that Matthew Hopkins.
"Myyyy Matthew is gettin' a divorce..." (virtually bats eyes at Matthew through the camera) 😍
Not even Cunk can break Professor Ronald Hutton.
I like to think that both of these wonderful people are Time Lords.
Thunderdome! Two go in! One comes out!
Professor Hutton interviews are some of Cunk's best!!
I know a Matthew Hopkins that, although he didn't string up elderly women, he did cheat on inventory, and we had a full larder as a consequence.
He had the perfect sense of humour for her interviewing style. I love how he actually did slip in bits of history, though.
I first came across him on Historyonics in the early 2000s - so this isn't the first entertainment he's done. Shame that's not on iplayer now.
He’s an amazing teacher !!!
Two great minds.
He's fabulous. He totally belongs in her show!
love Ronald Hutton.
He is perfect! I love the duo!
Fabulous last line!!!!
I remember this guy from life in the green valley and other historical shows. Did she interview Ruth??
I've just seen a video of the professor talking bout fairies
He stole the scene with the Stuart quip. I had to stop the video. I was laughing too hard to hear.
Its a little different than Prof. Hutton's Gresham lecture's! 🎉😍🤩💖🤣🤣🤣
James May : Professor Edition
She is actually right about looking into the sun. Just bcs one is able doesn't mean one should do it. That's probably why he wears glasses.
From the Stone Age , in the past , to the future , The Stoned Age , life is a circle
Brilliant . She was never going to look anything but (as my grandfather use to say) "young and silly". She's brilliant . I dont know her so I assume she doing a "not a nine oclock news ". Only oldies would understand that !!
It all makes sense now. That man is a saint!
That's a sharp and cool dude right there.
I'm from the US and I love her so much.
"Did pagans have a hard time going around on all fours?" And he keeps a straight face...these two should take that show on the road.
2:18 "WHAT WAS THE WINTER SOUL-TITTS?". Gurlllll...
There's something really endearing about his quirkiness
That guy is brilliant.
Pretty sure they both lost. Philomena was bored and the Professor still answered her questions
Amazing last line
Almost like watching Sheldon answering these questions
So many cuts in there - presumably so Dr Ron can stop laughing, straighten his face again and get his breath back 🙂
Dressed like The Doctor
Love him
imagine if it really had been the Mathew Hopkins she'd gone to school with. There might have been clues, with regard to his vocation.
LEGEND
He is great on TV on his own, he has no problem with her.
I love this 😆 yay Ron-Ron
". . . so rocks are more jaggedy?" 😂
I will shamelessly clip the first seconds into a DRG video
I love him!
This is wonderful 😂
