US halts Chinese aircraft engines, but China overtakes in a surprising turn of events.

  • China's C919 aviation project, represented by the large passenger aircraft C919, has become a significant breakthrough and challenge in the global aviation industry. It has rewritten the competitive landscape and triggered geopolitical reactions. The C919, designed to compete with Airbus and Boeing, has gained significant orders, mainly from Chinese airlines and leasing companies. COMAC, the manufacturer, recently launched derivative models of the C919 to cater to different market needs. The shortened or plateau version is suitable for high-altitude airports, while the extended version targets the mid- to long-range market. These modifications enhance the aircraft's competitiveness and flexibility. However, the US, particularly Boeing, has been affected by China's shift away from purchasing their aircraft. US officials are reportedly considering stopping the supply of LEAP engines, which could impact the C919's production. While the C919 relies on international cooperation for core technologies, its development showcases China's potential in the aviation industry and poses a challenge to US aviation competitiveness.

I'm just amazed by what China has achieved! Blocked using GPS, developed Beidou navigation system. Not allowed onto ISS, built Tiangong space station. Stopped sale of semiconductors, tweaked DUV lithography machines to make 7nm chips. And so many other innovations. China's leaders are far sighted and wise and her people talented and hardworking.

Huawei and many other Chinese companies believed in the past the international division of labor. They did not make an effort to produce sophisticated parts for their products because they were focusing on assemblies of products, and left the more complex parts to American and European companies. But the US trade sanctions on Huawei and other Chinese companies wake them up to the reality that they can't rely on other countries for parts and technology. It is a blessing in disguise for China to be sanctioned by the United States. Now China is on the road to self sufficiency which is impossible if the US did not sanction China.

The United States has been promoting international trade, outsourcing and international division of labor. That was when the US was benefitting profoundly from these trade policies. But when China becomes a competition and challenge to the US, the US suddenly changes its trade policies. No more free trade and division of labor, the US applies sanctions and restrictions on China, in the areas of chips, AI technology, and now on airplane engines. The United States is an evil, selfish and unprincipled country which is jealous and feels threatened and hurt when there is a country which can challenge its position in the world politics and trade.

    • @George-k6o9t

The U.S. always has been "an evil, selfish and unprincipled country" that has always been afraid of other countries and envious of those that do better than itself. This is why it has always tried to takeover the businesses of those countries that do well - either by hostile takeovers in the shares market or the buying out of the talents in those countries. They, in fact, coined the phrase a long time ago - "all is fair in love, business and war" - meaning that anything goes and competitive business is akin to war.
Go study the history of U.S. business over the past 300 years and you will find proof in this desire to DOMINATE others, no matter what methods are used. It is one of the principles in "Capitalism Lesson 101". Do not expect fairness when dealing with the U.S. as fairness applies ONLY to the U.S. itself and not to its competitors.

@@stayprepared2388.. Firstly; the Leaf engine is a CFM product. It is made by the cooperation by the French Safran & the U.S. GE Aerospace corporation. The engine is tailor-made for this aircraft type. Used by Boeing, Airbus & other manufacturers. China has shown itself as a reverse engineering outfit that copy everything they can lay their hands on. They are not a member of the International IP association, thus copy everything, developing little to nothing. They bypass R&D cost as much as they can for manufacturing. The West has been fine with that, as long as it could sell into the Chinese market, but now they are met with protectionism from growing CCP regulation. This is the reason the West is closing high-tech exports to China. They copy it. Why would you sell anything to an outfit that copy your product, put tariffs on you and sell your own product back to the market at reduces prices? Only a fool does that.

    • @larsnystrom6698

China doesn't want to encourage the US to become good at manufacturing.
They also like the decoupling to be slow, so they can adapt.
Furthermore, free trade is something China like. They will never initiate anything hindering that, although they do sometimes respond.
The US thinks it's only because China still profit from it, but that's only a part of it.

They already fly the "new" engine in some of their fighter jets. They fit, and work perfectly in the C919. They mentioned it would take awhile to get certification. Better than caving and buying some Boeing planes, which no one wants to fly in. China makes these engines themselves.

This has happened time and time again.
However. The Americans will never ever learn the lesson. Like the clinically insane, they keep repeating the same action, hoping that this time, things will turnout differently.
I well remember the Americans denying the Chinese a role in the International Space Station. So they built their own.
Now it would appear the Chinese space station, might be the only game in town, as the international one, I.E, American one, flounders.
There are none so blind. As those who refuse to see.

China should beware, the USA will sanction the supply of engines, it would be better to collaborate with Russia, which has a 100% local supply chain for their MC 21. like airbus which is consortium of EU countries, China should join Russia in developing civillian planes. I know personally that planes by aeroflot flew in 1977 all the way to Moscow from Colombo. They had good engines.

Do not take anything said here seriously. Nothing credible in this report. Nothing like a "Plateau" variant. The only current variant has not even been produced in appreciable number yet. Even the performance specs listed are all wrong - it can do 5,500km, not 4075km. And there is nothing in the report to verify or even indicate the "stupid" click-bait heading given to the video. The LEAP engine is not solely produced by United States. It is a joint product between GE and Safran of France. There is no credible source where the indicated headlines is verified or reported. It is all hogwash!
