      I agree. Maybe they'd have a few less problems with some people if they told them why they stopped them in the first place. I've been stopped for something minor before (headlight out) and the cop actually asked me if I knew why he'd stopped me. Which I did because it had just went out that night (I was driving home from work) and I explained that to him. All this, give me your info first then I'll tell you just seems counter productive and adds to people's distrust of officers.

    Everyone should know that even if there isn't a paved sidewalk there is a pedestrian right of way on the side of any public road. In my state it is 32 or 33 feet from the center line. Technically a homeowner owns half of the road that is on their property, but it is part of the right of way. If the state cuts a tree on your right of way they have the right to, but they have to give you the wood if you want it. That way the state can collect taxes for all the public land that we own.

      Generally speaking, a prosecutor will charge the highest crime they believe they can actually get a conviction for, not necessarily the highest crime committed. Attempted murder means that the prosecutors will have to prove that the dad and son explicitly intended to kill the driver (as opposed to merely wound him for example), which is almost impossible to prove without a confession of their intent. Overcharging and being consequently unable to get a conviction is actually one of the most common ways for guilty people to walk free. This is especially the case in high profile cases, where public pressure to overcharge is a common problem.
      And to be clear, in this case specifically, it's actually just outright a bad thing that these charges were upped. In MS, sentencing guidelines for Ag Assault actually aren't significantly less than those for attempted murder. TLDR is that it's fairly likely that the father and son will walk on the more serious charges, when the Ag Assault could've put them in prison for basically just as long. It seems to me that the charges were upped as a result of public pressure by people who didn't understand the implications of upping the charges, and that has left the driver in a situation where he is much less likely to get justice.

Big libraries for example, the ones that have rare book rooms, typically don't allow any photography or filming while in such rooms, and such a restriction does not constitute a violation of the first amendment.

      But that’s exactly why those won’t be taught. The state doesn’t want an educated populace, especially when it pertains to rights that may prevent its agents (law enforcement) from extracting wealth from the public.

    • @Rkbmomma
      @Rkbmomma 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I know it is a ploy for many cops to ask you to roll your window down because they "can't hear you." I would think it would be difficult to hear for officers sometimes due to road noise. He did finally turn his ear toward the window which is indicative of him having difficulty hearing. In this day and age of constant use of earphones, earbuds, etc, I would think there is a fair amount of hearing loss amongst the general population & even more so with cops, fire & EMS that don't wear hearing protection while running to a call with lights & siren. So, compound hearing loss with background noise, & you get difficulty hearing.

      @@Rkbmomma As Mr. Turner pointed out. Being on the side where the traffic noise was coming from didn't help him. And from an 'Officer Safety' standpoint is more dangerous. If the driver's door offered a better opportunity for hearing and was safer for the officer. Why would he have approached on that side of the car? Tactically it isn't a smart move either.

    There is a big problem right here. How is this not seen as an obvious conflict of interest. The law as written gives the police chief the ability to deny any permit for any gathering that he/she does not care for(such as a protest of police practices for example). This is clearly a poorly written law. Putting such a decision in the hands of one person is just ripe for misuse. 6:42
