How to: Volvo S40 C30 V50 C70 Engine Air Filter Replacement

- How to demonstration on how to replace the engine air filter on a Volvo C30. Here I am working with a 2.5L turbo’d engine and a similar procedure also applies to the S40, V50, and C70 models. AutoPartsWays, has supplied me with the air filter in order to produce this replacement. As a general specification, I typically like to replace the engine air filter at about 30,000km or 20,000 miles and it should be inspected during every oil change to see it’s current condition. Maintenance intervals may vary depending where you live, so if you’re exposed to more foreign contaminants in the air, then maintenance intervals would be less. A plugged or dirty air filter can cause poor performance, poor fuel economy, throttle hesitation, and increased emissions. #volvo #volvoc30 #volvos40

Tools/Supplies Needed:
-phillips screwdriver
-vacuum cleaner
-new air filter
-clean rag
Procedure:
-there will be two phillips screws which need to be removed
-once these have been disconnected, they will still remain in the filter tray assembly
-pull up the tray, it is clipped into place, then slide out the assembly with filter
-as you can see here is the filter assembly and the filter is somewhat dirty
-typically I like to clean the filter assembly to remove any dirt, so give it a wipe down with a rag
-I also like to clean the inside of the duct to remove any debris as it will stop right at the filter
-give the inside of the duct a wipe down with a clean rag
-then follow up with a vacuum cleaner
-it’s import to do this as any loose debris inside the housing will embed itself in the new filter, reducing it’s life expectancy and engine performance
-pair up the old and new filters to ensure they are the same and then install
-make sure the filter is pushed properly into the filter tray, otherwise it will be hard to install when going back into the air duct
-push the filter tray back into the duct, it should snap back into place and be flush with the rest of the duct
-then reinstall the retaining screws
-and you’re done

For my Volvo, after taking out the screws it is almost impossible to pull out the filter, like it is stuck or something, any advice for this? I don’t want to break the plastic when trying to pull on it
Hi..I have a 2011 C30 T5 R design..question-under the timing belt cover..there’s 2 sensors…what are they for? And how do you replace?

Hey man! I have the same air filter to install on my car and I was wondering if I’m supposed to take off that white sheet that sits on top of the filter before I install it? I see the one you put on has the same thing

Has anyone here fitted a cone filter to their facelift C30 1.6d drivE? It has the Peugeot engine I think so it's different
Does it have the same air box as the T5 in the video? If so, you're best sticking with the stock setup. Apparently this stock setup can handle around 300hp. The only other upgrade would be doing an ecu spacer if yours is mounted on the side of the air box.
