For anyone who had no luck after trying this…..I found another solution from someone else’s video. You have to enter the master code, let the light blink orange three times, push the top Schlage button once, then the number 7. It changes the main settings so that this isn’t allowed anymore. It fixed it for me!
I lost my programming code so I had to take apart the lock to retrieve the code from the plate on the key pad. After working on it for over an hour and watching two different videos, still not able to reinstall the lock. Five minutes into your video you had identified the problem, I corrected it and I now I not only have the programming code but a fully functioning keyless lock!!! THANK YOU !!!!!
Thank you SO much! Not only did this save me so much money but KEPT ME SAFE! To know how unsecure I have been for the last few months is terrifying...THANK YOU!!!!!
Fantastic video!! You saved my installation. Thank you! My daughter came home 2 days after I installed the new Schlage Camelot Electronic Keypad, and she said when she hit the Schlage button to illuminate the keys, it unlocked. When she told me, I almost didn't believe her thinking that wasn't even possible. I then found your video and had it fixed in minutes. Very fortunate folks like you make these videos to help guys like me. Cheers! ☕
Both my boyfriend and my dad installed this lock on different occasions and could not figure it out. I followed your instructions and now it works perfectly! Thank you!
Thank you. I’ve had so many issues with these locks but have them on all my doors. I’ve taken them apart and fixed them many times but this saves me some frustration this last time!
Totally agree with what has been said. I have been obsessed to figure this out. I wasted so much time., prior to your video. You are so helpful. I really appreciate it.
Dang realized mine was working like this today and searched and found your video - thanks much, only 2 years of negative security on my front door! I rarely use it so never noticed, checked the other 3 I own and all where correct!
Thank you for such easy to follow instructions. I just learned anyone could have walked into my home for the last 2 weeks😮. I knew I would find my answer on TH-cam👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Thanks for the video, we definitely installed the lock correctly the first time but this saved us from buying a new lock (its been working for almost a year and then developed this problem). I think the cam gets loose after a while of the door shutting and jiggling the lock. This is the second schlag we've had this happen to unfortunately, and after a long time of it working properly.
This is a valuable video. I had a lock like this that I didn't install and this was the problem. The directions for it are, of late, are pretty explicit about this too. They say with bolt retracted cam with arrow should point down. They even have a drawing. Its pretty explicit and can be found online as well as the paper directions that come with every lock.
@@LocksmithRecommended Someone else installed three new Schlage Be365s and two worked fine after I set a code but one opened with just the Schlage button...they threw out the directions so I didn't know what to do, what to check but your video told me exactly what the problem was. I found your video helpful and also out of curiosity looked at the directions online which do spell it out if only people would read them... No, it wasn't a locksmith who installed them, so that's an argument for considering that avenue...or installing them one's self if you're handy and read directions...
This kind of fixed my issue. It had the same symptoms as you described, but when I took it apart the cam was in the correct vertical position. I ended up unplugging the battery and re-plugging it in and it fixed the issue of the Schlage button unlocking the door. Weird. But this video helped me to troubleshoot the issue. I'm guessing the contacts on the battery just weren't all the way in or something. Not sure. BUT, I'll be replacing the battery today to make sure this isn't an issue moving forward. Thanks for the video!
I bought three of these, and two of the locks functioned well for 3 years. Just a month beyond the guarantee the third gave up, with a siimilar problem to what you are describing. The failure -- the disconnect of the front knob did not occur, presenting the problem you are describing. The bolt in and the tab face down did not free the bar that goes up and down inside the lock. Further, after three years (with fresh battery), the internal J shaped mechanism appears stuck in the up position, meaning the front knob will always be engaged. My gripe: Maintenance should not require a triple dismantling of the lock to reach the mechanism. In your video, you showed phiips screws to hold the flat plate to the front assembly. On our locks the inner plate is held with torx screws, and the fifth screw had the head sheared, so the lock cannot be dismantled without damage. The lock was installed onto a basement door, that faces west. Location, Montreal, Canada. After 2.5years, facing the sun,m the film plastic over the buttons split. exposing the lettering to direct sunlight. This lock was underused. About twice a day for five days per week (person left for work, returned from work) and only for 6 months per year. that is really about 600 open/closes max. Yes, I like the concept, but not the mechanical design, I think that Schlage has to do better. We need an optional shroud to protect the buttons from the 8hrs/day direct sunlight, and Schlage needs to have a policy of fast exchange/replacement of the plasticised keypad and the locking mechanism. We cannot leave the home unprotected. A motorized lock in our situation is not practical as when the batteries fail, there is no way to get into the premises to retrieve the keys. What I would like is a lock that provides fast easy cylinder replacement with easy physical key replacement. The cylinder should allow for master key and end-user key.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I never saw the install instructions because I had already hooked up one before and I lucked out. But, the proper instructions were on the back of the dead bolt when I took it apart to make this fix. Thank you so much.
Thank you! I just fixed 2 of these locks I had installed incorrectly but are now working because of your awesome video. So easy. I can't say thank you enough for being so easy to learn from. 👏😊
Excellent Video, thank you. I have a different problem on this lock where after entering the code, the lock has a hard time engaging (as if the lock is stripped). Is there a video on this? Thank you.
For those of you who say that this fix didn't work and you had to disable the Schlage button via the programming mode 7 option, let me share my experience. TLDR; One of the screws may be in the way of the cam's rotation. I was very careful to install it correctly, and it was installed correctly. I had the same issue as described in the video. I also found it odd that the bolt did not stick out very far, but just wrote it off as the way it is. I double checked my installation after watching this video and I had, in fact, installed it correctly. Looking at it again, the cam that closes the limit switch on mine was not able to rotate to disengage the switch when locking because of one of the screw heads. I had to take one of the screws out to allow the cam to rotate fully. I don't know how I ended up with the wrong screws, but the screws I have do not recess in the holes like the ones at 3:07. Once I removed that screw the cam was able to fully rotate. The bolt was also able to fully extend as well, which alleviated my prior concern about the short bolt.
I had to replace one, you entered the code and you would get the green light but it would not unlock. Had it for several years, replaced with another haven't had any issues. I would recommend that people that change codes often use the #6 option rather than the #2. The #6 deletes all the user codes entered.
After two years not knowing my door unlocked without code, sleeping so comfortable with my door lock backwards i got it fix thanks to you sir, thank you very much, my wife said it was scary having it like that, thanks again
My lock worked for years and I live on a quiet street and can audibly hear the engagement. I have installed a handful of these locks and never had a problem. I have also used the Schlage button to light the key pad for about 4 months of the year every night for years at least once a night and it never energized when pressed. That is until now. I am not a person who misses things like that. I no longer trust this lock or line of locks at all. Edit: The issue is intermittent. It did it a few more times and then it stopped. Without dissecting it, I can only surmise the cam position sensor is beginning to fail. It behaves as if the lock is retracted when in fact it’s extended, and then it doesn’t...
Mine was doing this and was installed correctly. I just needed a new battery. I installed a new battery and it seems to take a few minutes to go back to normal functioning. It bothers me somewhat that a weak battery would cause this behavior. I would expect the appropriate response would be to stop unlocking. That might not be so great if you only had one way in.
Thank you so much for this, I never would have figured this out in a million years on my own, I loved the deadbolt but was getting ready to get rid of it because it just unlocked instantly with the push of a button
Very helpful thank you for the video. I now feel stupid for not catching that in the instructions. I said to myself its right otherwise bolts wouldn't fit well little did i not see. That the dead bolt needs to be retracted. Again thank you
Mine has had this problem too. I opened it up and found I had installed it correctly. I replaced the battery and it seems to be working fine now. Do you know if a bad battery could cause the same problem?
Help! My lock was working fine for two years. Now as of late, I’m encountering the problem you tried to fix in the video. Can it still be installed incorrectly if it was working fine for two years?
Is there a way to keep from having to enter the code every time you come in the door, even when it’s unlocked? My door handle will only work when the code is entered….
They make two levers. The 575 and 595. The 575 always requires a code to enter. The 595 can be used without the code. The 595 has a thumbturn on the inside of the lever. That thumbturn puts it in a passage mode where no code is required.
Hi, I have the opposite issue. The door locks when I hit the Schlage button but to open it I have to enter sometimes all the stored codes until one unlocks it’s. The codes are correct because there’s a green light and I can hear the clicking sound, it just doesn’t unlock. I just know that’s not normal!
Our lock had the same problem but with a different cause: As our cam was already in the correct position, we disassembled the lock (by taking off the colored plate) and found that one end of the leaf spring was installed incorrectly at the factory. This caused the contacts to be always "on", regardless of the position of the cam. Once the spring was back in its proper place, the lock worked as intended.
I’ve been messing with this lock for a week. Everything was installed correctly no matter how I put it. It’s still unlocked by pushing the button. I’ve been doing remodeling work for 20 years and I’m baffled.
