    As a locksmith for over 20 years I would also add that it is also extremely important that you ALWAYS take your key with you. I get multiple calls every single week from customers with electronic locks that are locked out either because the batteries died without warning, or some other malfunction caused the lock not open using the keypad. People have to remember that these locks are simply for convenience of locking and unlocking and are not a replacement to carrying your key.

    This video is absolutely on target. Trusted contractor installed ours. for years i couldn't figure out why phone controller wouldn't show it as locked. realized exactly what he's saying was the problem. They also have a stronger, more secure strike plate with a pocket available.

    Great video. Installed my lock and would seem to lock automatically, but then retract when pulling on the the door. Based upon this video realized that the bolt was not extending all the way. Have adjusted the hole for the bolt to extend fully and now it works great. Thanks Acme Locksmith!

    spot on, the throw was a little tight on mine. Clearing that space fixed the crazy cycling.

    Its amazing how many builders install deadbolts incorrectly. I bought a brand new condo duplex 4 years ago and I had to correct the deadbolt hole which was approx. 1/4" too shallow. The same for the guy next door, crazy.

    Thank you, sir. My deadbolt recess was about a 1/4" too shallow and I was trying to find ways around it but you are right. There are no ways around it so I used a masonry drill bit and deepened the recess and voila. My Yale Assure SL lock works as it should now.

  • @CynthiaKerns

    The 1 inch depth on the deadbolt recess was the problem with my new Yale smart lock. My husband made the hole deeper and the whole thing just started working.

    • @LocksmithRecommended

      Could be a strike issue, the strike is rubbing the bolt or it could be the issue we discussed in this video.

    Question I see reviews for the expensive electronic locks but what would you recommend for one with out all the extras? Just a key and key pad no RFID, WiFi, or cellphone.

    • @LocksmithRecommended
      @LocksmithRecommended  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      For touch screen, I'd still go with the Yale, just without the Wifi feature.
      It is on our website:
      www.acmelocksmith.com/buy-safes-online/yale-touch-screen-bluetooth-deadbolt-yrg426.html
      If you don't care about the touch screen, Schlage has a great push button lock for less than $100. It's on Amazon here:

      And you can see our video on the Schlage lock above here: th-cam.com/video/6LK5wc8eGZg/w-d-xo.html

    What happens if the battery dies ? And key it’s not around ? Yale locks have a 9 v alternate option for when battery are out- does this one have something like this?

    • @LocksmithRecommended
      @LocksmithRecommended  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You get a low battery notification when the batteries start getting low.
      Interesting question though. I still carry my house key with me everywhere even though I have a Smart Lock. I don't carry 9 volt batteries on me. I'll have to think about that.

    Question.. I rekeyed a Schlage to have a master key. My master key will turn counter clockwise nice and smooth, but wont turn clockwise AT ALL. The operation keys work PERFECT. What could be the issue? Thanks

    • @LocksmithRecommended
      @LocksmithRecommended  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Most likely just need to recut the master key. Sometimes when a key is cut poorly the key is at an angle in the jaw of the key machine. It only takes a little bit of an angle to create the problem mentioned. You could try to LIGHTLY run a round file across the cuts of the key ONE or TWO times and check the key again.

    • @JJtheguitartech
      @JJtheguitartech 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LocksmithRecommended Thank you so much. The master works fine in 3 other locks that I repinned. Its just the one that is giving an issue. I'll try what you said. Maybe the key needs to be cleaned up a hair.

    Why you still have the normal door lock with handle? Is it necessary? Or it serves as a handle for the type of Yale product you chose

    • @LocksmithRecommended
      @LocksmithRecommended  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      In my installation, the handle lock is what automatically latches the door shut when I close it so it doesn't just blow open. But, instead of buying the deadbolt version of the Yale CBA they also sell a handle version of it, so you could just buy that and replace your existing lever/knob.
      On Amazon here:
      amzn.to/3uMPpva
      I do get a small commission if you use that link and buy product from Amazon.

    My tt lock opens via Bluetooth and closes but when I use my pin pad it only opens. When it closes it only makes noise but doesn't lock

    • @LocksmithRecommended
      @LocksmithRecommended  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Could be this, th-cam.com/video/AZ4D0F4d1V0/w-d-xo.html , but if it's closing via bluetooth, maybe not because it would struggle both ways.

    Thank you for the reviews on the Yale August locks! Could you tell me if the deadbolt that comes with the August smart lock can be bumped? What type of grade 1 deadbolt that is compatible with the Yale-August smart locks would you recommend replacing it with that cannot be bumped? Thank you!

    • @LocksmithRecommended
      @LocksmithRecommended  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The default one can be bumped by a skilled person. It does have anti-bump pins installed but it's doable. We sell them with a Mul-t-lock cylinder upgrade. www.acmelocksmith.com/buy-safes-online/yale-touch-screen-bluetooth-deadbolt-yrg426.html

    • @LocksmithRecommended

      Your lock is installed wrong. Is it the schlage? If yes, this will solve your problem. th-cam.com/video/L-jr3pZXnNI/w-d-xo.html

    These locks should be smart enough to automatically adjust itself if the throw is too short.

    What if the lock is doing this even when the door is open (nothing is restricting the bolt from extending)?

    • @LocksmithRecommended

      Call their customer support. The only thing that might be is if you're handing is wrong. But that would depend on the lock you have.

    My Yale smart lock can not open, keyed in PIN number, ✅ door locked won’t open. Now what ? It works well for 3 years

  • @bme7491

    Why an electronic deadbolt? A burglar can still pick the lock like they would a standard deadbolt.

    • @LocksmithRecommended
      @LocksmithRecommended  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's just a convenience thing. I like knowing when my kids have arrived home. I like knowing my kids will never be locked out (like if they lost their house key). I like being able to check that my door is closed and locked from anywhere.
      Almost all of them though make a version of their lock that has no keyhole.
