Great to see they've finally fixed these issues. Some people thought our concerns were childish, but I think getting these games to run accurately is important for video game preservation. Imagine if reprinted books had rewritten passages that were "basically the same" but used less flowery language, or cut out paragraphs all together. *shudders*

I know I made the same comment in your last update but I'm still shocked Nintendo is actually addressing these emulation issues. It's kind of absurd they didn't have some basic things like OOT fog correct from the beginning, but it's great to see that these issues are being addressed. It seems like Nintendo sees this as a long time investment and that it's to important to address consumer concerns in this area. The input lag is still more of a work in progress but hey, they're getting there. Thanks for putting this together, man.

actually it is more complicated than you think, nerrel made a great vid about this, and how much of a nightmare it is even today for Nintendo emulation to work well even in modern hardware and all the mess it requieres for it to work properly, the problem here was that they release this before it was ready which is bad and should be called out if it were that gamers have been condition to already consider this the norm.

I still think though it's pretty scummy that Nintendo won't carry over purchases you made on an old console to the Switch. Not just that, you can't buy these games outright on the Switch, but have to rent them instead.
So what, I have to pay $5 a month to get what I could have gotten for free with already existing community emulators? Nintendo can cry and scream and kick and try to ignore it, but many of these N64 games are over 20 YEARS OLD now. Were these games adhering to patent law expiration dates, the copyright would have expired on them and they should be going into public domain. This is bullshit, and regardless of the emulation quality, the Expansion Pack service is NOT worth it, and will never be worth it without at very least an option to buy these games outright AND HAVE THEM CARRY ACROSS TO FUTURE NINTENDO CONSOLES. That is the only way in my eyes that Nintendo asking for money for these old-ass games would be at least somewhat justified.

If you just started with the nintendo switch, that is just unfortunatly the modern way to play classic game, rent only. Or if you did have a WiiU with does purchase digital content, and you sold it because you assume Nintendo switch was going to do VC again, that is not Nintendo fault that you did that. When the paid online subscription first started in September 2018, people says your online playing 20$ US dollar for the Nes online only, that was false, the 20$ US dollar was to continued playing modern online game that was behind the pay wall, and to smoth out the change they added the NES online happe, people that like the NES got no problem, then in September 2019 they added SNES to it, and that same false rumor still show up, your paying 20$ US for just NES, and SNES only, that is false, the 20$ US dollar was for modern online game. Why did they decided to do it like that to implement multiplayer friend list to NES , SNES online, and now N64 online, Segea Genisis without spending to mush money on it. It would have cause them to mush money to implement friend list multiplayer to each individuel purchase classic game. For example: take a look at this what if senario: you still have to pay 20$ for the modern online used, I have to purchase Nes Super mario bros. that is 20$, but because I payed the online services it only discount 5$, so it is still 15$, why so expensive friendlist multiplayer online for each purchase game, and it would have goten worst from that point forward, and if you did not pay the online services it would be 20$ for NES Super mario bros. you just don't have the multiplayer function available, but it still cause that mush because it is implemented into it.

    • @yellowblanka6058
      @yellowblanka6058 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Considering the Expansion Pack is not a "perk" to NSO, but rather is an Add-On TO that online package that more than doubles the total cost, it's probably good they're prioritizing issues with the emulation, but you are right that the lack of a party system/on system voice chat is pretty sad in 2022. Unfortunately, in that case, I think the lack of those things was a calculated move to reduce background CPU/memory demands further (we've already seen games like Doom Eternal that disable the ability to record videos etc. to free up more memory/CPU time) - perhaps the next model of Switch will have enough spare CPU power and memory to run games AND have a decent online system.

    • @Hypershell

@@yellowblanka6058 I don't believe the hardware excuse for a second. Even setting aside system level solutions, Nintendo used to do a better job of handling those things game-by-game than they do now. Mario Kart DS, if you were already playing online, would alert you if a friend was looking for a match. Neither MK8 Deluxe nor Super Smash Bros. Ultimate do anything of the sort. Sure, Nintendo's always been behind the curve in online features, but the Switch has noticably regressed even by their own standards.

I was using the NSO N64 controller on my real N64 through the Intecgaming BT N64 adapter and I noticed the sensitivity. I don't know if something like that can be fixed by just a firmware update since it seems like a potentiometer issue.
That's why the Gamecube styled N64 joystick replacements were too sensitive. Instead of reading, say, 85-95 steps max like the OEM N64 joysticks, the modern gaming potentiometer reads 125 max, skipping steps along the way to reach the maximum. To fix that would require direct editing of potentiometer code, and changing how it reads joystick movement for N64 games.
I guess it could be fixed through firmware by compensating for the sensitivity.

I’m pretty sure the MK8 DLC is also sold separately, just so you know.

And this is why you should always complain when you are not satisfied.
    Well done guys.

Glad everyone spoke out about this. The goal as always is to get the best experience you can for the money, especially a monthly subscription. These were all realistic criticisms & I’m glad they’ve been improved. Money aside, even though this is a subscription, I hope Nintendo realizes the importance of preserving the style & feel of these games.

My thought is that Nintendo are the worst, and especially when they are on top like they are now with record Switch sales and whatnot. There is really no excuse to (re-re-re-)release 20+ years old games in this state, especially since they are all emulated perfectly on so many other platforms (including Nintendo's own) and have been for many years, and for free.

There is one minor issue in Super Mario 64 I did notice that would be nice if Nintendo fixed it is Mario's Shadow which is A bit off from the Original Cartridge.

Glad to see the NSO N64 Expanison conclude the open beta phase and be ready for release!
Jokes aside, I think these minor visual bugs are only the top of the iceberg of problems with the N64 expansion. The visual bugs are fun to clown on, but usually they don't matter that much. Many of the problems many people have with the service comes down to its core design. You pay an insane amount of money every year to rent virtual copies of a few hand-picked games. There's no option to use your own ROMs, no fan-mods, no high-res textures, no cheats, no remapping controls (outside of system settings), etc. While it's good Nintendo is fixing the more egregious visual bugs and (slightly) fixing the ridiculous amount of input delay, these should never have been issues in the first place. Even if the emulation is completely perfect, which it will never be, I think it's not worth it at all.

Now I'll be getting this for sure, likely just before the first wave of the new Mario Kart 8 tracks. I'm still holding out for Tetrisphere! I adore that game.

Question about the service. Does it do what the Zelda gamecube emulation did where the Y, X, and R buttons do the most common C-buttons?

Nintendo's already burnt me on this service. Luckily I didn't get it so I didn't have to deal with any of these issues that were fixed. There's still some bugs in the N64 stuff though and Nintendo taking so long to fix it burnt me on it so I refuse to get it. I'm trying to get my hands on a Wii U so I can buy these games cause I ain't spending $50 a year for broken games I can already play on something else that they aren't broken on.

Thanks for the update, glad to see Nintendo listened to the gaming community rather than just shrugging it off.

That's cool, what if we stopped giving money to companies for unfinished products? I know we'd have less to make videos about, but maybe there's a middleground we can reach where the odds of a product being finished on release isn't akin to tossing a coin. It's rocket science, I know :D
