Absolutely love your honesty regarding the FP Journe market. Everybody is going insane, and it has actually negatively impacted the interest and emotional connection I have to the brand.
I owned the Type XX, awesome watch but ultimately I agree with Fed's comments on the movement. I swapped it for a Blancpain Leman Flyback and threw on an RGM display back so I can drool over the movement. There is a limited edition Type XX with the display back, but I think it only comes with a nasty shinny blue dial. Still, the Type XX movement is probably more robust than a similar column wheel movement and cheaper to overhaul.

I have a type XX with display back. It’s a rose gold limited edition. I gotta say = love the watch. I grove on the steam-punk feel. I find the dial layout very attractive. Great show, lots of frank advice. On the Breguet XX / Speedmaster question you didn’t mention that the coaxial Speedys are column wheel action as opposed to the classic 861/1861 speedys. As a bonus, if you keep the chronograph running, you can track a second time zone on the 3 o’clock register. They are a bit more pricey however which, I assume, is why you didn’t muddy the water with the new speedmaster.

There are speedmasters with the 9300 caliber which is a column wheel and vertical clutch chronograph. Check those out, crisp and soft purshers, almost the same filling as using a really high end chrnograph like L&S or PP.

I think the Chronomètre Souverain is worth every penny of yesteryear's pricing. Gorgeous dial design, fantastic movement architecture, and beautiful movement even though not the highest finishing. Don't care that it is uncomplicated. However, at today's going rate, the area where I think it falls short is in the dial material. You get your choice: plain or stamped guilloche. Stamped guilloche shouldn't be a thing at this price point, and the plain option is lacking in depth. I think that goes a way towards explaining why the Bleu is so popular - the dial has a depth that is lacking in the CS. Would like to see FPJ introduce some richer dials for the CS. Not sure if that means engine-turned guilloche, grand feu enamel, some special lacquering process, or what. But at today's pricing, I think it needs something.
I think you are massively overlooking the calibre 1304 that powers the journe chronometre souverain. Yes, it is a 'simple' time-only watch, but it has a double barrel design for constant power delivery with a focus on chronometric performance, which neither the ALS nor the JLC has. IMO, the comparison between the three watches is flawed in the first place anyway... they are all great watches, just not apples to apples.
"Double barrel design for constant power delivery with a focus on chronometric performance" is not that uncommon in the 10k watch space. Hell, my Cartier manufacture movement has exactly that. And the Piguet Caliber FP1150, which has been the backbone of the high echelon of the Swatch Group (Breguet and Blancpain) has a double barrel, 100 hours pr. The duometre, for contrast, is something entirely new, never before seen, hardly imitated. Look at the guts of the watch, its architecture is so fresh and unmistakeable.

What's your opinion on GS quartz? It's high accuracy quartz watches with decorated quartz movements and the same excellent finish. It's also from the same maker that created the quartz crisis.
What you said about Breguet Type XX sounds about right but you should also remember that Breguet was a mediocre brand after Chaumet brothers sold it to investcorp. Breguet was somewhere below JLC after the scandals when releasing that watch and Swatch went along with it for a while. Senior Hayek was a blessing to Breguet when we think back. Breguet is currently almost at its highest glory like when the son of A. L. Breguet took over the brand. Also, I prefer riding Toyotas and enjoy amazing watches.
Is the buying an FP Journe vs Speedy, like buying a cheap 2010 sticky button/will break at any moment and there is no warranty Ferrari vs a new Boxster or M4.
Ahhh the affordable breguet...to me the comparison is more navitimer or type XX,this faceoff makes me go more for the speedy given the price to movement quality ratio (plus,by the gods,the history) but the Breguet is certainly tempting being the brand it is and its low price.
So many choices in the Grand Seiko collection so I can see why you haven’t narrowed it down yet. I really like their seasons watches! I hope to own one someday.

The Type 20 with the gold crown and 20 Atm is second to none. I believe they did that with the 1996 version.
