    The Breguet Classique is truly beautiful. The epitome of a dress watch.

    Thanks for the video. 5 stars for Breguet! What an amazing history. If I remember correctly Napoleon used to have one 😆

      At the Battle of Waterloo, both the Duke of Wellington & Napoleon had Breguet watches. Most of the generals on both sides had Breguets. Abraham-Louis' watches were the best, and for coordinating armies, only the best would suffice. Cheers, Bill

    Thanks for the informative video Bill, I think I've found my grail watch.... the XX Aeronavale. It ticks all the boxes for me anyway. I really appreciated your going the extra distance to provide a exact answer to the maintainence questions.

    • @watchartsci
      @watchartsci  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Breguet XX Aeronavale has a Lemania 1350 movement with a flyback on the Aeronavale. Here's a short description of the movement: www.chronometrie.com/chronomovs/cm03.html ... The Ebel 1911 uses the same movement, and represents a much overlooked option-at half the price. (For example: www.googleadservices.com/pagead/aclk?sa=L&ai=DChcSEwik1ZakrLHiAhUEgbMKHZwgDz8YABASGgJxbg&ohost=www.google.com&cid=CAESQOD2orZuDn69gSD1zLMquiCyr6lF_3WSKBnAUJVSbhKXtN6vjRADwQRy75OuKb4W6MiyakjOQN6cz46mB3hDAjQ&sig=AOD64_2B_GcNZGD3HIqaSue8rlcjY9UTvw&ctype=5&q=&ved=0ahUKEwjy-4-krLHiAhUtheAKHW7YCIsQ9aACCEE&adurl= ) Kindest regards, Bill

    Hell Bill
    Very interesting video. I have admired Breguet for a number of years and through various buying, selling and trading I currently do not own a chronograph. The Type Xx and Type XXI would certainly be solid choices.

    I must admit, the Type XX I found most appealing was the one most closely resembling a Hanhart, which I’m told was the initial inspiration for the series.

    Bréguet is the jewel of the crown of Swatch Group, it was managed by the son of the late founder of Swatch (now CEO of Swatch). Great history, huge inventions and innovations. I would put them in the top watches but not in the top brands, they need more efforts on marketing in my view. Not too blingy, low profile, only known and identified by connoisseurs , just my kind of watch. I aim to have the Chronométrie, won’t get it soon though (have a family to raise first) 😀😀. Thank you Bill, keep them coming.

    The Breguet ref. 3807 is a beautiful watch to me since I am primarily a chronograph collector. The look of the Blancpain dial is very unusual, although the movement sounds interesting. Good video. Take care.

    indeed very tempting and beautiful watches. I'd probably opt for that Type XX with the nice (former) Lemania Movement

    • @watchartsci
      @watchartsci  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Diggert, that Type XX is quite tempting. Keep in mind that Lemania made the movement in the Omega moon watch; so it's more than meets the eye, especially under Blancpain's wing. Kindest regards, Bill

    • @digggert
      @digggert 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You mention Blancpain, but hasn't Blancpain integrated Frederic Piguet (while Breguet got Lemania)? I guess you meant Breguet ?!

    • @watchartsci
      @watchartsci  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are right Blancpain & FP and Breguet & Lemania ... I always confuse the two even though the irony that Frederic Piguet once owned Blancpain before they were both bought by Swatch has always been clear as a bell! Thanks, Bill

    Even the rotor on the classique are hand engraved on a rose engine plus the dial is silvered gold. Killer deal probably the best high horology watch in any category for the preowned price. For a little more you can get a beautiful sub seconds dial too. Great choices. The type xx to me is a good watch watch if your buying breguet go dress watch in my opinion

    I have a friend of the family whom is swiss, and their family members all work for Breguet ... which is what got me interested in the brand years ago. Since then i've acquired Omega, Rolex, and even a Patek... but still no Breguet. I really like the dress watches but I tend to wear my chunky diver stuff more. I think this might be my next dress watch. Thanks Bill

    • @watchartsci
      @watchartsci  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Cap'n! The Breguet Tradition has my attention too, but like you say, it's a dress watch ... and a very interesting one. You like chunky diver types, what about a Breguet Type XX that might double as a dress watch while being a sports watch? Cheers, Bill

    As ever very interesting Bill. I'm very interested in Type XXs and Type 20/21s in general but always debate the most useable bezel for a pilot of light aircraft. I think military spec in the Type 20 spec was hour/count down. Some civil bezels were hour/count up, but Breguet have used a minute/count up in the 1990s remake which was a rare site in the history of the Type XX (though did appear briefly in the '50s). More we associate this with dive watches? Given your druthers, what would you spec as a pilot and watch man? I ask this as you can spec either at Dodane - one of the main builders of Type 20s.

    • @watchartsci

      James, I used to fly a Cessna 177B 'Cardinal' and about the most important thing a watch can have is Zulu time and big enough to read easily. What do you fly? Take care and be safe, Bill😷

      @@watchartsci Hitherto, just motorcycles! I think learning to fly may be my '21 challenge. Weather and Covid permitting. Obviously, I'm starting serious aviation research not with (probably 177!) simulators, but by looking at watches... All best health!

  • @AbdulRWatches
    @AbdulRWatches 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thanks Bill for the great informative video, i think Breguet Type XX and Classique 5157 are great watches, and also affordable to buy, but i think that servicing it might be the biggest issue, as it might cost a ton. What do you think a watch collector should look for before buying Breguet watches?
    Best,
    Abdul

    • @watchartsci
      @watchartsci  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Abdul, the Breguets may not be too expensive for service. A complete service will run about $800, but that's only recommended ever 10 years. So figure about $80/year. If you plan to go into the water, you should have it tested for water-proofing every 2year, and that's about $300. Cheers, Bill

    • @AbdulRWatches
      @AbdulRWatches 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      WatchArtSci that's actually very affordable and reasonable. I thought it might cost more.

    The CEO founder Nicolas G. Hayek of the swatch, when he die had a breguet on both wrists. Why you think so?
    Best of Best.

    • @watchartsci
      @watchartsci  2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Bill, I'm surprised that you didn't mention the Breguet Marine. Dressy but you can wear it all day every day. On a rubber strap it is a diver and on leather very dressy.

    • @watchartsci
      @watchartsci  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bob, you're right about the versatility of the Marine, but at about $1-2k more expensive than the XX, it wasn't the "entry level" I wanted to look at for a Sports Watch. So I took one from sports and one from dress for entry level. A while back I covered the Marine as part of a more general review of Breguet ( th-cam.com/video/9-oPkOwHcBc/w-d-xo.html ).
