What is truly interesting/unique about Pakistan is that unlike other countries the urban population generally tends to be more conservative/religious than the rural population. Being a Karachiite and having travelled across the country what I truly found bewildering was the average Karachiite/Lahori middle class family is more conservative than a family living in interior Sindh/rural Punjab.

Very true. I'm from the North(Chitral) and I found Lahore more conservative than my village. I was -on several occasions- stopped from entering in restaurants because I'd be wearing shorts. And many people in the streets have admonished me for growing long hair.
I've worn the same dress in my village and no one said anything nor did anyone pass any judgement on my hairstyle

Karachi has always been anti PPP which is a liberal party of a sort. Its direct competitor used to be Jamait e Islami before MQM came about. Those supporting Jamait E Islami, their off spring generally turned out to be conservatives. Secondly PPP supporters have always identified themselves as Sindhis and have a great affinity and self identity. The Karachi people were always confused. Hence Islam became their identity, leading to conservatism.

@@majeedalee9609agreed, but during my time in Karachi, I used to have a full clean shaved face. Once this dude from Hunza or Chitral maybe, asked me why I dont follow sunnah (he had a khat beard), I was like: keeping a beard was common back then, and not now. The dude started twisting my words and made it sound like I was a blasphemer. So, yes, large cities have such people, but there are no black and whites.

If Zulfiqar Bhutto can be right off as Complex rather than an authoritarian, feudal, egoistic. So, can be Imran Khan, Zia Khan, Musharraf, Britishers (only colonizer's) and many others. @@zeebazafar5030 In the realm of armed forces, a stark contrast emerges between the noble institution of the professional army and the malevolent presence of dacoits. Though both wield the power of firearms, the distinction lies not in their weaponry, but rather in their adherence to the principles of law, discipline, and honorable conduct. A profound elegance sets the professional army apart, transcending mere physical prowess to embody a profound commitment to righteousness.
The professional army, as an embodiment of order and righteousness, operates within the bounds of a just and structured society. Each soldier, a stalwart guardian of the nation, willingly submits to the rule of law, recognizing that their duty is to serve and protect. In the face of danger, they embody a resolute discipline, forged through rigorous training and instilled values. Their conduct adheres to a code of ethics, upholding integrity and respect for human life. Like a symphony of purpose, their synchronized movements on the battlefield exemplify the culmination of tireless preparation and unwavering commitment to a higher cause.
Contrastingly, dacoits emerge from the shadows as renegades of society, propelled by lawlessness and devoid of the virtues that guide the professional army. Driven by self-interest, they wield their guns as instruments of chaos, heedless of the devastation they sow in their wake. Their actions are a testament to a decayed moral fabric, where the principles of justice and honor have succumbed to the darkness. Far removed from the symphony of the professional army, their every move is a discordant note in the symphony of civilization, perpetuating a cycle of fear and instability.
In this stark dichotomy, the beauty lies not in the possession of firearms, but in the preservation of humanity's highest ideals. The professional army is a testament to the triumph of order over chaos, embodying the elegance of discipline, honor, and the pursuit of a just cause. Its soldiers, guided by the light of virtue, harmonize their actions with the principles of righteousness. Theirs is a calling elevated above the mundane, forging a path where strength is tempered with compassion, and the power of arms is wielded for the greater good.
So let us marvel at the profound distinction between the professional army and the dacoits. One stands as a pillar of societal order, a bastion of righteousness, while the other embodies the disruptive forces that threaten the very fabric of civilization. In their juxtaposition, we find a poignant reminder of the enduring power of discipline, virtue, and adherence to the rule of law. The beauty lies not only in the strength of arms but in the resolute commitment to honor and the pursuit of justice that sets the professional army apart.

Finally you guys acknowledged atleast briefly, that mqm and karachi has been facing brunt of army operations since 90s uptill now. Because you both give examples of Baluch activists and PTM activists, which is good(that you remember them) but all these operations have continously been conducted in Karachi, which includes still missing persons, killings after abductions by law enforcers, people keep qouting that "MQM ne sirf shuhda qabristan abad kia thaa", while conveniently skipping over the fact that 90%(my estimation, as noone has qouted any figures till now) of the deads were result of establishment activities. Just 7 years ago, Farooq Sattars PA was arrested by rangers and two days later his tortured body was found, Nisar Panwar former MPA was arrested around 6 months ago, after he filed a review petition on ban on AH, thousands of missing persons were recovered suddenly when PSP was created. Police and rangers Raids on homes and apprtments was a common practice untill few years ago, Farooq Sattar was dragged from Karachi press club and arrested by rangers with full media coverage Farooq Sattar has given accounts of how he was kept in solitary confinement for suspected corruption charges while he was mayor. Twice in in 1990s the mqm hq was run by women only because all of the men were either arrested or were in hiding. Even nobody qoutes the fact that the actual court case rulling that banned Altaf Hussain was due to criticizing Army generals, nobody remembers the visuals of young mqm workers lying hogtied and blind folded on footpath when rangers raided 90 in 2016!! (They werent arrested, that means atleast they werent criminals).. All of these actions were applauded and defended by every non mqm supporters. You may not agree with mqms stance and actions (i myself dont agree with around 50%, and think Altaf Hussain became joker after 2000s) but you cant refute what was done to mqm and its support base. Of all the known bigger political party leaders, only AH has had the guts to speak out that Pakistan resolution was actually Lahore Resolution and has been tempered with, he was the only one who has spoken against Ahmadi persecutions, and among all the major parties in parliament, only MQM and ANP opposed the so called peace deal with TNSM in Swat. What PTI supporters are saying now, like you, mqm has been saying for ages about the millitiary.. why do you not qoute this along with other examples???? Burayee apni jaga, lakin jo achayee thee woh to kisi ko bhi yaad nahi mqm kee.

The mere mention of 'Clouseau' has Dreyfus go into mental breakdown as he volently utters tirade of profanity against Clouseau. Same with Paracha. NFP's/Your argument about people being more receptive to "protesters in jeans" has little substance. The reason why they get more support in leftist/liberal circles is due to the things they represent. A guy in Shalwar Kameez with a beard protesting for values they represent would get similar support.
Why would you expect both protests to get similar support? There's no contradiction in supporting a "pro democracy" movement and rejecting a religious fundamentalist one. Honestly, just comes across as shallow critique.
