Property tax should be eliminated at retirement age. It still feels like you are renting the land because property taxes have to be budgeted even though your property/vehicles are paid for. Great video breakdown of homesteading and prepping.

I agree fully! We are just the current tenants on our government rented property sadly. We can never be fully free here. Thanks for watching!

This was very informative. I'm not at the homesteading point yet. Husband and I are in the suburbs for now due to family and career responsibilities. When we retire in a few years we'll move to a more rural area to homestead. For now, I'm accumulating knowledge, skills and of course, preps.

That is great! It’s never too early to start! Having moved stuff we already owned helped us so much. The less you have to buy when you retire will be a big help!

Agreed, having zero debt is a wonderful feeling of freedom!

It's a great feeling for sure! Unfortunately the way things are going when we need a new vehicle that will probably change. I sold my old 2007 FJ cruiser in 2017 for $9000 with 200k miles after owning for 10 years (paid 26k new). I wanted to get another one and they are over $25k for ones with over 200k miles. 4runners are the same. There is no more affordable body on frame 4x4' SUV's anymore. We will have to live like paupers just to put away money for when a newer vehicle is needed.

I would consider us to be a good mix of homesteader/farmer and prepper. We are by No means completely self sufficient but we do raise quite a bit of our own food/meat. When I get my greenhouse built we will be growing even more. It's just two of us so that makes it much easier too.

We are the same but currently less farmer due to the move. Luckily we put away tons of stuff from the hold place. We too are planning a green house! I love the prepping community but at the same time the simplicity of the homesteading life. I at times get attracted to the gear and movies (like I can't wait to watch the movie Homestead)

@@HomesteadReliance I've never even heard of the movie "Homestead" is it coming to theaters or Netflix or someplace else? We both enjoy some of the prepping stuff as well. We don't go hugely overboard, or at least we don't think so, we just make sure we have back ups to stuff.

it's from Angel studios and it's coming to some select theaters. One in Harrison is going to have it. I'm going to wait for stream or DVD. We are the same with backups as the mantra from the military is always there " two is one, and one is none". here is the link to the movie and TH-cam has some trailers too www.angel.com/movies/homestead

Lightning hit a tree 90 feet from where I was standing outside our cabin the other day. Was so bright and so loud my ears were ringing for hours.

The other day I heard lightning right after the flash. It was danger close. That can be scary! At least I was inside. Glad you're ok.

Im off grid with solar which is not reliable..we rely on fuel for the generator when the batteries are dead for solar.. Is hard work.. Not easy..

    • @HomesteadReliance
      @HomesteadReliance  24 วันที่ผ่านมา

It is definitely a lot of work to be off grid and solar can be tricky! We had to double our battery capacity that we had at our old homestead to make it through winter. The good thing in the ozarks we have a lot more sun in winter than Wisconsin had. Without our huge battery bank we would need a generator. We get a lot of wind and were looking at a wind generator too in the future.

either way the only way to prep or homestead is work towards being dept free

Your are right on all your points. But being self sufficient is a fantasy unless your the top 1 percent who can afford to buy all the stuff you really need. I am around amish everyday they are not self sufficient and they are as close to self sufficient people we have today. TH-cam preppers and off grid people are content creators nothing more take there money and TH-cam away they disappear. You are a logical person not like other channels . This is not addressed to you . Just my opinion only.

Wrong, it’s possible to be self sufficient. I know how to grow 100% of my own food. I don’t need electricity or internet either it’s an unnecessary luxury

    • @HomesteadReliance

Yes and know. I know some subsistence homesteaders who do it and trade for what they can't produce. I would not want to live like that though. As stated in the video I like some items that we can't make and some luxuries (solar and battery so we live like regular Americans) It's possible but I would not want to struggle that much. I agree Most content creators do it for the view. I would not do TH-cam at all if I did not like it. I could make more money selling firewood to campers and take less time. We limit what we need. It's been two weeks and we are making a Walmart run this week. I "want" ice cream, Starbucks cafe mocha in a jug, half and half (when we have guest that don't want goat milk for their coffee) and some more comfort food. Thanks for calling me a logical person! Always like chatting with like minded people on here!

I agree with this but would not want to live like that. We like our little luxuries.
