What's the rush? You're going to be there for many years, take it easy and enjoy the process, don't get burned out

This is true and I know it now. I feel like I'm in a rush for no reason. Thanks I needed to hear this!

When I worked for a builder we took all the trees down with in 30 feet of a new building. But the more trees you take the more wind which can make more tree come down in a storm but at least not on your buildings . Maybe put some steel beams for under your office . You might find some used on marketplace. The overhang is way to much on that wagon those beams look spliced not good. One last thing sometimes it’s better to pay someone if you get hurt doing it yourself the money on hiring someone would have been worth it just make sure they are insured. I am like you do it all but you pull your back out then you are really behind. No need to get it all done in a day your there hopefully for years to come.Good luck 👍 just my opinion your a smart guy !

Thanks for the advice! You are right about the overhang! I get scared and amazed when I go under this building as to how it was designed. Never seen anything like it! It is not very stable at all. I"m temp putting it on cement blocks and contacted a guy that does this for a living to help. Sometimes you have to throw money at a project when it's out of my own scope. I just don't want to shift it wrong and damage the two 7' windows. And I don't want it to fall on me. Thanks again!

I have no problem with your videos being just the way you made this one. No need for fancy editing or gimmicks. Just be yourself, and film the way you are most comfortable with. As far as that studio sinking, maybe pull it out and pour a slab with embedded anchors. I guess it depends on your budget. Probably cheapest to just make more piers. Anyway, Happy New Year!

Thanks, I appreciate the encouragement, and the ideas! It definitely got me thinking about the slab idea! I have contacted a guy that does this for a living to help. Sometimes I have to know my limitations. It's getting more wobbly and a safety risk. I'm going to at least temp put it on cement blocks if I can. Thanks and happy new year!

You've got this! But it doesn't need to all be done tomorrow. Life is about the journey , not the destination .

100% true! I have been trying to do everything as quick as possible since my wife is still working and I feel a bit guilty for not working.

I like the style of today’s video. Enjoy watching the work being done around the property and your recreation times. I like seeing how and hearing why you do things; even if I know how to do them. I, also, like seeing start-finish projects; not just the beginning and then the ending. (I like the whole story.)
The only critique I would give is with your last video which jumped a lot on screen. Made my eyes feel like they wanted to cross. Your speaking was fine and didn’t “jump”; but the edited video picture itself did. Maybe you thought you explained too much and cut it? I don’t mind longer explanations.
Overall, I like everything you do. Keep up the good work.

I appreciate your feedback! I'll keep that in mind for future videos. I think I was moving a lot and cut out some of my rambling so the transitions were very noticeable visually. I tend to ramble a lot. I will keep that in mind and maybe not cut out my rambling! Thanks again for the feedback! It really does help!

We are looking at adding another 20 acres as a buffer. It's crazy how fast this wilderness area is being developed ! Pour some footers with 6 by 6 posts?

That is a great idea. I'm in contact with someone that does this and doing something interim too. You will never regret having some extra land! We think about that too.

at work we attached a magnet sweeper to the back of a golf cart so it would sweep every time it was used

That's a great idea! I may have to try that! I'm amazed at how many nails and screws I have found. Lots of wood with nails still in them. It will be a constant battle.

I’m very interested in your tornado shelter. Coming from rural central Illinois which is a small tornado alley I’m paranoid about this. Something I learned…
Slow is fast and fast is slow. Also, style, well just be authentic. I watch some YT channels where the person never talks.

    • @HomesteadReliance
      @HomesteadReliance  7 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

Yes so true! "Slow is fast and fast is slow."! Yes the shelter is a peace of mind since we have no basement and they do get tornados here. It will be 6-8" thick with rebar. Hope to also use as a root cellar but it's probably not going to be deep enough.

Our 2025 resolution is the same as our 2024 resolution, which is to get this place cleaned up. We inherited the place and all the piles of stuff that were on it. To be fair, I've found some pretty cool stuff in those piles, but most of it is junk. Added to that, we had it logged and now we have tree tops that need to be cut and cleared. Our storm shelter is built onto the end of the house. The downstairs, back of the house is built into the hillside and on one end is a cement block room that has a cement ceiling. We walk into it from our living room, it has a second door that opens to the lower porch. We have only gone into it to "hunker down" once, with our pets etc. Mike and I both love to watch and listen to the storms, so most of the time, when the big storms roll in, we are out on the porch. Tomorrow is looking like we may have some severe weather. I hope you can find a way to stabilize your studio (and that you film the process). Happy New Year!

It is so great to hear your plans! Keep up the good work! Yea I keep getting flat tires and cleaning the mess that was left here. It's getting better. I wish they left some other stuff. when we first looked at the property there was all kinds of cool stuff. I guess they got a dumpster and tossed it all and dropped sharp metal things all over doing it. I was hoping they would have left it and we said they could but they already hired someone to toss it all. We thought long and hard how to make the shelter attached to the house and financially there was no good way to do it. I plan on running electric to the shelter for a dehumidifier and lights. We only plan on going in it at the last resort but will be glad it is there. I contacted a guy that does foundations for cabins so I may have to get help on this one. I will film it though. I'm working in the studio now and every time I move I feel it move. I"m running to town to get a bottle jack so I can at least put it temp on some cement blocks

Yea lots of little projects that are a pain! The building is slowly slanting forward. The Tree I just took down could have held it from tipping over if it goes to that! ha ha
