I use to live off grid for 21 yrs, and moved back to Vancouver Island, BC 10 yrs ago. I'm 81 ,and while still in reasonably good shape for my age, the weather in the interior of BC got a little too harsh in the winter. Feeding cattle, horses, and other farm animal at minus 30 degrees for two to three weeks got to be a bit too much for me. However, I loved living there, and miss it a lot. I wish we would have moved there when i was in my mid twenties. Now we are about 20 minutes from the city, and I hate it. We do live on a 5 acre organic farm , which we bought. Fortunately , it's all small farms here. Everything we grow is organic. Even our horses, sheep chickens, dogs and cats are raised organically. We still live mostly like were off the grid. So. I will leave you with this. If you are into it, buy some acreage and move off the grid. Have a good woman or man to share it with, and you must get along. That is not to say you aren't going to have your differences , but having the occasional time out you'll realize it was nothing, really. Take care, always, and be prepared. The world has changed. and has gone a little crazy. Protect and love one another.
Wow, I really appreciate you sharing that w us on here, I'm glad you have a great life! I live 20mins from town amd and hour from Walmart and the bigger town, but I would love to go off grid completely! I hope you akd yours continue being amazing and have many blessings! Merry Christmas ❤💚
@@karmasmith3387 Thank you sooo much for the wonderful reply. We lived an hour from walmart, which is in Williams Lake, BC and about half an hour from the little town of Horse Fly , BC, population , 800 including the surrounding areas. LOL, Horsefly is a town where if you don't hear a rumor, start one yourself. We didn't socialise too much, but we did make a few close friends. Small towns have a way of trying to get into your life, not good. We did have our problems with some of the people, almost like the couple in this video. However, we survived, and are grateful for the fantastic life of living off grid. You have to be strong, and dedicated. If you ever have the opportunity to live off grid then go for it. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and yours. Always, Santino.
Do you have internet capabilities? I'm in a rural area bout 20 mins from the small town amd an hour from the bigger towns akd we JUST got internet. My cell phone barely worked till we got that internet ran off our power lines so how are you guys getting internet I'm curious?🫶🏻
@@karmasmith3387I’m in an area where the internet on my phone works great but I don’t use a desk top computer or laptop presently… I don’t see why I wouldn’t be able to use my phones hot spot…. That internet service by Elon musk apparently works good everywhere but it’s so pricey and dodgy as far as I’m concerned… you gotta find out if Verizon or t mobile is offering internet if your phone isn’t receiving internet well. Or if it is and the hot spot doesn’t work. Those are cheaper than the musk service. I think it’s called star link. I am only thirty minutes away from a small town with a library that has computers and if I want to do stuff on a computer, I go there. And I go there at least a couple times a month to get mail. But, if you don’t have a similar situation… you may need to get starlink. Again, that’s dodgy. The company is a dodgy company but the service works. I get it, but you should know what you are getting into. Like being spied on or worse. And at a premium price. At least of t mobile is cooperating with spying or worse, you aren’t paying a premium price for it.
Wonderful show. I love how he repurpses and is creative. He obviously loves what he is doing. She is a lucky woman. I have always felt healthiest and whole in nature.
The way the world is going they may be Way ahead of the curve because For the first time in My Lifetime I can say that WE ARE NOT SAFE AND THE GOVERNMENT DOES NOT CARE ABOUT US AND I WOULD ALMOST SAY THAT THEY ARE ACTIVELY CULLING US.
Organization is critical for living off grit, keeping your home in good working order, clean and organized. I did not see counters and how they prepare and can food. A lot of people believe that living off grit is just an excuse for hoarding junk outside and living without any responsibility, when that happens, no respect is given to you. A lot of people see preppers and off grit living as that.
"Thats where all the magic happens " 😂😅💩☠️. Love how he's upcycling and cohabiting with the land. Stewardship mentality is what so many are missing to stay connected to the land. Great video thanks for sharing your home with us!❤
I would love to come visit in summer. I rarely see people in my home state. I live in lower Michigan. What an incredible place to live. We had smelt as kids, I hated them . Thanks for this cool video!!
Get some buddies, dig up the broken culvert and replace it. Likewise, dig up the broken courdoriy road pieces and replace them and put more dirt down. If your side by side has a winch, you can dig some and pull out what you need to pull out. I had to repair my dirt driveway and it was a lot of work. Had to get creative where I got more dirt. Didn’t steal it from anyone but got it free. Just had a wheelbarrow and a snow sled. Took me weeks but I got it done. 67 year old retired nurse with limited resources but I’m resourceful. I live on the edge of a Wilderness area in the Adirondack mountains.
I'm living off grid. I haul my water in and my garbage and waste out. I pressure can my food. I have no fridge or freezers. I am not allowed to have gardens or animals so everything must be bought from the store or farmers markets. I have a tiny 100 watt Harbor Freight solar system for power. I'm almost 64 years old female with 1 working arm and 1 working leg right now I'm on crutches. Its just me and my old dog, Sadie. This spring I'll be building my water catchment and filtering system. And below it will be an outdoor kitchen and laundry washing area. I have sinks to put in it and blue food safe barrels. I have 100 ft of stainless steel clothesline from tree to tree. I'm hoping to enlarge my solar too. But I get by just fine.
Have you thought of building another huge log barnlife shed right beside your donestic canin to house all your equipment ( huge or small) to store in so it doesn’t appear so trashy on your grounds! And maybe another on the other side of your domestic cabin to house all your animals n hens at night with their own day run out towards the woods and do a thin high fenced RUN ALL AROUND ALL OF YOUR DWELLINGS FOR THE DOGS TO GUARD RUN ALL AROUND YOUR BUILDINGS WITH A LOCKABLE RUN ACROSS YOUR DRIVEWAY THAT YOU CAN CONNECT AT NIGHT ALL ENCLOSED TOP AS WELL!!!! That would give you a solid predator freee CABIN RUNS!
I left Scottsdale in 2021 as an AZ native. I almost went to the U.P. Instead, I bought 80 acres in the Ozarks of Missouri. A bit less remote and not really off grid myself. Yet I'm 4 miles to the pavement and 30 minutes to the nearest Wal-Mart. I love it here. I do miss some of those creature comforts i had un Scottsdale especially when it comes to food. Interesting place he has there. I have 2 litter mate dogs that are 75% Great Pyrenees and 25% Caucasian shepherd. Very similar dogs to his Central Asian Shepherds. The reason I looked at the UP was i wanted to learn to snowmobile. I have a polaris here for a OTV and a 4 wheeler. Not enough snow to snowmobile for me. The locals should be better stewards with the ATV trails, and maybe they'd be treated better like the trail system for snowmobiles.
We are from Northern Michigan & now in Missouri Ozarks near West Plains. You made a wise choice! Our Pyrenees just passed away. Best most wonderful companion dogs ever. Now too old for any more new pets.
@bradrock7731 sorry to hear that about your pup. I am a person who can't live without a dog. I don't know what I'll do if I ever have to go into a nursing home and not have my companions w me. God bless!
Its a shame how some people were raised. The buy a side by side, dirt bike whatevet and dont own their land. They think theyre entitled to ride where they want. The world owes them.
Love this story because I’m originally from Los Angeles and I got far out but wanna get further out people seem to think we can’t change our lives but we can.
Love the CAS, I have 2 girls I got for protection from predator neighbors, letting me know when someone is stalking the property line. they are the most huggable teddy bears. Good with livestock. Stay safe
I am incredibly impressed at your set up and how you know every detail to keep things good, wish I was there. As a non American where do you stand if someone gets killed riding their joy buggies and hitting a pothole/rut caused by other joy riders on your land. Seems if you responsible that there is a perfect reason to close the roads
Yeah, I was curious about the bathroom/Shower situation, how they financially support their needs. Also, I didn’t hear about any kids, who is the land going to be left to? I would sell all but like ten acres at least, too much land to monitor.
Also, people today do not reproduce. Not only do they have no one to leave the land to, they also have to do all the farm work themselves because there’s no one else in the family. It seems that in this case, these two met late in life. But ideally anyone wanting to farm or homestead should have a sizeable family to help with chores. That’s how it was in the past.
These are good folk simply wanting to be left alone and I totally desire for them the peace and happiness they have found with nature and within themselves.
This is such a cool show because I’m really interested in upper Peninsula, Michigan and upper areas of Wisconsin where people can live like this instead of going all the way to Alaska. This looks amazing.
80 acres is very impressive but unless you're at a no zone location authorities are able to dictate how you live. Living off grid gives us consumers a freedom the banks and utility companies never wanted us to have so any oversight on our part will be harshly dealt with. I use to say living off grid is not for everyone but if you're capable of distributing a briefcase full of money to the bank or landlord, electric, gas and water company every thirty days you'll probably be fine living off grid with a different but much smaller levels of stress🥴
That was very interesting, I watched it till the end. What a likable couple Loo and Perry are. I think people see the woods & the cabin and want that life, but most of us of are too lazy & soft to live that way. These people are willing to work for it and I will pray for their protection.
My dog circles my house leaving his scent. I had squirrel problems in my attic until I got him. I’m hoping it’s his scent that are keeping them away. I live on the edge of a large wilderness area and feel safer with him living with me. I take him everywhere with me. I spoil him.
I have lived in the country on the same place since the 60s last few years people have been filling up the country. My point I’m getting to is some of these ole boys/hunters go bat shit crazy when outsiders move in and start closing off roads and land they have been hunting on for years. I’ve had my share of trouble with them over the years
its a shame the disrespect but you are making it work, its hard for owners moving to any properties where people were use to having freedoms of doing whatever they wished without consequence then you become the enforcer to protect property and privacy, and that's not popular but necessary, I am thankful I am not dealing with this, just other misconceptions of the off grid lifestyle, stay strong, hopefully things will become more peaceful for you all.
Thank you for the interview. This gentleman seems so genuine (along with his gal). It seemed like you tried hard to work with the 4 x 4 people but, you can’t fix some that have no common sense. They are destroying and disrespectful of the nature they are riding in. Take care folks. People watching here are on your side. P.S. looking at the turtle with the cracked shell was upsetting. If only others cared as much as you both. Hugs from CA.
People should not only have the Freedom to Live on their property the way they want but We should be ENCOURAGED because when Crap hits the fan and supplies to grocery stores is compromised WE ARE THE PEOPLE WHO WILL FEED YOU AND TEACH YOU HOW TO FEED YOURSELF. GOVERNMENT IS AFRAID OF PEOPLE WHO DON’T DEPEND ON THEM YET THEY CAN’T CONTROL DEBT. ALLOW PEOPLE TO RAISE AND EAT HEALTHY FOODS AND SEE THE NEED FOR PHARMACEUTICALS AND GENERAL SICKNESSES GO DOWN.

Loo and Perry I'm with you guys Im looking for land to go semi off grid for above 3 years then off grid. Love to hunt fish camp hike explore and raise animals and grow fruit trees gardens and medicinal herb gardens. Brother stand your ground and you can make it with loo and friends like myself and my wife helping out. We all need help from each other. I will contact you and maybe you can give me some advice about off grig etc...
I fill bad for you,it will take time for these younger people being a problem, after A while they will have to work for A living, and hope they will have to leave the area to work ,be safe .😊
. The simple life does not mean an easy life. Cutting, splitting and hauling firewood to keep your cabin warm in Northern Michigan isnt an option. If you dont have enough wood, you'll freeze to death. I bet that outhouse is cold in January, and you better have a turd touching cotton before you head out there in a blizzard.
I live off grid in northern az… I have a lower end orig Delta 1 eco flow that keeps an electric blanket going at night. Works great… we do get low temps down into the teens, but usually only for a few hours in the early morn… I’ll say the concern for hypothermia is higher in other places… I rely on that blanket because it uses only about 60% of my battery at most. I have a woodstove and I do pay for wood… 350 a cord … my stove does not ‘simmer’ for long but I load it up before I go to bed and let it burn out… I used to wake up and try to keep it going, but now I just burn at night as the days are mostly warm and my place is mostly comfy during day or I’m outside working on the garden or projects… I do feel I spend a lot of time keeping up with the fire… but, it’s not that bad living this lifestyle. I want to start collecting and cutting my own firewood, which will take more time, yes… but I think of it as going on a hike for scenic experience &exercise like many people I know do… but instead of just hiking, I come home with firewood… however, I’m going to plant regenerative trees that can be cut down for firwoid but will grow back … I’ve had trees that once mature, were cut down to the ground, then grew back to huge in three years. It was a thornless mesquite. One of the better choices for creating a firewood source on one’s property. Willow and poplars are good for that as well… but I like the mesquites. With all that said, it really isn’t all THAT hard once you have things in place. And it’s not that expensive to get there, even if you pay others to set stuff up. But even more cheap if you can do a lot of diy building. People make things out to be hard, but it’s not. It’s only hard if you are DIY ing from scratch… that part is a little more challenging. But out in the world… it’s a never ending cycle of soul sucking work more so than anything.
Tip for the TH-cam channel. I was trying to enjoy your video, it seems interesting. But with all the dog barking in video it gets my dog barking. I’m sure others have same issue, might hurt your viewed time in videos. I was only able to watch a few minutes. Just a heads up.
Now I’m sure that man would still be in hollyweird if he wanted to hear what you can do and can not do , when you can mow your lawn and wash your car and wen you can have your car in your driveway!! Gotta love HOA’S .. BIGGER THING CONGRATS YOU GOT OUT OF HELL AND NOT HAVE TO SALE YOUR SOUL!!
Who are "They"? Is it the local government? 🤔 Neighbors? If your life is being threatened for real they should have legal recourse. I'm guessing there is a bit more to this story then is presented here in the video, which to be honest I didn't watch all the way through. So it it states all the answers to those questions, excuse me.
Got to admit you moved from CA. and then shut down 4 wheeler dirt roads the locals used for years, ive heard argument that 4 wheelrs destroy dirt but Ive never seen any real damage, we rode 4 wheelers in PA. on anybodys land because bqack then everyone believed it was Gods land and our fellow brothers should enjoy it to. Never once littered and due to no cops anywhere, we never had to ditch our beer cans, always brought them back out.
connect with the sideby side guys. offer them to a cookout. show them the farm a lil. connect with them they will fix the roads and respect the lands. when people feel threatened in any manner they become harsh. first threaten to them is they cant ride and have fun no more. other threat is someone telling them they cant be there even when they are not allowed to be there. and what ever type of threat. BUT connect with them and you will gain friends and people to help fix the roads. a lil dirt and rocks can go a long way. i have fixed many roads and repairs to ride atvs. always respect the land as a rider cause our machines are stirring things up. but its been proven in woods that didnt have atv trails the woods was dying. after guys made trails cleaned up the woods few years later the woods was thriving and strong. cause it was moving water around and air getting into the soil from being stirred up.
It's okay to live off the grid and live your dream but in looking at the video it's terribly messy so why if you want to live in nature do you not take care of it I mean it's you've got crap everywhere it just doesn't make sense
I. Would. Love. It. How dare people s say i will burn your. Home down. How would u like it if you was told that. How dare u say something like that thats like u A re saying u will hurt them u are soo wrong
"Pristine environment" but his property looks like a junk yard ... Those recreational vehicles keep businesses open in the U.P. .. Judging by how aggressive those dogs are maybe the UTV riders were being attacked and they obviously have no problems I'm sure not going 25 mph on snowmobiles enjoying the trail systems others take care of for them to enjoy... Live how you want but don't be a hypocrite either...
Yep, some of these ole country boys go bat shit crazy when an outsider moves in and closes off roads and land they have been using and hunting on for years.
I respect anyone actually trying to live!! Government doesn't like people being self sufficient..
They have wanted us to rely on them and become their property and slaves but we have the constitution and our amendments and bill of rights etc and Trump coming home to the White House 🇺🇸 2024

My dog circles my house leaving his scent. I had squirrel problems in my attic until I got him. I’m hoping it’s his scent that are keeping them away. I live on the edge of a large wilderness area and feel safer with him living with me. I take him everywhere with me. I spoil him.
They sound like the nicest people not cool being mean ffs probably get along with everyone
We are not getting the whole story here I suspect. There are folks living back in the woods all over the UP who have no problems with neighbors.
I have lived in the country on the same place since the 60s last few years people have been filling up the country. My point I’m getting to is some of these ole boys/hunters go bat shit crazy when outsiders move in and start closing off roads and land they have been hunting on for years. I’ve had my share of trouble with them over the years
Shawn James, well known canadian outdoor man also had so many Problems with a neighbour that he even sold his property and left
its a shame the disrespect but you are making it work, its hard for owners moving to any properties where people were use to having freedoms of doing whatever they wished without consequence then you become the enforcer to protect property and privacy, and that's not popular but necessary, I am thankful I am not dealing with this, just other misconceptions of the off grid lifestyle, stay strong, hopefully things will become more peaceful for you all.
The real Beverly hillbillies the UP is the place you want to be so we packed up the family
That's a cool looking cabin.
40 years ago this wasn’t called homesteading it was called life.
Youve gained a new sub😅❤
I wish them well. I could live off grid but this place is such a dark mess and I could not live there.
The dog’s ears are cropped, so in a fight with predators, they don’t bleed out and die.
I have 2.
People keep asking who they are that you speak of. Those of us who have had to deal with there nonsense. We know very well who ,( They are
Well, who are they? Trespassers, government?
Awesome place to live
People should not only have the Freedom to Live on their property the way they want but We should be ENCOURAGED because when Crap hits the fan and supplies to grocery stores is compromised WE ARE THE PEOPLE WHO WILL FEED YOU AND TEACH YOU HOW TO FEED YOURSELF. GOVERNMENT IS AFRAID OF PEOPLE WHO DON’T DEPEND ON THEM YET THEY CAN’T CONTROL DEBT. ALLOW PEOPLE TO RAISE AND EAT HEALTHY FOODS AND SEE THE NEED FOR PHARMACEUTICALS AND GENERAL SICKNESSES GO DOWN.
where do get money to buy things from ???????? thanks
Dog feed and other feeds aren't cheap.
@@maegardnermills4292 but do you work like the rest of us

Super Thanks is a way for the viewer to support the video creator who has spent much time and gas traveling to locations and much time editing and producing the videos you watch.
Markjack. It's GRID.
Do things Gods way abd youll always be protected and God created the Dogs for our protection, like the lady says .
Smart man 👍🏻 It’s good he found a woman to be there with him. I’m 70. If I were younger I would love to live like this 🤍 We do have 6 chickens though 😂

FACTS
We did back to land back in 70s, in Michigan ! We are now divorced😂!
They got no business on his property
It is usually people who have never had to work hard for anything , not raised to respect others , or spoiled brats .
They feel entitled to be on his land.
You can take the boy out of the city but you can't take the city out of the boy ~🤠
Actually he does have the atypical lifestyle with atypical power, etc... atypical means different.
"....Living the dream...."!!!!
Do Perry and Lou have their own channel?
They don't have their own channel as far as I know.
Yes solar system the name of it ( gold zero )
Tip for the TH-cam channel. I was trying to enjoy your video, it seems interesting. But with all the dog barking in video it gets my dog barking. I’m sure others have same issue, might hurt your viewed time in videos. I was only able to watch a few minutes. Just a heads up.
Thanks for the tip, I'll keep it in mind!
Awe, thank God my dogs didn’t bark. The WORST is the stupid commercials with a doorbell ringing…drives my dogs crazy & me too! 😂
@ I’ve missed out on a lot of good videos because of dogs barking, even roosters crowing has caused a fit. LoL
❤
I love larger dogs
That is his land, his peoperty and his decision, right!
Times change. People lack consideration for other peoples property these days.
moved BACK home to land his grandfather bought after WW2. Been in his family longer than the ATV boys have been alive.
Oh and does "enjoying the land" have to involve killing the property owners dog? They made the issues with this property owner.
The anti firearms stance probably doesn't bode well with the neighbors either.
connect with the sideby side guys. offer them to a cookout. show them the farm a lil. connect with them they will fix the roads and respect the lands. when people feel threatened in any manner they become harsh. first threaten to them is they cant ride and have fun no more. other threat is someone telling them they cant be there even when they are not allowed to be there. and what ever type of threat.
They killed Loo's dog racing on their property. The side by side guys destroyed any chance of a relationship with this couple.
Holy smokes, get a camera that can focus
The place looks like a dump but its theirs. Live and let live.
Ducks like slugs too
It's okay to live off the grid and live your dream but in looking at the video it's terribly messy so why if you want to live in nature do you not take care of it I mean it's you've got crap everywhere it just doesn't make sense
I. Would. Love. It. How dare people s say i will burn your. Home down. How would u like it if you was told that. How dare u say something like that thats like u A re saying u will hurt them u are soo wrong
Just rely on God's judgement of you not the world's judgement
"Pristine environment" but his property looks like a junk yard ... Those recreational vehicles keep businesses open in the U.P. .. Judging by how aggressive those dogs are maybe the UTV riders were being attacked and they obviously have no problems I'm sure not going 25 mph on snowmobiles enjoying the trail systems others take care of for them to enjoy... Live how you want but don't be a hypocrite either...
It’s his land he can do what he likes as long as it doesn’t do harm to anyone else.
Yep, some of these ole country boys go bat shit crazy when an outsider moves in and closes off roads and land they have been using and hunting on for years.
