    You’re making actual movies out of camera reviews. It’s the reason I own and *love* my X-Pro3, and it’s what sets you apart on the platform. Love your creativity and artistry bro. I also totally agree with the assertion that aesthetics, build quality and feel contribute to the whole experience of photographing.

    This video articulates why I own a Sony, but now want to own a Fuji and will likely in the future. The X-T series are just a joy to look at, push buttons on, and make art. And, whatever "character" cameras and lenses can have these days, Fuji is at least pursuing _something_ vs pursuing the cleanest image at 1 billion ISO. GxAce, if the Leica M6 inspires you to shoot great photos, then by these examples it's working.

    I think what is a quintessential camera will differ from person to person. To me it a Pentax K1000. Affordable, produced for many many decades, iconic. Found in the hands of amateurs, photography students, professionals, enthusiasts, and everything in-between. In this case I do think a camera is just a tool. K1000 was made to be everything to everybody, and for many years it was. Incredibly simple, reliable. It was made to just work. And you also get a selection of Pentax lenses from the period, most of which are extraordinary.
    Just like you and Leica, I have that connection with Pentax. It was my first film camera I learned to shoot with. I still have it. I don't shoot anymore, or not very often at least. But it's still part of what my life is, and has been. It left a mark in my memories that I cherish like everything else.

    The Leica M6 is for all that have not tried the M7. Auto exposure, Exposure lock, and Shutter Speed on the viewfinder are just some of my reasons the M7 rules the M6. The M6 is just like the Contax T2 or T3, it has been over glorified by youtubers and other photographers. I too lusted over the M6 and one day I walked into my local camera store and found a Black M7 on the display case. At first I discarded it because like everyone else I thought that the Leica M6 was the only one to buy until I tried the M7 at the store and was convinced instantly that the M7 is far superior than the M6. I purchased it immediately and have not been disappointed. This may be my personal taste but the extra feature have come in more than handy in my photography.

    • @GxAce
      @GxAce  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Technically I too would prefer the M7, if it weren't for it needing a battery to work. Aperture priority is my preferred way of shooting, but I'd rather not have to deal with batteries if I'm taking it on a trip.

    • @jebeq2007
      @jebeq2007 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GxAce The M7 batteries last a minimum of 1yr. I honestly have no problem with that and it's a great trade of for all the features it has to offer. It also shoots 1/60 and 1/125 with no battereis in case you need to. The shutter speed on the view finder alone is such an advantage to have and it keeps you from constantly chimping at your shutter speed dial. But if the M6 makes you happy nothing I say matters.

    Some of these photos are terrific. And I like the liminal feel to some parts of this video. And I agree totally with your point: cameras matter, and serious photographers (and cinematographers) know it.
    I regret saying this, but film is going to have its pants beaten in terms of DR if Kodak does not develop new, more capable emulations. Already, digital can do everything that film can, if you know what you're doing and you don't shoot like an NPC.

    Please do the Fujifilm X-H2S. I've been waiting for only you to make a video about it so i can make my decision to buy it or not. Nothing beats your in depth short films.

    9:23 "The Leica camera will be a heirloom in my family" adopt me, Casey! he he, j/k. The phrase is not meant to you, it is precisely for those that aren't patient enough to understand their tools until they turn them into pens to express themselves. They will painfully purchase the next hyped smartphone, or the treasured Leica, lying to themselves that the famous camera is doing better photos. On Sunday I person shared photos with his iPhone, whose horizon was unintentionally unleveled, that the photos are natural because they have no editing, and I don't check many Leica galleries because I see the same attitude, they are testing tools set by engineers far away, but they are not seen in the photo. I can see you in these photos. (Edit: these terms, now I recall Ken Rockwell had an article about it, like finding your signature)

    I love hands down all your videos, these awesome small visual essays filled with atmosphere and thoughts on reasonable usage of gear. Just feel recently when you started using the helmet and distorted voice a bit irritated, like this might be a bit too much and distracts the flow?

    If you can try an M3 give it a shot. Shooting 50mm on it is so fun because I can shoot it with both eyes open. It feels like having some overlay on my vision of what 50mm is
