I guess im randomly asking but does anyone know a method to get back into an Instagram account? I stupidly lost my account password. I love any tricks you can offer me.
I had an M6 for almost a year before selling it 2 months ago. It's a great camera but way overhyped and overpriced. I like shooting with different cameras so I couldn't justify owning a $2000 that I only used like once a month. I even like using my FM2n more.
The reason to shoot a Leica M6 is to shoot Leica lenses (as many people say). I personally prefer the M2, M3, and M4. The M2 being my main camera for last 6 years and hasn't skipped a beat. But if you need a meter M6 is the way to go or a Konica Hexar RF, which I have and love.
I purchased my M6 around 2010 in mint condition for 1000 Euro. Back then film was not so popular as today and analog camera not so expansive. Lucky me i also bought: Ricoh GR 1s, Rollei 35 afm, rollei qz 35 t, Leica C3, Leica Minilux, Olympus XA, Leica M4, Leica M4-P - all cameras way cheaper than today.
Not sure why anyone would use an M6 with out a Leica lens, but more power to ya. You are correct in the fact that it will not make you a better photographer. Back in the old days (early 90's), I shot a Pentax ME Super with a Ricoh 50mm f1.8 lens that my professor swore was a Leica lens. Maybe I should try to find that combo again?
I feel like when i got an m6 my photos got better, but after thinking about it I was for sure excited to use it, and loved using it as it feels so good to use so defintely did what you said... " wanted to get out and shoot more, forces you to practice and become a better photographer" so thats super true. Shame that cost 3k hahaha
That was my first "legit" camera. Still own it, the film advance is so tight, the sound when you fire it is crisp, great lenses of course. I dont use it much anymore but I can't sell it lol
Ditto. The cockroach of cameras. It will survive a nuclear blast. Still have mine from new. Sold it to a friend - she took it to Mt Everest - I bought it back from her. So mine has been to Everest and back.
My main 35mm camera as well. No idea why i would ever need anything else for 35mm - its robust, has a nice light meter and is fairly small with the pencake 50mm 1.8 which is also just an outstanding lens. Its a workhorse...
That Ken Rockwell burn though 😂!! But as to the M6, as I hobbyist I just can't justify the price when a Pentax MX is good enough for me. If photography was my living it'd be a different story though... Also wouldn't a cheap M-mount body with Leica glass make more sense than an M6 with a cheap non-Leica lens?
Hi dude, thanks for sharing. I had a m6 and sold it. Just kept the lenses. It never felt right for me and I just hate the film loading procedure. I was used to work on a Voigtlander and I still find it way superior for my kind of use. It may be more fragile, and feels a bit less resistant, but definitely cheaper. Also i had the feeling that when I am shooting with a leica on the streets everybody is staring at me, it attracts way too much attention, which it shouldn't
a solid confusion i find in people's heads about the m6 is that both M6 & M6 TTL has TTL meterings throught the lens, while the TTL has only TTL Flash more other than bigger shutter dial. They are basically the same camera TTL are for sure built more recently, as some late m6 serials
I owned a number of Leicas. M4-2 with motors, Leica CL 50th Anniversary edition((film) M3 and more, all with lenses. I don't have any now. But, I always had the desire for an M5. Yes, it was bigger, but a favorite. But, I wanted to use polarizing filters, which meant SLR cameras. Leica had a great system for SLR, but very expensive. The rest is history.
I just got my first film camera, and my film comes in later today. Im so happy i found you channel. I absolutely love your humor; your dry humor is right up my alley.
As someone who started shooting before there were viable digital cameras, hell my second camera was a Nikon F3 (in many ways a better tool for general photography than any leica) the thing that makes Leica M cameras more than their lenses is that at the time it was the smallest fully manual 35mm camera and it was very quiet compared to a SLR, so if you were shooting in the streets and wanted to go unnoticed that was and still is only choice, it was discreet. The rest of it was splitting hairs. Today if you want to be discreet and are shooting digital in the street than the best choice is probably a Ricoh GR, a camera that is small and no one will take you seriously if you point it in their direction. That’s it, it is a quality too it’s nice to shoot with but those two features are what kept that camera in production long after Leica should have killed it in favor of the R system.
Fun video. I’m shooting A 1939 Leica IIIC with accurate shutter speeds and if it ever needs a CLA or repair they are readily available. Same for my M3. They just keep going and going and going. Same for my Nikon S2 and S3. The Nikons do have better shutters.
Mate, if this is the biggest viewfinder you've ever used, you should definitely try the Agfa Optima series. Especially the 1535 Sensor which is the only rangefinder model from this series. It's also called "the other red dot camera" as it's got a red shutter release button and it's a rangefinder made in Germany. ✌
This is literally my first time looking at a photography video and I was like “hey this is nice, might buy it to mess around” and then I saw the price lol
1) because it has a simple working light meter (same concept exactly with 3 LEDs like the Yashica FX-3 since the 70s) 2) it does look good 3) YT'bers are always hyping the M6 only, not mentioning the M5, or M7. 4) Therefore the never ending prices raise.
Though made in Canada instead of Germany, the Leica M4-P is the same as the M6, minus the TTL light meter. In other words, zinc top and bottom plates and steel inner gears. Both have the same frame lines. The M4-P can be had for about $1500 less than the M6. Just putting it out there.
The M4-P was all brass- the ones that have the recessed viewfinders/ on the frontside . The late model flush frontside viewfinder models are zinc top plates, like the M6.
I have an M6TTL, wanted it for years. Like anything once you get something you realise that the wanting was always more than the owning. That being Said. I’ve used it for years. It never fails, I’ve dropped it, soaked it, bumped it and it keeps on going.
I completely get it, super well-built, fully mechanical camera with ttl lightmeter and a super nice and compact form factor - I love the pentax mx as well :D
I'm still using a Pentax MX that I bought in 1978. Greatest 35mm SLR ever. Three things I can't live without: 0.97x magnification viewfinder, DOF preview, shutter cocked indicator (was Pentax the only one to ever include this essential feature?).
I bought a 35/2 IV mm bokehwonder from 1994 around 2010 in mint condition at a official Leica photo dealer for only 800 Euro. Today it costs way over 2.000 Euro. Unbelievable!
Hey! Don't talk shit about the M5. For my money the shutterspeed dial setup on the M5 and the strap lugs on the side make it a goddamn joy to shoot with. She's a bigger ~girl~ camera but a lot of fun to dance with .
If someone has an urge to get an M6, get the non-TTL version. When the board goes in the TTL, you're SOL, but with the plain old M6 you can keep in in good repair indefinitely. So far as the lens cap's concerned, if you have it on the camera it won't meter--something easily discovered with the non-TTL version as well..
Plus the "TTL" part of M6 TTL refers to flash control - both the M6 and M6 TTL have through the lens metering for normal exposures. So if you don't need the TTL Flash control don't bother.
Felt hesitant clicking on this video at first but if there's anyone that I'd listen to talk about a camera it would be Jason. Had a good chuckle, loved the images at 2:47!
I bought my first M6 when they came out at a special price direct from Leica. And, my main reason was “great, an M4 with a meter.” I used that camera for about 15 years and it did everything that I expected a Leica to do. It was not an M3/M2/M4 or even an M5 in built quality. The rangefinder patch ‘white-out’ because they made the RF one condenser lens less, my film counter failed with the plastic part they used, Zinc was suppose to be lighter and stronger (and cost less and easier to manufacture) and wasn’t sealed properly so there were ‘zinc bubbles,’ steel gears that were suppose to be stronger (and cheaper to make) but was not as tacktile smooth, the original electronics have a failure reputation, and generaly the workmanship/parts were not as well made/finished as the older M-series cameras. The M5 although larger is the better all around camera for built quality and features, and the later MP corrected the problems of the M6. The M6 is a good camera, but I can get along without a built in meter and have settled in with my old M4.
The 1930's era bottom loading on the Leicas really needs to be changed.. When I saw civilian photographers in Viet Nam trying to change film during stressful encounters it made you wanna cry.
I was hoping this would be about the Brownie Hawkeye... even though the title doesn't mention the Brownie Hawkeye. Greatest camera ever made (not really).
The small size of the camera, I would like to add, means it's not a hassle to carry with you when out and about. I keep mine in a small fanny pack. It's portable, quiet, and built to last. As far as image quality goes--it's all about the lens. If you wear glasses, you might want to try a Leica before you drop the money on one. If you wear glasses, you can't see all the frame lines.
It wasn't an M6 but I owned a Leica once, a very old one that my wife found in the bottom of a box she bought at an estate auction. Basically I got mine the same way you got yours except I didn't have to get dirty digging a hole. I don't recall what model mine was but it had two viewfinder, one for framing and another next to it for focusing. It did have that ridiculous need to disassemble the camera to change rolls of film however. Who thought that was a good idea, anyway? Anyhow, mine had the collapsible 50mm lens and I got, like, $400 for it on Ebay. Yay me! My favorite rangefinder is an old Petri 35-something, another auction bargain. No battery but it has a selenium light meter that still works and is remarkably accurate! Petri's, alas, were never paragon of reliability even when new and mine may be the last fully functional example with a working light meter. I never use it, which is why it still works and is also why it is my favorite. If it never takes a picture it will never disappoint me.
A consideration: why not present the images a bit larger? They seemed out of proportion relative to the total screen format. Also a small white passepartout around the images against a black or grey background would make the images stand out more. Great video! Thanks!
The M6 is a great camera, but what I genuinely don't understand is why people choose body over lens when they don't have the cash to spend on a whole M system. I'd rather use an M5 or Hexar as long as I get that sweet Summicron or Summaron quality. Who cares bout your ease of use when your pictures look like dogshit due to Voigtlander vignetting. It's not like shooting with a different M mount is that much of a difference. If that *really* doesn't make you want to go out and shoot... I'm sorry.
@grainydays ..... I would never of dropped a bundle of cash on a Leica, but I was the process of buying the cheapest Leica in the shape of a digital Leica T that is new / old stock at a UK dealer. I'd just bought a TT Artisans 25mm f2 in L mount to go with the T body, and had also bought a £20 LHC prize draw ticket for the prize of an M6 going to that months winner. I missed the live prize draw, and didn’t think anything of it ... 2 weeks later I was reading my emails after getting home from work, I opened up one from LHC only to find that I had won an M6 Titanium.... My only task now is to pick it up, and I'm now hunting for a Voightlander 35mm to start shooting with it, and looking to reduce my GAS induced camera collection to provide the funds .. The Yashica T4 will be the first to go. You can't get a better deal than £20 for a Leica M6 Titanium ... I'm beyond hsppy.

Unless you purchase the M6 with a 0.58 viewfinder like me then it’s perfect with a 35mm Summicron
the lens are also overhyped. theyre not perfect lenses but people just love their flaws because theyre fanboys
The only thing to envy from this video seems to be the gas prices, ugh.
Thanks!
Nah this is the Jason aesthetic...
because then you could see that there is nothing special about them
@@DeeSnow97 Seriously though, white border is becoming a cliche for ultra basic photos
I'm sorry.
I knew you know vuhlandes, maan what a crossover. Happy weeks from now on
I will say after about a year with my m6. I don’t think I’ll ever get rid of it. I love it
Really, the only reason why I knew of Leica was because of Euro Trip (the movie).
Lol, that Holga 120 made my day..
Film photographer from the future here: while Contax didn’t rise from the grave, Pentax did.
Hands down my favourite photography / film channel on youtube
M3 and a voigtlander lightmeter is the GOAT
It's a solid vid n' all, but was there a particular reason for Baxter not being more prominent?
Hey man, just curious about why you're cropping the shots to a non-2:3 ratio?
At minute 7:38 you stumbled onto a really good photograph. Perfect composition!!! Really enjoy your videos.
as soon as i saw caleb among the legends... the like button was pressed
