Agreed. As a sport quad fan , it would come into consideration if we were purchasing other vehicles as well. The fact that Yamaha builds sport ATVs would make us more likely to consider their dirt bikes. Plus the fact that they make great dirt bikes.
Doubtful. The younger crowd prefers sport quads but they have no money, especially being $10k to get in the game. Older crowd has the money but prefers utility machines. I made the transition from a pristine and low hour Honda 400EX 10 years ago (In my mid 30s and I hated to sell it as it was like new but I had no real use for it) to utility quads and I'll probably never go back. The vesatility of being able to switch to 4wd, plow snow, perform property maintenance, gather fire wood w/ lawn cart, a nice ride on the trails AND a much lower price to play? What's not to like?
@@anthonyg6221So true. You get so much more for the money on a utility quad... If they lowered the price on the sports from 10k down to around 6-7k they would probably sell a boat load of them.
I wish I could bottle this comment and take it with me. Twenty years in the business this year. I appreciate all of you who have been listening for a long time.

This may have been done in the past but I’d like to see a raptor 700r with wider a arms and axle vs a stock yfz450R on a Mx track to see the difference in lap times
That will be interesting. People have argued the 850/1000 is too much, but when you do a power to weight, it's really in par with these sport quads. It'll be fun seeing how that ratio plays out in the real world
I picked up a 24 700R in October last year and I love it. I took it to Little Sahara OK and had a blast in the dunes and looking forward to going back. I did the Big 3 in December and I'm ready to go back to the sand. For the Pure Sport and Sport ATV industry its kind of sad that Yamaha is the only manufacture still making quads. The new age of the 1L 4x4 machines is amazing and I though about getting one of those, but to me a small light weight 400lb machine just seems better. I also want to get a 450 this year and try to go to a local track and start racing (back of the pack mind you) as that just seems like the right thing to do ya know. Anyways, props to ATVonDemand for this review, props you Yamaha for continuing to pump out YFZ and Raptors. Maybe oneday we will get some competition again in the sport quad industry and see the revival similar to the early 2000s.
Your Raptor will run much better in the dunes now! We think that there are a lot of people out there that would prefer a lighter weight, Easier to work on and more affordable traditional sport quad. We hope to see a resurgence as well. Good luck in your racing endeavors. Keep us posted.
As a 13 year old who jumped from a yamaha warrior 350 to a yamaha raptor 700R i think its worth every penny (yes i did buy not daddys money) and it is very responsive and controlible and i got used to it in like a few rides so it is very good in control on trails and stuff but on the road at top speed it did get a little loose but other than that it is a very nice atv and very nice ( it is a 2018)
Amazing video, I love when new riders to the Raptor are always "pleasantly surprised " by it. Haha. I also have in my garage renegade 1000 and scrambler 1000s and they all have their place. I would love to see more racers adapt to the Raptor. I always said I don't understand why we don't see more using them in xc style races. To me it's the perfect bike for it.
I got a 24 SE and I love it. I’ve been messing around with the shocks because they were pretty soft. Trail riding they’re great but would bottom out on any jumps.
Yes we've had the same experience through the years. Seems like they went for a little more plushness. And a little less bottoming resistance back in 2015. We typically firm up the fronts when we start jumping bigger stuff.
I have two 2007 raptor 700’s that are in really nice condition with one of them that I can trace back to the original owner. The longevity of this machine is incredible. Wish you guys were closer to Arizona because it would be really cool if you guys can do a video on the longevity of these machines.

Meanwhile, every manufacturer is discounting all of their side by side, and Yamaha is selling every sport quad they build at full retail. Yamaha has stated in numerous places that they have no interest in discontinuing either of their models.

I really feel that Yamaha could make some small improvements to the raptor such as the front bumper mounts are very under built, also the upper shock mount and lower A arm mounts are under built. I assume they are built that way for weight savings but it takes away from longevity of the frame
We haven't heard of a lot of failures in those areas. How old is your machine? Is do you jump a lot? Do you bottom your front shocks very often? Just curious.
@@ATVonDemand i hit jumps a lot at the sand dunes even tho I adjusted the stock shocks on my 700R I would still bottom it out alot, ended up cracking the upper shock mount and broke one of the lower a arms off. I love the raptor I just feel it could be beefed up a bit slightly in the frame department
the reason why yamaha doesnt update isnt because its so good...there isn't any incentive to improve without competition. By now they should have included at least the bottom of the line display from the mt03/r3
Its not the width that makes it not slide in the turns its the stock tires i thought the same thing then i put gbc tires on and it slides perfectly now the stock tires grip but they are not good around turns
Yea I was having alot of trouble with turns on mine I couldn't get it to kick out the way I needed it to in a heavier rider but I put after market tires on it and it was night and day I was able to kick it out and slide around turns perfectly while maintaining control
Woah woah woah, the king of sport quads is a bold statement. They are great bikes that can make plenty of power and handle pretty well, but I, personally, much prefer the near 300lb weight of my 450s, also the 450s do out handle them substantially. Saying this, but I am still impressed with Yamaha keeping sport quads alive and great video as always
@@mitchtavio yeah and the Yfz is a heavy pig without cutting weight but my Tri-ZF450 and ds450 are right around 300lbs, there are more 450s than just the Yfz
It's going to be on the soft side if you start jumping or pushing hard. If you find you are bottoming too easily. There are a number of companies that can simply revalve the stock shocks for about a grand. Well worth the investment.
USA is a huge market so any thoughts of sports quad production restart would have the us as the core market.Plus all the green taxes we have in Europe, fuel emissions etc would make it difficult to sell significant numbers here to make sense business wise.Been wondering if something could have been done based on the drz 400 recipe, cheap reliable and sell big numbers.
We might see some new machines coming down the pipe. But it will be from smaller manufacturers who want the business the larger companies don't care about. The major manufacturers aren't interested in much of anything besides $20,000 + side by sides of this point.
@@ATVonDemand I own two…both 2007’s and rode hard. Great condition and still competitive on the hill in the dunes. Unbelievable reliability and longevity!

I was in high school in the early 2000s and wanted a Banshee soooo bad. I still kinda do but I think a Raptor would be way more practical in my “old age” lol
so in short 10k for an unchanged machine from 2016 BUT NOW WITH EXCITING NEW COLORS AND REFLECTORS ... just buy a used one for 4k take that extra 6k and make it a monster for anything u want
While there might be some truth in what you say. When Yamaha stops selling them, they will stop building them. Then we will have no sport quads. Some things are worth knowing but not necessarily worth saying. It's hard to blame Yamaha for not updating the machines when no one else cares enough to build them.
@@ATVonDemand yea u at correct. I never thought about it that way.. the sxs and utvs are such a major part of the market well most of it the companys don't even care about the sport quads anymore.. so why update and take the time and resources away from ur main money maker I guess
@@mattrimmel9165 Yamaha cells every YFZ and raptor they build. We think the main lack of updates is due to a lack of competition. We are doing everything a publication can do to encourage more manufacturers to get involved. Who knows, maybe we will have some succces.
Some people have more money than time and would rather start fresh. Every used vehicle I ever got always needed work and sometimes you wanna spoil yourself for your hard work haha. It's a win-win for everyone, new models being sold keeps the used market going and keeps companies making parts. I think prices would have to come down if Honda or Suzuki came out with a 400/450 quad though. Really would like to see a 450 with reverse again. Or the 700 in a yfz frame😯🤔
Wish they'd bring the banshee and warrior back. Do the banshee in the original 350cc twin cylinder 2 stroke but also offer a 550/600cc twin cylinder 2 stroke motor. Do the warrior in the original 350cc 4 stroke and then also in a 550/600cc 4 stroke motor. And then keep the raptor in the 700cc motor and for the yfz450 keep it in that size but also offer it with a 650 to 700cc 4 stroke race engine. That way no matter your body size/weight, level of skill riding, where and type of riding, if you are going to actually race it on a mx track, cross country Enduro type racing, go to the big sand dunes ect there is a platform style, size, power and 2 stroke N 4 stroke available. They'd sell really well I think and open up a lot of racing classes, locations/types for the brands and also people who may not like or feel the platforms offered are what they enjoy and races or trails ect are what they enjoy doing.
These pro’s input remind me of the ancient one on visco lock vs Polaris awd and the “Pro’s”said visco engaged faster 😂😂😂😂 literally a mechanical impossibility 😮
Wouldn't consider myself a "pro" and I wouldn't choose a raptor over my Yfz but I was pleasantly surprised with how much I liked the raptor and I definitely see the market and potential for it.
@@ATVonDemand there was a Grizzly 700 with the 686cc engine with power steering in 2007 when I was in high school and 17 years old. In a month I’ll be 35 and that’s still basically exactly what we still have. Think about that for a minute. I love that 700 but come on man lol

Can you guys make a video on how to power slide and do corners there's no good videos on TH-cam how and I want to learn
This is a very good suggestion.
the reason why yamaha doesnt update isnt because its so good...there isn't any incentive to improve without competition. By now they should have included at least the bottom of the line display from the mt03/r3
Yamaha needs to bring back an updated banshee.
Yes but we will be lucky at this point to avoid going full electric.
@@ATVonDemand probably
Its not the width that makes it not slide in the turns its the stock tires i thought the same thing then i put gbc tires on and it slides perfectly now the stock tires grip but they are not good around turns
For sure different tires could help. Widening it and lowering it a bit would also help.
Yea I was having alot of trouble with turns on mine I couldn't get it to kick out the way I needed it to in a heavier rider but I put after market tires on it and it was night and day I was able to kick it out and slide around turns perfectly while maintaining control
I have a 21 I love it !
We love ours too.
Are the front fenders and seat cover black or dark blue? In videos and real photos they look black but on Yamahas website they look dark blue?
Woah woah woah, the king of sport quads is a bold statement. They are great bikes that can make plenty of power and handle pretty well, but I, personally, much prefer the near 300lb weight of my 450s, also the 450s do out handle them substantially.
Saying this, but I am still impressed with Yamaha keeping sport quads alive and great video as always
Valid points 😁
When considering numbers sold, it is the king.
@@Hoonson with that logic the Toyota Corolla would be the king of cars
The Raptor is 17 lbs heavier than a YFZ. Neither is near 300 lbs.
@@mitchtavio yeah and the Yfz is a heavy pig without cutting weight but my Tri-ZF450 and ds450 are right around 300lbs, there are more 450s than just the Yfz
How's the stock suspension work for riders that weigh 300 pounds and 6'3"tall?
It's going to be on the soft side if you start jumping or pushing hard. If you find you are bottoming too easily. There are a number of companies that can simply revalve the stock shocks for about a grand. Well worth the investment.
@@ATVonDemand I'd definitely use rocket Ron to revalve the shocks
USA is a huge market so any thoughts of sports quad production restart would have the us as the core market.Plus all the green taxes we have in Europe, fuel emissions etc would make it difficult to sell significant numbers here to make sense business wise.Been wondering if something could have been done based on the drz 400 recipe, cheap reliable and sell big numbers.
We might see some new machines coming down the pipe. But it will be from smaller manufacturers who want the business the larger companies don't care about. The major manufacturers aren't interested in much of anything besides $20,000 + side by sides of this point.
@@ATVonDemand Some kove or voge 250 400 450 family machine sounds good...
Can’t wait to snag mine next week I can’t sleep lol
We love new quad smell!
I’m surprised that Yamaha is still selling the raptor !!
They sell everyone they build.
A GNCC-spec Raptor 700 build would make for an awesome video!
😁
How many miles on tank of gas?
Amazing enough we have not calculated that. There are large capacity fuel tanks available
Hell yeahhhh! Raptor!!! 🍻🍻🍻
The GOAT. 1 man's opinion.
@@ATVonDemand I own two…both 2007’s and rode hard. Great condition and still competitive on the hill in the dunes. Unbelievable reliability and longevity!
What’s a good OTD price ? Anyone in LA

I’m looking at a 2023 raptor 700SE new . They offering it to me for $7,990 with dmv fees and dealer prep/freight OTD 10,600$ ?? I feel like I’m probably getting ripped off
@@FOURFTPI paid 11.3k for my 2023 R non se OTD. Some places wanted 13, 15 and 16k

I wish they would make more two stroke quads
I was in high school in the early 2000s and wanted a Banshee soooo bad. I still kinda do but I think a Raptor would be way more practical in my “old age” lol
When that video its come
Can we get a factory raptor 1000RR
Hopefully not. It would be a heavy pig. We like to jump and turn. A 4x4 with a 1-liter would be nice.
Thats what Im using to tackle the new 24hours atv race in New York in the Ironman class this summer 😏
so in short 10k for an unchanged machine from 2016 BUT NOW WITH EXCITING NEW COLORS AND REFLECTORS ... just buy a used one for 4k take that extra 6k and make it a monster for anything u want
Sport quads rule!
Agreed!
Widen it giver the big 5 and oh baby
Good plan
These pro’s input remind me of the ancient one on visco lock vs Polaris awd and the “Pro’s”said visco engaged faster 😂😂😂😂 literally a mechanical impossibility 😮
No front differentials in this one. LOL
Wouldn't consider myself a "pro" and I wouldn't choose a raptor over my Yfz but I was pleasantly surprised with how much I liked the raptor and I definitely see the market and potential for it.
Wish Yamaha would update the Grizzly 700 before I die.
Sounds like you need some ATV upgrades in your life.
@@ATVonDemand there was a Grizzly 700 with the 686cc engine with power steering in 2007 when I was in high school and 17 years old. In a month I’ll be 35 and that’s still basically exactly what we still have. Think about that for a minute. I love that 700 but come on man lol

Great video, but if I could offer some constructive feedback - just talk to us in a normal voice, your inflection made this video sound like a 20 minute commercial. Also, the corny spy-movie music in the background is incredibly annoying!

YES!
9K? is what universe? Try 16K at ANY dealer.
Go ahead, call those dealers and tell them you have 10K cash. You won't have enough. It will be damn near double in dealer fees.

I am in Apollo Beach Florida. The MSRP may be that price, but you will not get out the door for that. When I got my sons bike. I was looking at a 24 R3 it was listed at $5899. I called and asked for the cash price out the door. That instantly became $8600. I ended up going to aa house not far from mine to get a Ninja 300 with 2400 miles on it. He asked for 4K. That was the price when I got there. I am, not picking on you but you know damn well the dealer will not let that bike go for less than 40 to 50% above MSRP. @@ATVonDemand

18 years in production and asking 12K out the door. Ridiculously overpriced 😢 I purchased a new Saturn car for that price.
Perhaps but can you buy something better for less? Can you buy another good sport ATV for less new today? SXS start at 20k. HIgh end mountain bikes cost as much as 250cc MX bikes. Nothing is inexpensive these days.
