Thanks for the Raptor 700RR video. I will be following along and trying these upgrades on my own. I wish Yamaha would sell a version of this machine, I would definitely buy one. Thanks again. Love watching your videos on ATV reviews.
I have an 09 SE and have thousands of hard miles on it. The only thing that has broke on it was the front sprockets teeth suddenly disappeared so I changed the chain and sprockets. I can't justify buying a new one that's a little faster. I'd buy a double R and give my 09 to my Son.
That's a good looking quad! I loved my 700 but with a wider body I could see myself clipping more trees and rocks at high speeds. I had to replace my steering column twice. It doesn't look like anything has been done to help the lights from breaking off in a roll over either. I'll bet that thing would be real fun in the dunes!
All it takes IMO is one new sport quad to kickstart the sport atv market again. Like how yamaha made the YFZ450, all the other manufactures followed suite and made their own 450s. All it takes is one new quad or updated quad and I believe the market will come back.glad to see a new sport quad video, great work!
Got a brand new warrior 350 in 1987 as a teen after my first & only 3 wheeler, which was a Yamaha 225DX. Just starting to ride again after 30 years & Yamaha seems to be making awesome ATVs these days, just like back then. I don't need a race quad but this quad looks amazing
YES!!!! This change would make me finally buy a RAPTOR ‼️‼️‼️ Hits the nail on the main concerns I’ve had with the current one!! It would finally remove all my hesitancies!! I really hope Yamaha builds it because I’m SOLD!!!
A wider Raptor would be the perfect bike. As an enthusiast over 200 lbs, the big engine and better comfort of a bigger bike makes sense. But one of the main reasons I want a sport bike is to take turns at the fastest possible. I might not be able to wait for a new stock model, so thanks for the video, I’m going to see if I can build it myself.
wolfie 350 heck yeah, we remember chatting with you in the past. Didn't take it as rude. We haven't been as active as we'd like to be lately. Make sure you are also subscribe to our UTV channel so you're getting all of our content.
I am an owner of a raptor 700r and frequently dune ride and trail ride. Widening the raptor would make this machine and even more amazing one. The width is the only down side of this current bike and would greatly benefit by widening.
Triplicity Damystery obviously, you know we're already sold on the Raptor. It was a lot of fun doing this project and it would be good on so many levels if we could purchase something similar from our local Yamaha dealer. Either way, the Raptors awesome and with a few small changes we think it works better everywhere. We really appreciate you watching and commenting. Thanks.
Jehon Wright you could add nerf bars and a kill switch to this machine and go erase the worcs series with it or do you want occasional motocross race. It's a lot of fun clearing jumps at half the throttle of a 450.
They need make 2 versions a 50 inch raptor 700r independent it will take over the woods💪💪💯 like the trx700xx has.. Honda messed up when they stop making the 700xx sense the sxs got the trails so ate out. Then make a 50 inch straight axle they both would take over the game... I’d buy the raptor 700r 50 inch independent in a heart beat...
I used wheel extenders front and rear to get the width of this build. The rear is at 49.5 and the front is at 48.75. Since I only Trail ride and light jumps the wheel extenders work fine. The ride is so much better. More stable in the turns and side hills. I had a YFZ450 and my 700 rides so much like it not that its been widen. Its like having the ride of a 450 with the torque of the 700.
I will never get rid of my 2014 Honda 450R but this thing would be a really good investment that I would definitely purchase if I didn't already have my 450. The more wide Raptor gives you so much more space to toss the thing around, to stay planted, and to get through the trails as well as the track. It is a seriously awesome machine, and I hope Yamaha considers making this a real thing, because you bet your bottom dollar that they would sell like hot cakes.
I LOVE what you guys have done with this prototype Raptor! I have been looking at the Raptor for the last several months and I'm getting very close to purchasing one. I'm not entirely sure if I will hold off on my purchase in hopes of seeing a newer version like this one due to the fact that it will more than likely be a couple of years before it would be released...if at all. :/ Regardless, I just want to give a HUGE shout out to everyone who was involved in this Raptor prototype build! It is absolutely, positively as dialed in of a Sport ATV as anyone could ever hope for. I certainly hope that Yamaha listens and takes action and comes up with something as good (if not better) straight from the factory!!! In the meantime, one of the motorsports dealers that you highlighted should consider offering this incredible machine as a new, straight from the dealership custom package. I realize that this was not an inexpensive machine to build, however I believe that for the serious buyer, there is definitely a demand. I know how much work goes into creating this machine and filming/narrating a video like this. Fantastic job guys!
boffin6969 if you were considering buying a raptor pull the trigger. Who knows how long we will wait to see a machine like this or if we ever will. The current raptor is pretty awesome and easy to turn into this. You're correct, widening the machine wasn't exactly cheap however we really tried to max out value for the dollar on the parts we picked. Not by purchasing the least expensive but by using products that offered the most performance and value for the dollar. We're thrilled with the way this machine turned out and really appreciate you watching and giving us your feedback.
Just awesome.. I will buy one.. I own two YFZ450 now.. A R and a X model.. love to ride.. I am 47 and owned 3 new quads.. 2008 Honda 450r was the first one.. Give consumer what they want Yamaha.. I vote make it..
great video! i have the 2008 raptor 700 and i already installed aftermarket wider arms and axle, its way more better than stock, yes yamaha needs to make the raptor 700 wider now, awesome video joe!
You guys should totally add this prototype to the market, it would be awesome. And i can seek for everyone when I say that a lot of people are going to buy this quad
I think it'd be very well received. Only thing I'd add would be a seat similar to the yfz450 the wide t-shaped seat. Feel like itd be more comfortable for long trail rides
I've been looking at a new raptor for a while. Currently a yfz owner but do mostly trail riding, and have heard that raptors are more tippy so I have held off getting one for a few years. A wider raptor would definitely push me to upgrade!
For about $800 you can get the +2 Houser arms and Dominator 2 axle. Coupled with offset wheels it makes it over 50 inches wide. This makes it an absolute 450 killer, with an insane feeling of stability. If they built a factory Raptor at that width there’s no doubt more people would stop complaining the Raptor feels “tippy” and buy the Raptor over the YFZ.
We would try to avoid adding additional wheel offset. While we do it on UTVs and ATVs with power steering and smaller ATVs like Blasters of Honda 250X, adding wheel offset increases bump feedback to the rider and makes the machine harder to steer. This is the reason that most top MX racers use the widest A-Arms possible with wheels that are offset inward, which reduces steering effort. To us, offset wheels are a last resort and often not worth the trade-off. Additionally, you have to have your suspension revelved and re-sprung to go wide Just sharing info, not trying to correct you. Thanks for watching and commenting.
ATVonDemand couldn’t agree more, however I run a precision stabilizer and even in the harshest trails I get no feedback. But again that’s another $500 for the stabilizer, so without it, it’s probably best to run stock wheels.
The stabilizer will help on bump feedback but it won't help the increase in steering effort. This might be a good setup for you though and that's what matters most.
Dirt Nasty while widening a raptor will make it handle better, by no means does it create a 450 killer. In order to do that, you'd have to put the machine on a diet to drop the 20+ lbs that the raptor has on the 450's, then you'd not only need to go with the close ratio gearing of a 450, but you'd also need to do cams & a tune to acheive the "lightswitch" like power delivery of a 450 class bike. What you're suggesting is almost like comparing an old dt 400 to an early 2000's yz125.
That would be a awesome machine for sure. Hope Yamaha listens. I have owned everything from blasters to banshees to 4x4's and now a 700. Diff would love to throw my leg over a factory version of what I'm building. Thanks
I would definitely go buy one of these! I love my YFZ450R but I would have bought a Raptor RR had it been available. Would love to see more R&D in the sport ATV world!
I had a brandnew 2001 raptor 660r. First complaint was it was tippy and tall feeling. (I was riding a banshee and 85 atc250r) first mods were 20 inch fast trekkers out back n hole shots up front on wider offset front wheels. Spacers in the rear.(axle bent jumping to high). Next mod was i turned the linkage around 180 degrees and lowered the rear alot. Stiffended things up a tad but was by far the most noticable improvement. I miss it for trail rippin but the 05 yfz450 that replaced it was just so awesome i never looked back except wheel banshees n raptors blew the decals off it top speed on gravel roads. My opinion after riding every yamaha atv made since the early 80s ( trizinger. Yt125 n 175. Ytm200e.tym225 . Tri-z . Moto 4 200 225 350 bigbear. Kodiak banshee raptor yfz grizzly plus over 50 mx bikes mostly yamahas.... hers my opinion.... lower it. Widen it. And skidpkate and gytr exhaust system . Pro taper bars.. ( stock bars are so gay wtf....) and yes i made a major mistake and bought a pile of shit POLARIS. Its ALWAYS broken. Wolverine x4 on the way asap.
Excellent video and a great build on the RR! The narrow width of the stock Raptor is the ONLY aspect of the bike that has me debating between the 700R SE and the 450R SE. If the Raptor was wider the 450R wouldn't even be a consideration. Yamaha NEEDS to widen the Raptor! Seeing what you did has put the Raptor back in the hunt as my next bike. Scott
Hey Scott, glad you enjoyed the video. We keep hoping Yamaha will take note. If you need a little help making your decision, check out our yfz450r vs Raptor 700R shootout video. Then, come back and watch this video again. Both are great machines. We wish we had both in our garage.
Sign me up! This is exactly what I’m looking for. That’s my only complaint about the raptor is it has a tendency to bicycle in hard / flat turns. I think almost everyone would purchase this over the regular raptor if it was available.
great selling feature ! and the quad market needs a spicing up! i think it would be a hit! we all know the Raptor 700r is the king of the sport atv market! I would love to see a little more power with the wider stance! the Duners should eat it up!
I agree with the making it wider aspect. That's a good chance! The prototype you guys built looks awesome. Let me know if you need an outside party to come test drive it for you ;)
Dune rider here with some time on an original 660R and 700R raptor. The 700 was a huge leap from the tippy and torque rich (Slow and low revving) 660R. The motor revved, suspension was fantastic, and the quad could be hustled pretty quickly for a heavy machine. The motor was the best upgrade, feeling very powerful with power everywhere. I wish my 09 YFZ450R felt like the raptor 700. My only gripe with the YFZ450R is that it felt too heavy for the motor. Now I'm generally a 2 wheeler rider so it could be the quad felt slow to my YZ450FX. Regardless, the 700R felt really good. 10% more power sounds even better. With that kind of power, a wider more stable stance would be welcome as the speeds rise. High quality rebuildable shocks on the front would be a welcome improvement. Body english was enough to keep the original 700R flat but a wider track would sure help out lots.
I agree with the wider, but I hope they don’t get rid of the 450r either bc it is a race ready performer too and I like it a lot. Also very excited for the 200x!
Lovely video 🎉 the raptor 700 is the best quad of for the price and reliability unbelievable, i have canam outlander 800 xt 2006 and Polaris sportsman 4x4 ,, i have the 2007 SE doesn't break like the other quads ,the adjustment able shocks is a MUST to really enjoy the quad of hectic trails and track , YES all round spacers is a must , handling improvement alot , not to mention a good exhaust, , will definitely buy another SE , hope Yamaha doesn't try something new and mess it up , its perfect set up and reliability no other brand comes close
By all means! Keep sport quads alive! My 18 year old son is buying a raptor , I’ve had a raptor for a couple years and I’m tired of working on old $#!!. I would buy a 700rr and sell mine for an extremely discounted price to my 14 year old son! Then I would have some incredibly maintained 80s-90s sport quads for sale! We all start from somewhere .
That's cool that you and your son are rocking sport quads. You might have to toss a couple grand to build your own RR. Yamaha doesn't have to do much without competition. The Raptor sells itself. You bring up a good point, compared to the amount of time you spend working on new machines is greatly reduced. Sport quads are also a lot easier to work on than 4x4 ATVs or SXS.
Aside from the skid plate and seat cover upgrades there is very little here that should raise the machines retail price. We wouldn't expect Yamaha to add adjustable a arms to it, just build longer ones. Of course, the axle would also have to be reengineering Fritz extra length but the added cost of manufacturing wider a arms in an axle shouldn't be that much. Utilizing the same shocks recalibrated shouldn't add much in the way of cost either. We think it would be a huge win for everyone. Big thanks for watching and commenting.
We put up a arts list with prices in the story on our website. We don't add prices to videos because they can change and we want the videos to remain somewhat timeless. You can check out the parts list here. atvondemand.com/prototype-49-5-wide-yamaha-raptor-700-test/
Build it I will buy it ! Wouldn't mind a higher compression ratio with heavy duty bearings and forged internals a true 700cc. This would be the winning machine for years to come. YAMAHA 700 RR
I've got the Raptor 350, and my brother had a Raptor 700. The 350 has good power for what it is, and super comfortable to ride. The 700 is very tall and tippy feeling with what feels like too much power for its handling abilities.
A member of our staff used to own a warrior and took it from a bone-stock machine in 1996 to a 430cc bore and stroke engine from Powroll. That Warrior was decked with wider a arms, aftermarket suspension, Etc. We would love to see a mid bore machine similar to The Warrior come back to yamaha's lineup. With a few updates and a reasonable price tag as well. All that being said, we think you would like the Raptor 700 widened out. All those stock, we think it handles quite a bit better than you're giving it credit for. Love your input, thanks for watching, and sorry it took so long to get back with you.
Wider , lower and longer would be great. You guys nailed it i think!!! Looks, functionality and overall fit and finish. I also love that you are pushing USA made up-grades opposed to Chinese made... i know these are Japanese made machines but still. The one thing i would change is the skid plate. Aluminum skids are great but annoying if you dont foam them right and a rock will make them Never fit again. I wish they made a thick plastic skid plate. Overall great job!!’ I hope your paying attention Yamaha!!
My 2006 700R SE Just blew out my casein Not even mad- 2 years on 105.5 BB ported heads, S2 hot cam,HMF header & pipe PC3 pulling 15/38. Balls out 90% of the time. NO QUESTION would sale my neighbors house 4 #1
That's about what I'd be looking for in a new quad. Lower maintenance than a 450 as well. I had a yfz450R and bought it exactly because it had a low center of gravity. Where I live, it's dusty and we're able to hold the bikes topped out, so I had to shim my valves every 2 months. A wider Raptor would have fit the bill just perfectly. The MT-07 engine would be great for a 700RM model. Or maybe the super tenere 1200 engine, and call it the Rex.
A wider raptor rides better out there in the dunes. All raptors’ riders around me had made their raptors wider for better controls on top of the dunes. As you can imagine, shifting your position from side to side is needed in each turn while riding on dunes, thus making the raptor wider will help a lot at critical angles.
dahmoony based in Ohio we don't get to the dunes as often as we'd like. We definitely assume that this machine would work better in the dunes and greatly appreciate your real world feedback.
I would argue the wider wheel base is still beneficial without being in the dunes though. again, I like the 49.5" base you guys went with. Also keeping it under 50" was a good call.
ATVonDemand I widened my 07 700 when I went big bore stroker and built it to an 12.5:1 804cc with 54mm TB with dual pink injectors and a Cuervo Racing 5250 cam Cuervo racing port and polished head. I went +2 LT a arms and an adjustable -2 to +4 axelcaliber axel. I also added a +4 swingarm. It’s still a handful in trails/woods. 98hp 65tq on vp 110 pc5 controller DMC Force 4 Duals.
In the market beginning first of the year Thinking YFZ450R but if Yamaha comes out with this Raptor 700RR I wouldn't even have to think about it. Yamaha give us the 700RR
Oops, we made a mistake. The yfz450x was around for 2 years, 2010 and 2011. Sorry for the error and thanks for watching.
Do we have to change the suspension for extended a arms or axles ?

Got a brand new warrior 350 in 1987 as a teen after my first & only 3 wheeler, which was a Yamaha 225DX. Just starting to ride again after 30 years & Yamaha seems to be making awesome ATVs these days, just like back then. I don't need a race quad but this quad looks amazing
The Raptor I always dream Yamaha makes. Hopefully soon!!
As you could tell, we couldn't wait.
Glad to see you guys back on youtube keep up the good work.
wolfie 350 it's been too long.
I was wondering what that was not to be rude just curiosity coming from number 1 fan. By the way do you remember me from other videos.
wolfie 350 heck yeah, we remember chatting with you in the past. Didn't take it as rude. We haven't been as active as we'd like to be lately. Make sure you are also subscribe to our UTV channel so you're getting all of our content.
For sure right now see you there
I am an owner of a raptor 700r and frequently dune ride and trail ride. Widening the raptor would make this machine and even more amazing one. The width is the only down side of this current bike and would greatly benefit by widening.
PLEASE PLEASE listen Yamaha!! 700RR!!
i want this as my next machine. It literally covers everything you need its ready to race ,ready to thrash.
Thanks.
The raptor 700 is not race ready
Jehon Wright you could add nerf bars and a kill switch to this machine and go erase the worcs series with it or do you want occasional motocross race. It's a lot of fun clearing jumps at half the throttle of a 450.
I know. Just didn't know if you were aware of that
We are.
Honestly Yamaha step up your game and do it! Ive been waiting for a wider version of the raptor for far too long!!!
David Nolasco yes you have. Yamaha, please help this guy out.
We think so too!
This video is put together very well. Easy and enjoyable to watch along with a good voice narrator. SUBSCRIBED 👍🏻
That was the first mods I did to my 07 raptor and love it.
Just awesome.. I will buy one.. I own two YFZ450 now.. A R and a X model.. love to ride.. I am 47 and owned 3 new quads.. 2008 Honda 450r was the first one.. Give consumer what they want Yamaha.. I vote make it..
That's exactly what I have felt it needed!
That would be the quad I would choose. Raptor is already awesome. A little wider even better.
great video! i have the 2008 raptor 700 and i already installed aftermarket wider arms and axle, its way more better than stock, yes yamaha needs to make the raptor 700 wider now, awesome video joe!
Who ever I'd buy this 700rr as well love all the upgrades and the idea that it would come standard
Were keeping our fingers crossed.
If Yamaha built this I would buy it no questions asked. It's like if the yfz and raptor had a baby. Absolutely amazing.
Just watched the video. I'm wanting a 700RR sooo bad! If they'd build one like that stock I'd be in debt in a heartbeat lol
So what a lot of us.
You guys did pretty good on this build. I’d have topped it off with a steering stabilizer, houser +1 stem with anti vibe clamp and some tougher bars.
Yes absolutely the first thing I did to my 17 raptor was make it wider.
I've been looking at a new raptor for a while. Currently a yfz owner but do mostly trail riding, and have heard that raptors are more tippy so I have held off getting one for a few years. A wider raptor would definitely push me to upgrade!
SOLD!!!
I'll take one tuned for a 160lbs rider, that rides trail and track; lowest ride stance too.
Take my money,
this is the way to go..
Always wanted my 700 wider...
Take my money, LOL, awesome. They can take ours too.
ATVonDemand very true! For my conditions fast desert riding width is everything, but yes it takes a little more grunt to move. 😁
I know I would buy it in a heartbeat .
Rmz J we would be in line right behind you.
I absolutely love the build of your prototype and I absolutely would buy one if Yamaha came out with one just like this thank you.
Our pleasure! We'd buy one as well.
I love my raptor 700! Keep it alive
I see a money making opportunity for someone to provide these builds :)
You'd save the money of buying a new quad if Yamaha ever came out with this
Love this. Just bought a brand new Raptor 2018 and it does seem like it would benefit greatly from wider track
As long as you don't spend all of your time riding on dirt bike trails it's a total win.
Let’s get this ATV build! I for sure, would buy it!!
That would be a awesome machine for sure. Hope Yamaha listens. I have owned everything from blasters to banshees to 4x4's and now a 700. Diff would love to throw my leg over a factory version of what I'm building. Thanks
Let's see your build!
I miss my 660. Always dream of getting another. This is her.
Yes, I love it. Yes, I will definitively buy one if they come with those upgrades from factory.
Perfect, hopefully yamaha takes some notes👍
I own a Raptor 700 and mines not wider and my fenders already don’t do anything so I can’t even imagine how bad this could be
We don't take our sport ATVs out in the mud very often so it's not an issue.
I think that this would be an amazing upgrade to the already awesome bike! I’d like to see this for sale in the future for sure!
That would be awesome if Yamaha would make one like this prototype.
We'd love it.
@@ATVonDemand Thanks for the help. I appreciate it! I will definitely check out the comparison video.
Scott
You broke my heart when I realized it was just a one-off. Me and the guys up here in MN have been waiting for a big bore sport quad revolution!
They should definitely do this setup I would buy this over a 450 any day !!!!
Jeremy Meier here's betting you wouldn't be the only one.
I think the raptor 700RR would be the best thing out there, I'd buy one in a heartbeat.. I've always been a HUGE FAN of the raptor's!!!!
Sign me up! This is exactly what I’m looking for. That’s my only complaint about the raptor is it has a tendency to bicycle in hard / flat turns. I think almost everyone would purchase this over the regular raptor if it was available.
TheRowdyRanger we certainly think a number of people would. Thanks for watching and for your feedback.
great selling feature ! and the quad market needs a spicing up! i think it would be a hit! we all know the Raptor 700r is the king of the sport atv market! I would love to see a little more power with the wider stance! the Duners should eat it up!
Love it! This and a duel over head cam perfect 👍
Excellent build! I love it!! Hey Yamaha, I would buy one
Definitely build. Would be at the dealer as soon as one arrives
We be looking like a mob of those crazy Black Friday shoppers.
I agree with the making it wider aspect. That's a good chance!
The prototype you guys built looks awesome. Let me know if you need an outside party to come test drive it for you ;)
Thanks for the feedback and for your willingness to put your body on the line for our cameras.
Midwest ATV more ground clearance in the back would be great so we can ride it on the Enduro tracks with the Enduro bikes.
ATVonDemand haha, anytime!
nicodabastard good point! I could see that.
I'm late to the party, but hell yes! This beast needs an upgrade!
I agree with the wider, but I hope they don’t get rid of the 450r either bc it is a race ready performer too and I like it a lot. Also very excited for the 200x!
Andreas Angelopoulos we would not want to see the 450 go away either. We don't think this is a replacement for the 450.
Thanks for sharing your experience!
Love this idea, anything to keep pure sport ATVs alive. but I was curious what the songs are in this video especially the one at 6:29
By all means!
Sport quads are also a lot easier to work on than 4x4 ATVs or SXS.
for the right price this could do every well. This is what everyone has been asking for.
Yamaha please upgrade our favorite quad of all times , thank you utv great build 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I would head to the dealership right this second if Yamaha made this!!!
this is awesome! looks like im gonna be ordering some parts!
We put up a arts list with prices in the story on our website. We don't add prices to videos because they can change and we want the videos to remain somewhat timeless. You can check out the parts list here. atvondemand.com/prototype-49-5-wide-yamaha-raptor-700-test/
Yes please make one
Build it I will buy it ! Wouldn't mind a higher compression ratio with heavy duty bearings and forged internals a true 700cc. This would be the winning machine for years to come. YAMAHA 700 RR
I love this. They need to get started and manufacture this machine.
We'd love it!
I’d definitely buy one again , if it came exactly as a starting point as tested !
As a dune rider the stability is what I love from the yfz but the lack of torque is what I hate about it. Yamaha needs to do this!
We had a feeling the Dune crowd would be fans.
Let’s go baby.I would love that atv.MAKE IT Yamaha
Build it! He will come!
Yamaha definitely needs to bring something like this into production 🔥🔥
Wider , lower and longer would be great. You guys nailed it i think!!! Looks, functionality and overall fit and finish. I also love that you are pushing USA made up-grades opposed to Chinese made... i know these are Japanese made machines but still. The one thing i would change is the skid plate. Aluminum skids are great but annoying if you dont foam them right and a rock will make them
Never fit again. I wish they made a thick plastic skid plate. Overall great job!!’ I hope your paying attention Yamaha!!
Wider, lighter and lower rider height will make the raptor a real king of the trails.
Yes make it and the 450 a full 50" wide!😀👍
I77deer yeah, that would be all right.
Thank you Yamaha for another great product 👍👌😀
They haven't built it yet, but hopefully soon.
That would get me back into a Raptor wider and lower seat height would make that bike perfect
!!!
Agree 100% even on normal trails it would be beneficial!
In the market beginning first of the year
Thinking YFZ450R but if Yamaha comes out with this Raptor 700RR I wouldn't even have to think about it.
Yamaha give us the 700RR
