This is honestly one of my favorite BB song. Now I know the original meaning of the song but I’ve made like my own theory about it, so the Diary of Jane could also mean society as a whole and how we as human beings are trying to fit in with its insanely high standards hence the line, “I still try to find my place in the diary of Jane” and “tell me how It should be” but that last line could also be like sarcasm as in, “you know all the answers, tell me what I should be like” kind of thing. Society can make us lose ourselves if we try too hard. I know that’s a really deep and dark meaning but that’s the whole point about music, you can create any meaning you want. It doesn’t have to be just one way of thinking.

I could debate that. John Cooper first has a natural rasp in his voice after 20 years of singing punk and alternative. Ben Burnley is an exceptional singer and definitely on the level of John Cooper, but Chester Bennington was in an entirely different league. Chester could pull off that rasp, but his vocal range is freaking insane and he can literally scream forever. I'm not even technically a 'fan' of Linkin Park, but I was crushed when I heard the Chester died because he was one of the best.
I absolutely love this song. I believe that the lyrics are about a guy who is in love with a girl who has died. The first line...If I had to, I would put myself right beside you...sounds to me like he is considering killing himself to be with her in the afterlife...put himself right beside her in the graveyard. If you see in the video, he is visiting her grave in the beginning of the song and the end. I think what is driving him mad is that he knows that Jane didn't love him during her life. He tries to fool himself by 'looking the other way' and burning the pages of the diary that are not about him, but there's a fine line between love & hate, meaning that when he allows himself to see that she didn't love him, he hates her. When he realizes that he is thinking about killing himself to be with the one he loves (even though she doesn't love him), he starts wondering what he has become, contemplating killing himself for someone who does not think he is special. This is honestly one of my favorite BB song. Now I know the original meaning of the song but I’ve made like my own theory about it, so the Diary of Jane could also mean society as a whole and how we as human beings are trying to fit in with its insanely high standards hence the line, “I still try to find my place in the diary of Jane” and “tell me how It should be” but that last line could also be like sarcasm as in, “you know all the answers, tell me what I should be like” kind of thing. Society can make us lose ourselves if we try too hard.
I know that’s a really deep and dark meaning but that’s the whole point about music, you can create any meaning you want. It doesn’t have to be just one way of thinking.

I could debate that.
John Cooper first has a natural rasp in his voice after 20 years of singing punk and alternative. Ben Burnley is an exceptional singer and definitely on the level of John Cooper, but Chester Bennington was in an entirely different league. Chester could pull off that rasp, but his vocal range is freaking insane and he can literally scream forever. I'm not even technically a 'fan' of Linkin Park, but I was crushed when I heard the Chester died because he was one of the best.

I absolutely love this song.
I believe that the lyrics are about a guy who is in love with a girl who has died. The first line...If I had to, I would put myself right beside you...sounds to me like he is considering killing himself to be with her in the afterlife...put himself right beside her in the graveyard. If you see in the video, he is visiting her grave in the beginning of the song and the end.
I think what is driving him mad is that he knows that Jane didn't love him during her life. He tries to fool himself by 'looking the other way' and burning the pages of the diary that are not about him, but there's a fine line between love & hate, meaning that when he allows himself to see that she didn't love him, he hates her.
When he realizes that he is thinking about killing himself to be with the one he loves (even though she doesn't love him), he starts wondering what he has become, contemplating killing himself for someone who does not think he is special.
