Shoutout to one of my favorite albums to play drums to, song for song. Let me know what your favorite albums to play drums to are! Track List Like Eating Glass [00:00] Helicopter [01:20] Positive Tension [01:52] Banquet [02:37] Blue Light [03:34] She's Hearing Voices [04:23] The Pioneers [05:26] The Price Of Gasoline [06:09] So Here We Are [07:05] Luno [08:33]
Man I used to listen to this album ad nauseum in college. I always found myself air drumming more to this than any other album. He writes some amazing grooves that are hooks but also good enough to propel whole songs. Bloc party never captured this magic again I feel.
That first bloc party had everything you need in a great album , i remember a lot of people getting excited over bloc party but the second album didnt really deliver for me and that was pretty much how a lot of my friends and peers felt , they caught lighting with silent alarm
I love that I'm seeing way more docs, essays and videos about bloc party's silent alarm. That album came out my senior year in high school and there were so many other bands releasing banger after banger. Silent alarm is the one that just never gets old no matter how much you listen to it. I've noticed there a lot of essays and content about it recently and it's probably because Paramore referenced silent alarm as an inspiration.
I LOOOVE matt tongs drumming i recently learned how to play banquet lol. One of the many great matts in in rock drumming (matt johnson…matt barrick… matt helders…). Idk if youre into interpol at all but turn on the bright lights has probably had the greatest impact on my drumming!! Sam fogarino is a beast
just saw your Nick Mason vid. I had seen your Mitch Mitchell video some time ago. i was thinking oh it’d be dope if he has a Matt Tong video and here i am. great content man, keep up the great work!
I'd love to watch a bonus video on Two More Years. There's something about the drums on this track that mesmerizes me (also super glad it's finally on Spotify!)
Bloc Party is just outside of my top 5 from the 2000s, but this album is in the running for #1 against the other bands in my list and a big part of it is the drumming.
Havent watched yet but this channel is great. If you havent already (i will now look) maybe you could do one on matt helders or gary from the libertines?

Silent Alarm is such an amazing album, the drumming really makes it.

Mr. Cobb, thank you so much for breaking down Matt Tong for the masses. Bloc Party taught me how to play music (mostly bass) and listen to drums.
One of my favourite drummers of all time

Exactly what I just typed.
Great choice!

Subbed! Would love to hear your thoughts on Matt Helders.

Be sick to see you do a cover of their song skeleton. Very interesting drum track
Still a cool video but why no "This Modern Love"?
:)
