Best Of HillClimb Monsters || GROUP B Edition

- Now that 35 years have passed since Group B was banned from Rallying, one of the very few Motorsport disciplines where we could enjoy these Monsters was Hillclimb Racing. Not only that, many of these machines were tuned and modernized even further, boosting even bigger Horsepower figures and crazier Aerodynamic packages.
We have featured a number of them since we created the Channel and these 10 are some of the very best. From the Twincharged Delta S4, to the mighty Quattro S1, the Naturally Aspirated screaming Metro 6R4, crazy Ford RS200 Evo variants and wildly driven Renault 5 Turbo units, we have a bit of everything. And chances here this 2021 year we might add some more to this list. For now, these are the stars on display:

Brunos S4 very rare and the man behind the wheel is absolutely crazy. But the other cars are also so much puristic like the S4 :) 🏁

There is a driving center near Paris that allows you to drive an Audi Quattro S1, it’s called VaisonGroupeB. You can also just be a passenger. Prices start at 1800€

Fantastic video! Love seeing these cars run. I was in college during Group-B. Every month or two an article would appear in a car magazine showcasing yet another homologation special. Keep in mind that the automotive selection for enthusiasts during the early-80s was poor, putting it mildly, and these cars appeared as a strike of lightening to one's eyes. Adrenaline pumps. This had an enormous influence on my own automotive orientation and one of the main reasons as to why I've owned a homologation special for the past 15 years.

The lancia delta s4 is such a legendary car for its time. Supercharged and turbo’d. Very impressive
Man, that Renault 5 Turbo had to extra fun to drive...
Taking corners on 3 wheels (i remember watching an event where Jean Ragnotti was also driving about in the same style a Renault 5 Maxi Turbo..) ;0)
Damn...those noises took me straight back to the mid 80s as a young man leaping into snow drifts in Kielder forest. Watching these beasts spitting flames with discs glowing red hot is a sight never to be forgotten. Shame we will never see anything like it ever again.

These were all awesome to see, but that first quattro didnt look like it was even aware of physics! That man, car, and road came together stunningly!
The S1E2 always sounds amazing, but it sounds even more amazing when you realize it's three miles away.
Also, Liam Doran needs to bring that Ford back to Pikes Peak.
Thst quattro is just amazing...its presence ...power...sound..handling..it has it all👌
Aside from the small accident, that Black Rs200 just looks insane. I love thos body mods!

The onboard footage makes it look like an insane pure madness experience.
I wonder if the added drag outweighed the amount of weight shed by the hood coming off.

There's something about watching an audi quattro and a lancia s4 that i will never ever get tired of. The front of that white lancia looks mean and evil.
Watching these 750+hp rocket ships on gravel during the 80's was the highlight of automotive racing history, driven by legends with balls of steel. Great footage of some age old favorites.

watching the metro go on the loose surface was beautiful. r5 getting its front leg up in the air was also pretty cool
As great as these Group B cars look and run on bitumen roads in modern hillclimb it is not until 8:27 that you really appreciate what they were built for! Awesome!

The dual clutch transmission was pioneered on on the Audi S1 so it might actually be one!

The Group-B rally cars really were monsters; monsters which snatched too many wonderful drivers away from us.

Ok, i might have a unpopular opinion here but i don't really like the lancia's sound, for some reason i just can't like it, maybe it's the supercharger sound but the actual concept of putting both a turbo and a supercharger is very interesting.
Edit: now that i seen the full video, the red lancia sounds really good, again, it's probably the supercharger

The Peugeot 205 T16 E2 still the best rally car of all time. It looks great, sounds great and the power in that car is limitless.

Metro 6r4 was the ultimate beast ,super fast despite being non turboed !
This is about as good as it gets in my opinion! So good 😍! Wish there was the opportunity to see an event of this caliber in Australia
While there isn´t an event to this caliber in australia now, there is potential for it to happen.. We´ll see ;)

Audi S1, all day what a noise , they're is a few types missing , the Manta 400 & Mazda 323 , I was lucky enough to see and feel them back in the day , Jimmy McRae in a wedge shaped Subaru , the Talbot Sunbeam was good aswell. Thank you and take care . 👻 ☯
