oh my god my father and I used to take turns on stages with this game. this was literally the best game I ever got on the SNES. damn, childhood was awesome~
I did this with my father as well, when I was 5 or 6. Neither one of us could get past the Cave Level. Once I became an adult and played the game again (around 15 years ago) I finally got to see the end of the game.
I could never beat this freakin' game! The music and sound fx are so burned into my brain that whenever crazy life stuff starts going down I hear the music to the player, target, and fighter/weapon selection screens.
I can almost guarantee that the camera movement at 0:40 was added there mainly to demonstrate the Mode 7 effects of the SNES. It was pretty common to show off that effect in the earlier SNES games.
Outside of the usual mainstream games on snes this was the most memorable game for me and it’s nice to see how many others enjoyed it as well. The memory of fighting the submarine and having it launching out of the water was forever burned into my memory.
I've never played this kind of games cause i was 6 or 7 y.o and it was way too dificult for me but my brother did. I remember loong evenings staring at the tv while he was playing with it. On the other hand, I remember every single song in this game. Music is soo powerful to memories!!
I'm haunted by a lot of video game songs from the 80's and early 90's. They've influenced me as a musician so much that I wonder how many people I owe royalties to.
I remember playing this on SNES before ever touching the arcade original. When I finally did I couldn't help but find it lacking... no F200? Madness. Love the style. Love the early-90s Capcom soundfont. And no matter that it's a bit easy or that I clearly have rose colored glasses... still one of my all time favorite side scrolling shmups.
I can't say for sure, but I feel like "Seavet" is a misromanization of "Sievert". (A unit primarily used for measuring radiation dosage - certainly thematic for a nuclear sub)
If I could actually find this game, I'll go get it... While I prefer the music from the arcade, the SNES version is a _huge_ improvement by including stage select...
This was a great signature title. When I hear the start of the music of the second stage I just want to sing "Gun... Top Gun... Top GUN... TOP GUN...". Edit: I just received this from ebay to relive some old memories. I have discovered that after 25 years I am not as good at 2D evasion games as I used to be.
12:36 I'm kinda curious as to how that submarine is being rotated as it jumps out the water, if it's using column scrolling on one of the backgrounds via Mode 2 or something else.
*skipping to random parts of the video* Yep, convoy farming. I like to play as Shin and stick with the Crusader all the way up to the cave level, then you don't need to do so much of that. Technically the cave boss can be beaten with any plane, but it takes a ridiculous amount of precision.
I've been trying to remember what the name of this game was called for the last month. I couldn't remember, this was one of my favorite games super nintendo
En su momento pase U.N Scuadron y Contra III en su máximo nivel sin grabar en la antigua SNES, algo que está en mi hoja de vida cuando me presento a un trabajo😅
The Amiga had a customed designed, sample based four channel stereo soundchip calles 'Paula' if i remember rightly. The snes sounded a lot better than the megadrive, but for me not quite as good as the miggy.(The music's good but don't like the sfx much in this game) But as i said, the prices of Snes games were obscene. Yeah Ocean did a lot of uncaring rush jobs on the Amiga back in the day....
The snes was good, although i preferred the Amiga's sound and more variety of games. But i remember Snes games being hidoeusly expensive and a total rip off and nowhere near worth the money...
Has anyone beat this game legitimately? I can barely get past the cavern stage, the one before the last stage. I have only managed to get past the cavern stage twice, and I've been playing it for 6 years... It's so difficult.

@@Leomerya12 They really made em tough
dude you used to play video games with your dad??
thats aweseome man
Rarely is a game as worthy of the Top Gun soundtrack as this.
Capcom got off on the right foot with this launch title for the SNES. What a way to start.
I could never beat this freakin' game! The music and sound fx are so burned into my brain that whenever crazy life stuff starts going down I hear the music to the player, target, and fighter/weapon selection screens.
I could beat on Easy and Normal but never on Hard. I could get to the ceiling boss, though.
Haha amazing
@@tyvulpintaur2732 Yeah, me too!
Beated a few times as a kid as an adult idk how haha
Hahahaha 😂😂💪

Area 88 is such a badass series.
Classic game/soundtrack 🙌🏻
@ValisHD Almost all Capcom games sounded like that on the SNES, and arcades (CPS1 and CPS2). That's part of why they're so cool.
And the flaming unicorn is still one of the most badass things I've ever seen.
So, this is what Vinny was talking about... looks like a blast. :D
Sickass game! I remember playing this at the arcade back in the late 80s and early 90s. Still own the sfc version to this date.
OMG!! I so remember this game... It is absolutely legendary
Yeah, me too!
I loved this SNES game.
Me too.

Aah shit, this spoils it for me. Was planning to revive some old memories. :D
Oh, I got good again, better than I was in the past actually!
Damn that menu music activated looong forgotten memories 😅 love this game so much even though it was insanely hard as a kid
Incredible game and an excellent play through video, thank you.

So am I.
This comment led me down an interesting rabbit hole. Thanks
UN squadron= AREA 88 awesome anime :D
Yeah.
I've been waiting for a longplay of this game with the original music. :-)
Rookie status. Those trucks just require a mega crush well timed
Mega Crush costs $5K. You get $20K for destroying the trucks. That's still profit, but using just the Vulcan cannon is worth the extra $5k.
omg!!!!! a childhood memory relived
@gaspump you know dude!! i remember journeys full of vice of this super game. I remember these christmas
this game is so fucking good, awesome gameplay, awesome music.
Yeah! You BET it is.
I loved the fuck out of this game. Played it so much I learned where all the hidden powerups were.
1 of my fav games when i was a kid :D
um otimo jogo de snes ! eo cara que joga e pika !

Whoo! My favorite game on the snes!
I've been trying to remember what the name of this game was called for the last month. I couldn't remember, this was one of my favorite games super nintendo
if only the real UN would be this useful.
En su momento pase U.N Scuadron y Contra III en su máximo nivel sin grabar en la antigua SNES, algo que está en mi hoja de vida cuando me presento a un trabajo😅
@Samoutuomas Yeah Capcom games allways had fantastic music.
Yes, they did.
Are you asking if this is the same game as Area 88? If so, yes.
Mode 7 baby!
Consider in release a new version with all the secrets. Especially the secret item life, the icon is the pilot helmet
very cool thanks!
too bad is not on the WII yet
i was a kid again for just a moment.
I remember the existence of the secret life where its icon is the pilot's helmet, do you know where is located?
40:20 one of the hardest bosses I've ever played against in a video game
I wonder if you can get this for pc
I love the last plane
🥰🥰🥰🥰
Don’t we all?
This game is beautiful.. and super hard lol

Yeah Ocean did a lot of uncaring rush jobs on the Amiga back in the day....
Yeah buddy this game was pretty damn difficult...... But fun of course
i am so glad i bought this game off ebay for 19.99
The snes was good, although i preferred the Amiga's sound and more variety of games. But i remember Snes games being hidoeusly expensive and a total rip off and nowhere near worth the money...
@timhomer2009 nope thats the battleship
Se pi bèl game avion ki te ka genyen nan super nintendo.
It sure is.

I know - but i just don't like the sfx on the snes version
shin kazama for marvel vs capcom 3
He's a licensed character though
You don't have to hold down the firing button for the entire game
It is a good way of uncovering the hidden pick-ups if you are not absolutely certain where they are, though.
U.N. Squadronはエリア88の英語版?
Yes, it is.
wowo
Shin kazama = Jin kazama anyone?
good joke
It is not the same as beating the game for yourself
The snes had some lousy sound compared to the Amiga...
@thumminxy - Yeah but listen to the sfx here - totally awful...
