Fantastic game. It was one of the first four carts available upon the mighty Super Nintendo's launch in 1991 (alongside F-Zero, Pilotwings, and SimCity). However you feel about GIII's insane difficulty level or Space Shooters in general, one thing here is for certain: The soundtrack is just AMAZING. Perfectly listenable even if one isn't playing the game. The themes for the Garden Stage (level 6) and Mechanical Base (level 9) are two of the best out of the console's entire library. My parents got this for me on Christmas 1991 and I never looked back - Gradius 3 is one of my favorite games of all time.
The Arcade version's soundtrack is even better. Some of the songs are absent due to some of the stages either not existing or being swapped around (the organic level is between the Moai and Fire levels rather than being the final level) but it's really, REALLY good. Not too many people have heard of the arcade version, and for good reason. It released a few years earlier and is easily one of the hardest games of all time. More people have beaten Battletoads than the Arcade Gradius 3. Still, it's a really cool alternative version that, difficulty aside, actually feels a lot more unique.
i agree it has good music...but Darius Twin had better music and was another great SNES ship-shooter but as far as best msuic? for me im not sure if i can pick one between the 3 megaman X games, Final Fantasy 4 and 6 (aka 2 and 3 here in the states) and chrono trigger...the SNES had a ton of great games with equally great music scores...so its hard to say which is best
Gradius 3 arcade made this version look like a a kids plaything the crystal rush was insanely hard and wasnt included in the snes version because it was so hard, and stage 10 in the arcade was a sick joke ive never played anything as hard as that stage.
Love this game! My mom, brother, and I all used to play this all the time back in the day. I've always been super-fond of the Crystal Ship you battle in the Boss Rush level, though I like all of the ship bosses in general. Mine/My Mom's Weapon Choices Hawk Wind Missile Standard Double Twin Laser or Ripple Laser F. Option Reduce Shielding Mega Crush or Full Power My brother would sometimes use the standard weapon mode, and always pick the one that gave him the Cyclone Laser and the Spread Bomb with a Force Field, but sometimes he'd use the edit mode. Brother's Weapon Choices Small Spread Missiles Vertical Double Cyclone Laser or E. Laser Rotating Option Reduce Shielding Mega Crush or Full Power
I would always select: Hawk wind Double regular shot E. Laser. R. Optional. Reduce shield. Bull barrier or mega crush. Dude... So much nostalgia right now...
This game and its soundtrack is one of the reason why I STILL have my SNES and what made the 90's so special to me. =3 I always with E-Laser and R-option & Reduce Shield.
So much damn memories man.. Im glad i relived it last night. I re bought it. Indluding Super Mario World and Killer instinct judge dredd and this one and few more.. Im 20 now. used to play this as a little kid
Johnathon_Able000. Youngen LOL. I'm 36 and I remember the day my mom brought me home the whole system with Super Mario and F-Zero. Best day of my childhood! haha! And I still have the same sytem and games she bought me back the day they were put onto shelves.
@@HaNg_ALL_ThE_tRaItOrS_hiGh I Still have my Super NES complete from August 91 and games. My parents said they would get it for me if paid for half of it. I ended up saving 150 bucks that summer so as a reward for earning more than agreed upon, they got me Gradius 3 and F-Zero. I saved up more money and got Final Fight about a month later. Incredible memories!
these are my old memories when i was a kid like 6 to 7 yrs old this game has lovely music played when u are inside of a cave ummm... idk but i finnally remember it right now for 16 years
Geezus! Playing a game so many times over so you know where everything is is one thing, but being able to have the skill to dodge and weave through enemy fire like that at full speed is just completely beyond me. Every time I turned the speed up too high, I lost my precision of movement and wound up running into enemy fire somehow. Ultima's just got some seriously insane controller skills. Nice work! :)
This is my favorite Gradius game. I love the customizable gear options you can select from that others either don't have at all or water down. I'd like Option satellites circle my ship rather than follow me, so Gradius 1 and 2 are almost unplayable for me.
I got thru it on hard mode when i was younger it was a fun classic game that i love so much. I miss the memories of the game. I wish i could play it one more time.
Well played and on hard even. Holy crap, it is hard enough on normal. lol One of my favorite titles on the SNES. The furthest I have gotten is the two crabs you fight on stage 10. Could never get past them, but maybe next time I will. Can't believe how easy the last boss was. It really seemed like nothing at all. I still think the E-laser is the best and most powerful weapon. You can hold the button and launch a powerful laser ball, and destroy a boss within two or three of those. Then I use Hawk wind, the shield barrier. Might use those multi directional options next time. They seem better, and you can guide them where you want. Also wanted to mention, I think this game has one of the best soundtracks in video games. Especially the level with the dragons and fire. That is an epic track.
SAME thing with me, I absolutely LOVED this game, the farthest I made it was the boss after the ice boss in the part where you fight 5 in a row or something.
Noob question, I just started playing this game and understand how the power ups work except for the shield. What button(s) do you press to activate your shield? Do you have to have all powerups before activating it?
Reminds me of when my dad and I played this in the early 90's. We hated the third boss so much, two hours to beat Twin Gorgon and raged when his body blew apart and we died to it. We beat the game, but my dad REALLY hated that crystal boss.
A moment of silence for all of those who never passed the game 😔 after the plant level that's it for me. That fast level is insane. I've made it to that boss and die quick😂
No Ultima is on steroids nobody else could have that level of skill. Either he is on steroids of he is Tom Hanks the greatest video game player of all times.
Actually... would it be cool if you guys opened a longplay that's just dedicated to non-emulated/non TAS runs? Even if the quality is lower... I think I'd still watch it :)
man I thought I had caught all o the longplays. Well, I'll be enjoying this one as well as the others. @8:22 I was hoping he would go into the secret area.
You have no idea why we record these games. If you want to see a skill video - go on twitch TV. This is for HQ longplays without talking showing the public the games they enjoy. Savestates or not. - Currently Longplaying Metal Gear Rising Revengance. So if you want to slate about player skill wait till you see me play that game and it will just show you're speaking out your arse like 99% of the haters out here on YT
Bacterian, God of Destruction, you attacked Planet Gradius, you will pay the price! I'm going to get into my Vic Viper, and I'm going to blow you to kingdom come! Best Super NES game ever!
+Endymion The arcade one doesn't. The only Gradius games that have simultaneous 2-player mode are Salamander/Life Force, Salamander 2, Gradius Gaiden, and Gradius V.
whoever is playing this got so lucky throughout this run lol. so many times where if you held a direction frames longer you would go plummeting into a bullet or something
Fantastic game. It was one of the first four carts available upon the mighty Super Nintendo's launch in 1991 (alongside F-Zero, Pilotwings, and SimCity).

My parents got this for me on Christmas 1991 and I never looked back - Gradius 3 is one of my favorite games of all time.
You forgot Super mario world (making it five) Still, its amazing how well the snes's launch games have held up.
The Arcade version's soundtrack is even better. Some of the songs are absent due to some of the stages either not existing or being swapped around (the organic level is between the Moai and Fire levels rather than being the final level) but it's really, REALLY good.

sf2 was my first game for the snes
Love this game! My mom, brother, and I all used to play this all the time back in the day. I've always been super-fond of the Crystal Ship you battle in the Boss Rush level, though I like all of the ship bosses in general.
Mine/My Mom's Weapon Choices
Hawk Wind Missile
Standard Double
Twin Laser or Ripple Laser
F. Option
Reduce Shielding
Mega Crush or Full Power

Brother's Weapon Choices
Small Spread Missiles
Vertical Double

Rotating Option
Reduce Shielding
Mega Crush or Full Power
lol just like what I choose!
I would always select:
Hawk wind
Double regular shot
E. Laser.
R. Optional.
Reduce shield.
Bull barrier or mega crush.
Dude... So much nostalgia right now...
ooohhhhh.. my childhood.. i miss this game so much.. it remembers me so much memories
and now I'm 21..
like my comment if you were born on 90's
Still my favorite Gradius game. Mostly for the music and atmosphere. Love that early SNES darkness.
I loved this game. I beat one time. only took me 10 controllers. lol. the frustrations were real. nice play through man.
JBM Gaming.😂🤣😂🤣 I know right. Sob!
It's so hard :/
Damn the music... so much nostalgia!!!!
Oh god the nostalgia is hitting hard....especially the music!
Man, I loved this game as a kid. I remember when I got a SNES for christmas and got this game and would play it for hours.
This is the coolest game ever. 5 consecutive bosses.. HELLO! And the music is a masterpiece.
Oh, this takes me back....
I always loved the title opening to this game and the music is fantastic. So addictive
This game and its soundtrack is one of the reason why I STILL have my SNES and what made the 90's so special to me. =3
I always with E-Laser and R-option & Reduce Shield.
Reduce was great for helping get through tight spaces...especially playing on hard...the laser just cuts through everything.
+Eric Simmons (Jr) I agree 100% I beat this game and every villain with laser I'm 2 seconds
So much damn memories man.. Im glad i relived it last night. I re bought it. Indluding Super Mario World and Killer instinct judge dredd and this one and few more.. Im 20 now. used to play this as a little kid
Johnathon_Able000 same mannnnnn but I never made it all the way to beat the game lol
Johnathon_Able000. Youngen LOL. I'm 36 and I remember the day my mom brought me home the whole system with Super Mario and F-Zero. Best day of my childhood! haha! And I still have the same sytem and games she bought me back the day they were put onto shelves.

Absolute CLASSIC!! Love everything about this version. Much better than the arcade version. The 16bit era will always be the best gaming.
I played this game so much as a kid, Grade A nostalgia!
Amazing game and sound track / Asombroso juego y pista de sonido...
The music at 6:15 is epic! Love this game so much!
whoooo yes , this is my favorite game , since i played this game in year 2002 when i was 14 years old this is my favorite game forever
thanks for uploading bro i haven't seen this game in ages
No game today have ever made a game like with this kind of super powerful music
these are my old memories when i was a kid like 6 to 7 yrs old this game has lovely music played when u are inside of a cave ummm... idk but i finnally remember it right now for 16 years

Bacterion: I was born out of the greediness of mankind. While men exist, so will I.
+Lillian Griffin "NWAAAHHHHHHHHH"
The song hypes me up
Could never beat any of these games as a kid. They were not fun but was tempting to try every once in a while for the cool guns as you build up.
Watching this gives me anxiety. One of the most difficult games ever made.
A blast from the past indeed...almost depressing to see this really in a way
This is my favorite Gradius game. I love the customizable gear options you can select from that others either don't have at all or water down. I'd like Option satellites circle my ship rather than follow me, so Gradius 1 and 2 are almost unplayable for me.
Oh my God, this game... This game was so AMAZING!! GOD this brings me back!! THE MUSIC!!! AAAAAH!!!
Wish they added this game to the Nintendo Store for use on the DS system's like my 3DS.
Fantástico juego
Si que lo es, pero es un terrible amargador de vidas jajajajajajaja... xDDDD
Best game ever
Try UN Squadron on snes!
With "Axelay" and "Thunderforce IV" of Sega Genesis
I got thru it on hard mode when i was younger it was a fun classic game that i love so much. I miss the memories of the game. I wish i could play it one more time.

Very cool! Brings back a lot of memories for me. I have it again for my emulator, hehe.
Fantástico juego de gradius 3 para el snes
Super Nintendo music like this is like an antidepressant.

So am I.
Sensacional trilha sonora deste jogo
Trilha sonora Espetacular!
Super Gradius
The fire stage song always felt epic
The music at 1:27 is so good! o_O
This was SNES's best shmups on the system.
I agree but Axelay was on par with this, imo.
Axelay was too EPIC!
Super Aleste (aka Space Megaforce)
Why does the video have audio desync?
SAME thing with me, I absolutely LOVED this game, the farthest I made it was the boss after the ice boss in the part where you fight 5 in a row or something.
@Teraforce88 Fun fact, the hit box on the vic viper is as big as the little pod with the pilot inside!
Astronauta Marcos Pontes eu tenho orgulho de você.
Fantástico juego de naves
Da hora a trilha sonora deste jogo!!!!
Some enemies and weapons are from Salamander
Noob question, I just started playing this game and understand how the power ups work except for the shield. What button(s) do you press to activate your shield? Do you have to have all powerups before activating it?
+DrVanNostrand01 No You only have to have it on Shield and its the same button you use to activate/ other items also.
Reminds me of when my dad and I played this in the early 90's. We hated the third boss so much, two hours to beat Twin Gorgon and raged when his body blew apart and we died to it. We beat the game, but my dad REALLY hated that crystal boss.
Man!Whoever this is they have got mad gameplay skills.
A moment of silence for all of those who never passed the game 😔 after the plant level that's it for me. That fast level is insane. I've made it to that boss and die quick😂
I love the energy laser, you can charge it into a big load
I love gradius
Hope they will have a re run of the game or they can add a Gradius 6
No Ultima is on steroids nobody else could have that level of skill. Either he is on steroids of he is Tom Hanks the greatest video game player of all times.

Just amazing how you beat all these games.
Yesssssss. God, that was bugging the hell out of me.
man I thought I had caught all o the longplays. Well, I'll be enjoying this one as well as the others.
@8:22 I was hoping he would go into the secret area.
The 30 people who disliked this could never get past the first boss on Easy.
good job men👍👍👍
Good play through...and playing on hard as well. (Nods head in approval)

i always did on hyper speed, level, never made it past it. but came close one day.
It always sucks when you loose your weapons near the end of the game. It's almost impossible
10:55 Nice music
Never had this, is the 2 player mode simultaneously?
+Endymion Thank you for your reply. I really appreciate it.
+Endymion The arcade one doesn't. The only Gradius games that have simultaneous 2-player mode are Salamander/Life Force, Salamander 2, Gradius Gaiden, and Gradius V.

is it me or do a lot of the sounds in 18:00 sound like Samus fighting mother brain?
This game was Awsome :D
Could never beat this game so difficult and frustrating
Super Nintendo really went all out with their games in terms of graphics and sound.
Hoping that Nintendo will move this game on devices😍😍
I thought you'd do the secret level from the bubble planet...
1. Hit "Pause"
2. Up, Up, Down, Down, R, L, R, L, B, A
3. ???

All fear the Aircraft Carrier and it's storage of large ships.
Só assim pra mim ver o final desse jogo!!!

Would anyone happen to know any of those boss names?
This is the hardest fucking game of all time.
What game is your thumbnail from? It's bugging the shit out of me because i can't remember it.
that was sick
