A game for children that explored the unfathomable depths of human grief and the transience of life. The saddest part about it was although you could complete your entire journal, as soon as you turned back time everything you did was undone and there was no way to help everyone in a single run because many side-quest plots conflicted timewise. It taught me a tragic lesson about life at a very young age.
Actually the end credits imply all the good you did merged into one mostly happy ending for (almost) all the inhabitants of Termina. Based on the masks you obtain. If you didn't get the mask, instead of the cutscene during the end credits, you get the mask spinning in darkness. And no matter how close to 6 a.m. on DoomsDay, as long as you walk up the clock tower to face Skull Kid, you're given 5 more minutes to do something
@@zombies4evadude24 What is up with that, by the way? Why don't we get to see them and know they're okay? I seriously can't understand it and it ruined the game's ending for me.

He felt sorrow and regret b/c he felt like he died a failure, and because he died at the height of his fame and pride. He needed to be reminded that he lived, died, and would still be remembered as; a leader, a brother, and a hero.

I always saw it as Link Healing Darmani’s sorrows. Reminding him just because he died, he’s not a failure and all of the Gorons still love him, adore him and still consider Darmani their hero. "What a soothing melody. My sorrows are melting away." And that allowed Darmani to cross to the other side, putting all his faith in Link. Also the fact that all other Gorons recognize Goron Link as Darmani gave them the hope to fight through the timeless storm burying them alive. What nice touch, Nintendo. You really went in for the human emotion, deeply.
He died feeling like he failed. But he didn’t realized how loved and praised he was. Watching the gorons cheer for him, My gosh. I always cry playing this game😢
This whole game really tapped into some raw emotions. The melody of the Song of Healing, there is something about it. It’s like you can let go of all the pain and accept death.
Darmani is depressed, because he failed to save his people and the village. He couldn't move on with his spirit, until Link played the song of healing to heal his sorrows, and he finally moved on.
Musically this is brilliant. The song of healing is the same notes as Sarias but inverted. In Ocarina, you play Saria’s song to cheer up Darunia. Now in Majoras Mask, you play the opposite to put Darmani to rest. Beautiful
As a kid I felt some sort of sorrow when playing this game but i didnt understand what it was, as I grew older I understood what I was facing was my own mortality. Acceptance of ones fate after death is something we as humans cannot comprehend since there is no proof that we can compute after we die , seeing this event where this Gordon sees his tribe praising him for what he was brings a sertain sour note to us as humans because we cannot comprehend such concept. I literally cried on my first time playing through the game and seeing this. There's just something so heartbreakingly beautiful about this whole scene.
@@sdgdhpmbp yes I think he is dead. Great point that we probably knew but completely forgot about. I personally never even thought about that. Poor big goron died twice
I've played many Zelda games in my lifetime, but this is the one that really tugged on my emotions and it still does. Darmani, Mikau, and the Deku Butler's son were brave warriors whose lives ended due to unforeseen fate, yet they are respected for their courage in the face of adversity. To this day, IMO, this is the only Zelda game that relates to the real world of struggle and demise.
Poor Darmani! He can't rest and move on to the afterlife not until he help and save his Goron people. I can understand this pain of not being able to help loved ones. This game has tragedy, sorrow, resolve and all the other human dilemma that we experience. It really tugs into your heart when it comes to the pain of loss. He could only ask Link to heal his pain and pass the torch to him with the Goron Mask so that the Goron village can be saved.

Darmani had to face the truth. He can do nothing about it. But knowing that even after his death everyone remembers him as the Hero he was brings him peace.
I played nearly all of the Zelda main series games, starting in the early 1990s with aLttP (only skipped the two DS titles), and to this day this is still the most emotionally touching cutscene of the whole series to me (only rivalled by the LA ghost house) - a leader who always cared for his people, but yet failed them in a critical moment and feels huge sorrow over that, knowing he'll never be able to fix it
This scene actually makes me tear up Darmani was just a proud Goron hero that wanted to save his race from possibly going extinct from the cold harsh environment Goht had brought upon Snowhead but died tragically. He cherished his people dearly and they felt the same way about him as well. The gorons are some of my favorites in Zelda games anyways and it’s feels personal for me to defeat Goht in this game.
