I actually think the postman’s hat is a massive missed opportunity. Imagine if it allowed you to read the mail that you see the people in clock down deposit throughout the 3 days? That would’ve been a neat (albeit not super useful) thing to set the mask apart from the others, but nope. Just a heart peace and some green rupies (I mean I understand why they didn’t do that in the n64 version with the time constraints during development but it would’ve been a perfect 3ds exclusive change)
Ohhhh and those letters could maybe give hints as to where to obtain some items from around clocktown! That actually would be quite helpful, especially on a first play through
I honestly really love the hair of the great fairy mask. At that time it was very rare to see hair physics in games. And i loved pretending to be a great fairy as a kid lol
I guess on a technical perspective, that is pretty impressive given the era...... however, as a kid, I always though the Great Fairy in the N64 games looked pretty ugly. I mean, the low-poly models never helped, but the whole pointy-nosed, ivy-garbed aesthetic seemed like a wild departure from the more graceful (if a bit generic) gown look in Link To The Past. Though, I will say that Hyrule Warriors did a massive service for the N64 design.
I like the Circus Leader Mask because it's only purpose is a little bit of lore. It's cool that all it exists to do is show you the lives of three people. That this one guy, who you thought was just a miserable prick, was once this wide-eyed optimistic man who was inspired to go into show-business because he heard a song he liked and wanted to meet the singers, and how remembering that cheers him up and reminds him why he left the farm. Then showing it to his brothers reveals that those two thieves aren't as bad at heart as you've been lead to believe, how they love their brother, and how deep down they regret the way they've lived their lives while their brother, albeit struggling, is living an honest and noble life. To me, it's almost on-par with the Kafei and Anju sidequest for how its really beautiful and bittersweet, and it's in line with the entire tone of the game. If we were to take story beats into account, I'd rank it as one of the best masks. In fact, I ironically think that the 3DS version giving it more of an actual "purpose" detracts from its value.
The Bunny Hood mask was my go to mask in Majora’s Mask, that speed up ability was great because it didn’t use magic and it gave Link those bunny ears lol
I've worn that mask so much that it took years to discover that the stopwatch of the postman's event disappeared. I always look for the bunny hood as fast as possible and I use it every time , so I didn't even know it.
you forgot to mention that the Goron Mask has another reward attached to it. by using it on the Goron racetrack you can earn a bottle of gold dust which is a required item to completely upgrade the Kokiri Sword permanently.
HERE WE GO!!!! I’m ecstatic to see Majora live on in such spooktacular reverence, and the masks are so fun to wear in socially awkward circumstances! Blast Mask is a personal favorite, it’s cute with the skull and shielding in the wrong direction protecting you somehow is just hilarious to me. Great Fairy looks nice as well, especially with the creepy face and flowing hair, and it saves your life in dungeons.
I dont think I have ever heard someone say they prefer the 3ds Giants Mask to the N64 Giants Mask, I feel like most people pick up Chateau Romani before doing stone tower as the amount of magic the light arrows take is crazy and by that point in the game you should have the Romani Mask to get into the bar.
Yeah massively agree here, first time I've ever heard someone prefer the 3DS giants mask over N64. That versions mask and fight was a DISASTER in comparison to the N64
While this probably wouldn't affect rankings, I just wanted to add that the Deku spin in the Deku mask felt like a really good way of movement since it feels faster than Link just walking until you get the Bunny Hood.
The magic meter for the Giant’s mask is the reason why I drink the milk that grants Magic all three days before that fight. Seems like a waste but it’s totally useful for that fight and I take it with me to the moon too.
3:03 You're missing the bigger picture. By completing the quest again, Cremia gives you a very nice hug, so by utilizing this mask, you'll eliminate the challenge and finish the mission with ease since the Gormon Bros. will stay passive.
It's short but dense, it has something like a third less dungeons, and a more "streamline" design, you alwayse start from the center and attack one of the four directions, but the whole game can be built around the idea of cycling back to the start, something the open world nature^ of LoZ prevents. Even early, early games, had tons of screens patched together, almost every game focuses on branching out and going to temples on the very edge of the world, only returning to start to kill Gannon.
Hey, mask of scent is powerful for blue potions, great for speed runners. Also, the bremans mask makes the ikana soldiers march, and the captains hat gives you a special cut scene when its time to fight the king. Youll need to walk up yo him while wearing the captains hat
I’m pretty sure the Garo’s Mask also makes ReDeads do the silly dances. Since you learn about that functionality from one of the Garo’s hints, I’d say Garo’s Mask gets the edge over the Gibdo Mask for telling you how to defuse that nightmare fuel AND for being a tool to actively defuse it.
I think the couples mask is one of the prettiest mask. It's clean and has a nice sheen, and the design of it is a couple embracing which I think is neat
If Link got the Mario mask, it would allow him to jump at will, which would basically make him the most powerful version of Link ever. At the time, Nintendo remembered how powerful Link was in the Adventure of Link, and didn't want to unleash such a monster on the world again. so they denied him the Mario mask, in order to seal the power away until they were ready. Later, in Breath of the Wild, they finally found a Hyrule that could contain such a monster, and finally, Link was able to Jump again.
Fun fact involving Fierce Deity being so similar to adult Link: at one point in development Link was supposed to have a mask that transformed him into his adult form. This was scrapped likely due to the fact that Link can already use most adult items. The adult mask was changed into Fierce Deity.
Everyone I knew back then (when this came out) got the Stone Mask before Pirate's Fortress. Now admittedly because word got around, but your explanation is that you have to go out of your way to get it. You have to go out of your way for pretty much every mask (other than the required ones, and even those sometimes have backtracking). Since MM is a very open game where you are supposed to just wander sometimes, it appears to me that the Pirate's Fortress was made with the Stone Mask in mind. Years later I got the official walkthrough for it, and that one also recommends the Mask for the Fortress.
@@josephsharp6221 yeah sorry but is look like they took the model and shape it from plastic and putty it maybe a smoother model than the n64 model but the textures feel so fake I don't follow SMG4 anymore or plan to return but to say the redesigns really left bad taste in my mouth would be the case I respect if you like it but I am not and I not gonna lie about my feelings toward it
Considering the effort we make to obtain the Couple's Mask (especially in the N64 version where you can't skip to specific hours), it should have been a freaking overpowered transformation mask (the Giant Mask for example) , but no, you just did a very time sensitive 3-day quest for a piece of heart. Thanks Anju and Kafei...
Correction: You can get the stone mask as soon as getting Epona back, making it accessible being the Pirate's Fortress. Also, The Giant's Mask is WAY worse in the 3DS version. Like... disgustingly so. I agree that for the one time you need it, it could have done without the magic drain.
I played Majora’s Mask after playing Hyrule Warriors Definitive Edition got me extra curious about Ocarina of Time’s eccentric younger brother. (I’m referring to the game, Majora’s Mask) And I’m so glad I did. The Termina Map in the adventure mode pays homage to so many elements of Majora’s Mask. You can even unlock warrior costumes that are just their default appearances wearing masks from the game. Zelda had the honor of getting the Bunny Hood. Lana got the Deku Mask. Darunia and Ruto got the Goron and Zora masks respectively. Ganondorf got Odolwa’s Remains. Cia apparently gets Majora’s Mask. Probably because Skull Kid always wears the actual Majora’s Mask. And while Link can get the Fierce Deity costume, Young Link actually uses the Fierce Deity Mask as his weapon of choice. If you love any or all classic Zelda games, I recommend Hyrule Warriors. It’s a love letter to the whole franchise!
Note about the Captain's Hat: If you equip it during the fight with Igos, a cutscene will play where you stop fighting after he mistakes you for Captain Keeta.
Probably the most fun aspect about Majora's Mask is the sidequests. Most of them are rewarding and don't feel like it is just busy work, but in the original N64 game the song of double time only allowed you to go forward in time on 12 hour intervals, so there was a lot of waiting around to finish some quests. But most of the quests are unique.
I remember coming home to play my copy of Majora’s mask to just mess around with the fierce deity mask to try to be “an adult” again for fun ah memories
17:24 You can actually use the Fierce Deity Mask outside of boss fights by doing a specific glitch, but talking to NPCS after doing it will softlock your game.
If you are on 3DS with deity mask, you can transform into it at 100%. Simply put all your slots equipped with items that you can use such as grapping hook and bottle. You then go into camera mode, press masks, switch deity mask with an item thats usable then press B to back out. Press the camera put to put it away and the mask on at the same time. It takes a few tries, but it works even today. (if you do it in clock town, you can not leave clock town. Guards are buggy and will block you off from moving)
For usefulness I'd put bunny hood at #1. Mostly because I'm a casual, I like to extend my days but also min/max the heck out of whatever I'm doing, but it gets me where I need to go and always helps time management. Also, it is one of the first masks I get, so when it isnt equipped I feel naked.
4:20 The Giant's Mask works best in conjunction with the special milk that gives you unlimited magic for that cycle. If you don't grab that the first chance you get, then you aren't playing Majora's Mask right to be honest.
In the N64 version, you can get the Stone Mask as soon as you get Epona. So Basically as soon as you beatSnowhead Temple, you can do in the eastern part of Termina and fins the guy.
I'm amazed as a younger child I beat this game with all the masks and got the Fierce Deity's mask. I have no idea how I did it, but I'm sure it took me weeks. This is hands down the most intricate Zelda game ever made. My all time favorite after OoT. (Purely for nostalgia sake)
Once you are able to Learn Epona's Song and containing her, you can go to the fences of Ikana Canyon and you'll see a circle of rocks. Buy a potion of healing and use the Lens of Truth to talk to the soldier and give him the potion. Then finally, you can get the Stone Mask, which can be very useful when exploring the Pirates Fortress. However in the 3DS version, the invisible soldier was actually moved to Pirates Fortress, which makes it to where you're forced to pay attention to where the Pirates are so you won't get caught. Nonetheless, it's a very useful mask and its definitely worth collecting.
I just played through the game and I got the stone mask before the Gerudo fortress. As long as you have Epona, you can go get the stone mask. So basically you just have to have beaten Snowhead and can buy powder kegs to learn Epona's song and get the stone mask early as possible.
I think randomizer would have been a good tie breaker on some of these masks. Circus leaders goes up a bit because you might get it before wagon defense. Garo's mask goes down a bit because it's basically useless if you have the gibdo mask.
I know this is super late, but I'm like 95% sure that the reason the bunnyhood helps with the mailman's timer minigame is because it's a reference to his doppleganer in OoT the Running Man, who you originally sold the bunnyhood to.
You forgot to mention that the Garo's Mask also makes Redeads dance. Though, I think placing below the Gibdo Mask and Captain's Hat is fair, since aside from granting you access to Ikana Canyon in the first place, it doesn't really do much that those other two don't...... in fact, one might even argue that it's somewhat of a detriment compared to those two, since wearing it around Ikana effectively turns the place into an RPG random encounter zone. Still, anything that can turn the creepiest enemies in the Zelda series into a non-hostile, silly dance troupe is a massive benefit in my book.
Lol I didn't know Bob from SMG4 was just an enemy from majoras mask since I've never played the game that's pretty cool info to learn and thats prob why he got redesigned like boobkins so they are both original characters now.
Hey Odyssey, I know you love MarioKart 8 DX, did you know if you stay on the main menu long enough it plays a rendition of the original MarioKart music? I found this by total accident when I set my switch down for a bit on the main menu and then heard that music, it is a suck a nostalgic kick!
I love MM and can see fierce deity mask being middle tier since the effort required is every mask on the list but it is so amazing that it can be anywhere on the list for people
The Bremen Mask can also sort of be used to make the fight with Ikana's men in the Castle easier, since you can get them to march behind you. Quickly take off the mask and you can get cheap shots before they resume normal behavior.
I have to bring this up. You do realize that you need a Blue Potion to do the Bottom of the Well in Ikana, right? You know, the Trade Quest Dungeon to obtain the Mirror Shield and gain access to Ikana Castle? After that, it becomes unnecessary, but that Blue Potion still had relevance at that time.
The mask of scents does certainly help but it's not required, which hurt it. After thinking on it though, I would likely move up the mask of scents to number 23 now.
The song played in the milk bar is NOT the ballad of the wind fish. They call it that, but it's completely different. (Link's Awakening was mt first Zelda and I'm still mad about that in MM)
If i remember correctly you can use the mask of scents in the toilet at the inn in clocktower. I think it gives a heart.. or some kind of paper? cant remember tbh lol
I agree with the placement of the Giants Mask, on 3DS I'd probably rank it lower since it makes what I thought was a fun boss fight on 64 into a chore.
I like how he says "this video is based on the N64 version" and gives the circus leader's mask a spot above the mask of scents because of its application in the 3DS version...
I have a soft spot for the Stone-Mask and I'm always happy when it ends up relatively high. :) Being placed behind the Transformation-Masks and the Bunny Hood is somewhat expected and no shame whatsoever.

21:56 is supposed to reference the Kitsune Mask. Keaton himself is a kitsune. Approximately 300 years old
For usefulness I'd put bunny hood at #1. Mostly because I'm a casual, I like to extend my days but also min/max the heck out of whatever I'm doing, but it gets me where I need to go and always helps time management. Also, it is one of the first masks I get, so when it isnt equipped I feel naked.
I shall now die peacefully knowing the origin of bob from smg4
18:55 it Was So Funny when you took damage after dolphin jumping XD
stone mask is probably my favorite. It's hability to become invisible makes the game so much easier and faster, it's as good as bunnyhood mask
It’s funny that this guy loves everything the 3ds remake did even though everyone else hates it. Like the soldier man was fine.
I honestly never played much of a Zelda game so this stuff is all gonna be new to me

The Giant's Mask works best in conjunction with the special milk that gives you unlimited magic for that cycle. If you don't grab that the first chance you get, then you aren't playing Majora's Mask right to be honest.
1:03 "Circumstantial" is probably a better word.
As an smg4 fan, I use to think the Garo were just a special type of enemy, but now all I see is bob
Great use of the games background music associated with each mask rank / use.
In the N64 version, you can get the Stone Mask as soon as you get Epona. So Basically as soon as you beatSnowhead Temple, you can do in the eastern part of Termina and fins the guy.
Not only the Fierce Deity set returns in TOTK, but is no longer amiibo-locked (you can get dupes of each part of the set even)
I'm amazed as a younger child I beat this game with all the masks and got the Fierce Deity's mask. I have no idea how I did it, but I'm sure it took me weeks. This is hands down the most intricate Zelda game ever made. My all time favorite after OoT. (Purely for nostalgia sake)
You can definitely get the stone mask in N64 version before Gerudo fortress in Great Bay
16:31 omg I jumped x'd.
3:53 this might just be in the 3DS version but if you roll you can pick the magic up.
I know this is super late, but I'm like 95% sure that the reason the bunnyhood helps with the mailman's timer minigame is because it's a reference to his doppleganer in OoT the Running Man, who you originally sold the bunnyhood to.
Just so you know, you’re the best TH-camr ever
How dare you?!? Super Mario Galaxy is a goddamn classic!!!
not even that but overall one of the best games ever made
@@berserk7701 amen to that.
1:03 PIGSTEP
Lol I didn't know Bob from SMG4 was just an enemy from majoras mask since I've never played the game that's pretty cool info to learn and thats prob why he got redesigned like boobkins so they are both original characters now.
bruh l moment
Calling the 3DS Giants Mask better than the N64's is a bigger crime than your opinions on Mario Galaxy
I like the gormans mask because there is a chance to get a face full of bosom after doing the wagon quest, and the mask makes it easier.
"You technically can get the stone mask early, but, It requires going out of your way to get it."
Yeah, we call that exploration.
Should’ve been a video about making garten of banban characters as spirits
Hey Odyssey, I know you love MarioKart 8 DX, did you know if you stay on the main menu long enough it plays a rendition of the original MarioKart music? I found this by total accident when I set my switch down for a bit on the main menu and then heard that music, it is a suck a nostalgic kick!
Fun fact you can use the Bremen mask can be used in the fight against iglos du ikana fight with his 2 skeleton guards
So real for posting a Majoras Mask video the day after Tears of the Kingdom. This game is the true goat of Zelda games.
I love MM and can see fierce deity mask being middle tier since the effort required is every mask on the list but it is so amazing that it can be anywhere on the list for people
"What a nice guy, that Link"
The Bremen Mask can also sort of be used to make the fight with Ikana's men in the Castle easier, since you can get them to march behind you. Quickly take off the mask and you can get cheap shots before they resume normal behavior.
Where are you at in totk now?
Did three dungeons so far and got like ~110 shrines.
@@Odyssey_Central Nice
After playing all of the Zelda games, Majora’s Mask is still my favorite of all time
18:44 not in the 3DS version.
Bob from SMG4 is from majoras mask? Wow. Neat
The Bunny Hood's effect in the postman game might be a refrence to the running man in oot who shares the model
Hey odyssey I was wondering, since you said you were going to do Zelda videos, how do you record them and then upload them?
I have to bring this up. You do realize that you need a Blue Potion to do the Bottom of the Well in Ikana, right?
You know, the Trade Quest Dungeon to obtain the Mirror Shield and gain access to Ikana Castle?
After that, it becomes unnecessary, but that Blue Potion still had relevance at that time.
The mask of scents does certainly help but it's not required, which hurt it. After thinking on it though, I would likely move up the mask of scents to number 23 now.
Strictly speaking, it is possible to use the Fierce Deity Mask outside of boss fights if you use glitches.
Subbed because you’re also doing an aesthetic ranking
Plot twist: pig mask DOESN'T actually do anything, links just mocking ganon and is being very committed to it.
The song played in the milk bar is NOT the ballad of the wind fish. They call it that, but it's completely different.
(Link's Awakening was mt first Zelda and I'm still mad about that in MM)
Same thing happened in Spirit Tracks.
11:33 wait like from totk
If i remember correctly you can use the mask of scents in the toilet at the inn in clocktower. I think it gives a heart.. or some kind of paper? cant remember tbh lol
hey how do you somersault in the air?

I agree with the placement of the Giants Mask, on 3DS I'd probably rank it lower since it makes what I thought was a fun boss fight on 64 into a chore.
I like how he says "this video is based on the N64 version" and gives the circus leader's mask a spot above the mask of scents because of its application in the 3DS version...
I love using Chateau Romani and just roll all over Termina Field in the Goron Mask.
I have a soft spot for the Stone-Mask and I'm always happy when it ends up relatively high. :)
Being placed behind the Transformation-Masks and the Bunny Hood is somewhat expected and no shame whatsoever.
