@@Scottyshiftsthe S197s had such a good setup with the Shaker system. Ford really lost it with the S550s. I just bought a 2017 with 18k on it and both door woofers are seized from the voice coils getting hot and deforming. So they make absolutely no low end.
This is really helpful, ive noticed what tends to break the factory speakers is a feature of the mustang where it adjusts the sound based off your speed. Its blown out both of those speakers every time. Honestly don't know why the feature was added of it just breaks stuff.
Keep in mind 6.5 are woofers and nothing more, they are only for bass. That's why they have the 3.5 mids and tweeters, so best to get component speakers. So installing 6.5 coaxial speakers will not play the highs. You would need an aftermarket amp or DSP to tune the system correctly. 👍 on video!
I have 2015 mustang and wanted to change at least all 4 speakers but afraid panels and trim won't go back the way it should. Believe me had a different car and the panels on floor boards were also coming loose cause of wiring for amps running to trunk. Sounded great but with some fucked up trim and not looking professional. Thanks for video though
Mine finally offed themselves after all these years (2015). What's the P/N of those Power Bass speakers you used? I'm looking for a PnP solution like you have here because I'm doing this out of necessity.
@@Scottyshifts yea I took them out, had to rip them but they had tweaters built in. Not aftermarket. So much so I didn’t bother destroying the rear ones. Now the two wires that go from the magnet to the speaker are extremely thin so the audio shop said eventually the wires will rip. But that there won’t be any difference in sound quality if I upgraded now. But I had to destroy the front 6 1/2 inch ones since the speaker is part of the housing and I needed the housing for my kickers.

@@Scottyshifts I did mine with aftermarket speakers. I had to cut a hole in the door grommet next to the adapter and run an extended piece of speaker wire inside the door to connect to the bare terminals. I briefly had the powerbass and really didn't like the way they sounded. Lots of bass, but mids were too shouty. These doors do better with poly cone speakers.
@@dyronpowell2724 i ended up with crutchfield sound ordnance brand p67cb. The tweeters are great, but you need to Dremel the a-pillar opening larger so their flush mount cups will fit. I tried them glued into the deeper opening and they were harsh. FWIW I also went with a DSP amp, and active crossovers on both mids and tweeters.

My premium came with good door speakers surprisingly, but I do have the 401a package. Only paper speakers I had was the 3 1/2 inch speakers

How have they held up? I heard the stock amp doesnt like playing aftermarket speakers loudly and will fry them at some point..
They've actually been great for me and I have absolutely zero complaints so far
So the before and after sound exactly the same to me. That might be because I’m listening in my mustang with blown speakers. 🤷♂️
Sound quality is always hard to capture on a camera but in person it’s a pretty clear difference in sound quakity

They’re plug and play actually so once you follow my steps you don’t even need to worry about wiring!
