    Great great sounds! When you set up all these scenes for a live gig, how do you determine the output level for each scene? Do you simply do it by ear? I was wondering how you can stay at the correct volume in relation to the band when switching scenes at a gig.

    • @BrettKingman
      @BrettKingman  2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      There's a very accurate dB meter on the editor and the hardware that I use to try to keep everything at -12dB in the unit, much the same way as you would in a standard mix. But when you're powering away on stage at +95dB in stereo, some sounds/levels will require a slight tweak. I can do that on the fly and save those settings if need be. The act I work with covers a lot of guitar ground and I actually need all of those tones for the 90 minute set. I could ride the Strat's volume knob all night and just use a Plexi 100W or SLP1959 (both are amazing at cleaning up with the guitar's volume knob), and sometimes I do; but it's so great to be able to just hit a footswitch and go to an old Fender or a Vox or a Dumble or a... It's endless fun, but I have to admit that it's SO fully featured the risk of option paralysis is very real. So I try to keep that at bay and just go with whatever sounds good rather than nitpick. Cheers, Larry!

      The built-in Preset Level tool helps a lot, but like Brett says the perception of volume changes as the volume and gain increase. Said differently, clean presets have more dynamics so they hit harder then decay quickly, where distorted sounds don’t have large dynamic changes, they just sound louder. The leveling tool has meters that really help us see the changes rather than have to decipher it but our ears alone.

      @@BrettKingman I think all the options are cool if it works in context. And it sounds like that gig almost demands it. And what you said about making on the fly tweaks and being able to save them makes total sense, and it's cool that the Axe FX gives you that abilty. The unit sounds great and appears to me (on the outside looking in) to be very well thought out. Cheers!

    I use quad cortex. Digital stuff is so awesome now !

    • @BrettKingman
      @BrettKingman  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I never got to try the Quad Cortex. I did write to them in the early days, just before it was released, asking if I could get a demo unit to film a vid and maybe write some presets, etc. The response: "Oh, another TH-camr..." Haha. Had to laugh. Hope it's working for you!

    Great demo Brett. I have exactly the same San Dimas HSS with hardtail in platinum pearl as yours. Love that thing but find the single coils particularly noisy. Humbucker is fine but anything else is significantly noisier. Is that the same case with yours? I was under the impression that the flat Strat single coil pickups were relatively noiseless but that's not the case with mine. Did I get a problematic one or is this typical? Muting etc alleviates the issue but would like to compare notes.

    • @BrettKingman
      @BrettKingman  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They're pretty straight up Strat pickups, Costas, although significantly hotter than normal. I use a simple gate at the input of the Axe to keep things at tolerable noise levels. Cheers.

    Bret how do you cut thru the mix when doing solos? do you rely on the sound guy to boost your level and do some EQing or do you do it on your presets?

    • @BrettKingman
      @BrettKingman  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Solo Scenes are generally 1 to 2 dB louder than the others, Luis. A simple drive in front like a Klon or SD1 (both available in the Axe) can do that job too.
