  • One of the most common questions asked of Martin is if he ever gets bit by the critters he helps and works with. In this video he will address that issue and tell the story of when he worked at Busch Gardens and one eagle "playfully" put all four of his talons through Martin's hand.

    Our Mission
    Founded in 1997 in Cedar City Utah, we are a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to wildlife rescue and rehabilitation, wildlife and environmental education, and the development of the Cedar Canyon Nature Park.
    Rescue, Rehabilitate and Release
    The Southwest Wildlife Foundation of Utah (SWF) cares for more than 100 sick, injured and orphaned native wildlife annually. Restoring them to health and returning them to the wild is our primary goal, but for those that cannot be released due to disabilities, the Cedar Canyon Nature Park (CCNP) can provide them with a permanent home in a natural setting while enhancing our visitors educational experience at the park.
    Informing, Educating and Inspiring
    The SWF provides over 100 educational programs reaching over 30,000 people annually. We believe providing educational outreach programs to schools, scout groups and community events, with focus on children and families, will make the greatest impact in preserving our wildlife, the environment, our public lands and our resources for future generations to enjoy.
    Martin Tyner
    Since age twelve, with a bird on his arm, Martin has captivated audiences sharing his knowledge and experience of his wildlife friends.
    At age nineteen, Martin was hired as curator of birds of prey at Busch Gardens, CA. He also worked in the movie and television industry training big cats, elephants, primates, sea mammals and raptors.
    “One of my greatest childhood fantasies was the desire to create a personal friendship with a wild eagle. I found myself with a love and fascination for these powerful creatures.”
    Martin Tyner is a federally licensed falconer, eagle falconer, wildlife rehabilitator, wildlife propagator, and wildlife and environmental educator.
    He has been providing wildlife and environmental programs throughout the western United States, to schools, scouts and community groups for over fifty years.

    I once had a Red Tailed Hawk grab my hand whilst changing anklets. It was so painful. My hand swelled up almost instantly, and I still had to finish the job. It was a very sobering experience. The thought of shaking hands with a Golden Eagle gives me the fear.

      Martin's Hawks and Falcons are Majestic Creatures, 4 holes in his hand, thinking about it is making me queasy, I found a sparrow in my house, my father died 2 days later, it was flying around the house, I was terrified, I am very superstitious about birds, or paintings or ornaments of birds, I would be too scared of Martin's creatures, not through superstition, the brute strength , the talons, beaks and the massive wings flapping would scare the hell out of me...

    • @tjthompson3270
      @tjthompson3270 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Well that's good to hear at least hehe ;) Most wild animals can sense if a human is there to help or not, and in those cases they will more likely give 'warning' bites or scratches when you handle them instead of using full force like when somebody is about to harm them or something so that makes a huge difference as well of course.

    • @Zeelian
      @Zeelian 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Them trying to bite and claw him is a good sign, a wild bird that doesn't try to fight or resist in any way is usually in really bad shape.
      Them trying to bite and claw shows there's still life and fight left in them.

      Seriously? Did you know that the largest eagle is a harpy? Out in the jungle, Harpies hunt sloths, grown sloths. They can even glide and fly with prey almost their size. In mongolia, there are subspecies of golden eagle witch are used by falconers in a tradition amd will usually hunt wolves with their golden eagles. The first golden eagle flys up to scout, then it hunts the wolf down whilst trying to kill it, then comes the other eagle and secures the prey though not often is the prey alive

I have scars up and down my arms, mostly from the nails (talons, in your case), but I have a few from bites. I’ve also been spurred several times by roosters. Nice puncture wounds.🤦🏻‍♀️ I feel it when it happens, but I don’t realize how bad it is until after I’m done handling the bird that got me. That’s when it starts to hurt/burn. lol I have a prescription antibiotic ointment I treat the scratches with, as I got a serious case of cellulitis from it once. Bird feet are incredibly dirty and I can’t risk the use of my hand again. 👎
    Great video! Glad to know there wasn’t any serious long term damage from the talons through your hand! I can’t even imagine how badly that hurt - getting “got” by a HUGE bird like an Eagle. (And the treatment! Doc should’ve numbed you for that procedure, imo.) I was wincing just hearing you tell the story.
    Take good care!😃👍❤️

    Hi Martin. I hope u dont mind answering this for me. A few buzzards have been coming to my neighborhood for a couple mos now, bc neighbor attracted them by leaving out canned cat food. They land on my roof and even my car!!! I chase them away n try to make myself look big n scary, but they come back. Im only 5’ tall. Lol. Should I call DNR or a different organization? Im hoping they will trap them and relocate the wake. I hear them every day now, so I believe they have moved nearby.
    I used to throw out stale bread for the little birds, but Ive stopped it. Do u know if the vultures would eat the bread?
    Anyway, you handle these birds so lovingly, it is really a beautiful thing to see.

    I think some doctors do things to hurt you intentionally. Once after a bad bout of diarrhea this ER doc put a med on his gloved finger and shoved it up my whowho. I screamed. I heard him say, "there's blood there". I know there are less invasive ways to find blood. Lancaster General. Lancaster Pa.

    100% in agreement with you, antibiotics just wipe out every form of bacteria which will then take years to rebuild. Recent studies show the absolute extreme importance of bacteria in our body, especially gut bacteria. A condition called dysbiosis (imbalance) is believed to contribute to chronic inflamation which is thought to be the leading cause of several autoimmune diseases

    Is it possible to hold a trained/domestic eagle without arm protection with minimal damage. Or would their talons go directly through your arm. Like in an emergency you had minor bandages or need to get staples, reattach arteries, ect...
