On January 6th, 2020, Susan and Martin visited the Utah Department of Wildlife Services to drop off two Golden Eagles that did not survive. They also picked up a Golden Eagle that had been hit by a car.
The eagle was originally found lying on her side on the road. The eagle was moved off the road and woke up somewhat and was picked up by the Utah department of wildlife services and Martin was called. At first glance, Martin noted the eagle had been hit in the head badly and one eye looked very bad.
This eagle acted completely tame and docile because of such severe injury. Martin did not think the eagle would survive. Taking it day by day, it wasn't until six days later that Martin saw some positive signs of recovery. The eagle began standing and was able to feed herself.
On February 21st the eagle was released back to the wild. This eagle was the last rescued with our old Subaru Forester and the first released with the new Forester.
    Timestamps:
1:46 - January 6th: Martin takes the eagle out of the crate
8:05 - Martin advises why to "slow down for eagles"
    9:08 - January 12th: Update on eagle's condition
10:40 - February 21: Release Day, Martin takes eagle from chamber
19:16 - Began release at Parowan Gap
25:54 - The eagle is released back into the wild

So sad those other two didn’t make it, but so happy for the beautiful girl who was able to recover against all odds and return to the wild where she belongs. You can’t save them all but you can save some of them, and that makes it all worth it. Bittersweet. 💔❤️

Their self defense mechanism is their talons, not that they won’t bite, but they will use their feet first. In this case the eagle has a head injury, it can’t fight. Hope he gets the swelling in the brain down quickly

That was so majestic. For some reason seeing that eagle soar, and the music just reminded my of the Native Americans. They’re just such a majestic people. While a DNA test I took cake back around 3/5ths European, a little under 2/5ths came back Native American, and even though I had no idea I was part native, or even know from what specific tribe, this has brought me so much closer to those ties without a doubt. Thank you so much for protecting, and helping these beautiful creatures! May god bless you guys, and if there’s any way I can help I’m more than willing to. You can tell these people all care about the animals, so nice to see, I live in California and don't even get me started. There are animal lovers here for sure, me being one of them, but its just a nice change of pace seeing people doing the best for the eagle and not for themselves.

When you admitted you were surprised this Golden Eagle survived her first night with you - because her injuries were so bad - you confirmed my gut reaction to watching her. I've watched many of your videos for a number of years and they are never so lovey dovey when they are well. As a result - i have stopped wondering why they don't wish you a good-bye when they depart. I now know that if they depart quickly and fly far - its a testament to how well they are feeling and how sincere is their belief that they are happy to be free of humans! As you said - that's just how it should be! Great job with her, and i love you took the opportunity to enlist some more people into the club of "humans for eagles"! Hopefully they will slow down when they see one on the side of the road!

Beautiful bird and what a fantastic release in a fairy tale land! Thanks for sharing this story with us. Greeting from Slovakia, Europe. P.S. We also have Golden eagles here but we do not have such a spacious rocky landscape for them to live in. So ours build their nests on the trees in the mountains.

It's great to see someone have the passion and the love for these magnificent
animals like Martin does. He's truly a gift to mankind, and sort of reminds me
of the late Steve Irwin, who had a great love for crocodiles and aquatic life. It
gives me great pleasure to see this magnificent birds return to their home, and
the "only" way that's possible is thru your intervention and rehab of these animals.
I hope you continue to grow your organization and spread chapters thru the US
    and Canada. Good work :)

How wonderful that the last eagle you picked up in the old Subaru survived and was able to be released as the first one in your new vehicle. A great segue. And at least she had a full crop of food when you got her, so she wasn't starving on top of the injuries. I'm sure that at least helped her survive.
