- We're looking over the newly delivered Union Pacific FEF-3 northerns from Broadway Limited Imports. These HO scale 4-8-4 models come equipped with Paragon 4 sound and a built-In capacitor pack.
The cosmetics on these die-cast FEF-3's were gorgeous, however, I found the sound system to fall short of the hype. Check out the video for further analysis.

This is an impressive fef model, these locomotives do have a steep price listed for them when compared to other BLI 4-8-4 models but I do like the locos with the "two tone grey" paint scheme.
I picked up the unlettered version of this to do an 844 freight version. I think I put the engine on the track for maybe 3 minutes before I took it off the track, removed all the electronics, and began installing an ESU Loksound V5 with the 844 sound file. It sounds much better now, and has a lot better performance to boot.
I hope someday BLI will take a hint and make their engines either DCC-Ready or add ESU/Tsunami2 to them. I think they'd be surprised on how much more they'd sell.
To be honest, that’s a great idea because if users are new to Broadway Limited, DCC ready models are a necessary model for users to use and they have the option to add a DCC sound decoder if they wish to install later

That sound... that sound... disappointing, but it was obvious. And that start up acceleration to speed step 1 - like by a toy train... The biggest weakness of this model is decoder... The beautiful model needs just ESU LokSound and will be perfect... 😊
It would be wise to just ditch the paragon sound system and go with ESU.
Does anybody know how prototypically accurate the pre-2013 (W/ Mars Light) #844 model is? Specifically the marker lights on the tender. I currently own the Athearn version and I'm thinking about picking up one of these but I'd rather not if it's less accurate.
I really wish they would sell one dcc ready. Sound is junk and getting replaced with esu v.5
Good looking engine but another sound fail! Why can't manufactures understand the chuff sound on the prototype comes out of the stack,NOT the tender. There is enough room in the smokebox for a sugar cube speaker even with a smoke unit in there as well. Apart from that, a very good looking model spoiled by that horrible sound, very synthetic yuk.

I would like the products made by broadway limited if I could purchase them directly from their website and I’d like the company even more except I can’t cause every time I would call their main office with questions I’d always get some stupid ladies voicemail when I would call during business hours
train world is out the normal guys pocket he wants a minimum order here in the uk of 150.00 pounds so much for trying to buy 3 wagons from them
