The only bad thing about your videos is that you dont make enough of them. Each and every one of your video has a book of information presented in the most concise and understandable manner. The topics you go over in your videos are so well understandable across the elo spectrum, right from the low elos to the high elos. You share insights and game knowledge that no other pro player is willing to share at the moment. If I could give one feedback then it would be to ask you to make more such videos. I still havent even started the video but I know its going to be full of useful game knowledge. Thank you for the great content.
These videos take around 40 hours of work to make, so it's just impossible to make too many more. 1 like this per month is probably reasonable, but it can cut into my time streaming. It's also sometimes difficult to come up with a topic. I can't force myself to make the script for these, otherwise the result isn't as good. Next longer video will be an overview of the Chinese civilization which the script is done for. Will be out probably late November! In the meantime, I should have two shorter videos coming soon!
@@SurvivalistAoE 40 hours sure is a lot of work. So I understand why you cant pump out lots of videos like other content creators. But I just wanted to let you know that your efforts towards the educating amateur players is well appreciated. Do take your time and come up with the stuff you come up with.
i too think he should make more videos but they take a bit to make. in the meantime between videos though, i would recommend checking out his twitch channel. he does coaching, rec reviews, labs build orders, and also just generally plays aoe2. all of these make it a pretty good experience for someone who is trying to just watch a bit of high level aoe2 or actually trying to learn something.
I would just like to add, that likely it's not so much that pros are unwilling to share, it's that Survivalist is just exceptionally good at explaining it in the way he does =). Because like you said, he explains it in a way that is understandable and useful across all ELO levels. Which is a rare ability indeed.
I was waiting for this video! This is awesome. Some very good points in the video. Realizing that killing villagers later in the game is less worthwhile than saving your gold army is something I learned. A lot of things to think about. Thanks for this!
really great point about the endurance, the mental stamina. these long post imp games where ure having to pay attention to 5 things at once at almost all times is very draining and havin more mental endurance than ur opponent who will also have the same problem will make a big big difference.
I watched the videos of some of the pro players highest up on the ladder but you scatter so many examples around, anecdotes of situations to relate to and underline the messages with it that makes them much more interesting and informative for some pleb like me. Really good stuff!
Really great video, you helped me realise I often build my castles defensively on lower ground in range of trebs if my base is surrounded by hills and I can't get a castle on the hill
Again a super awesome video! I really like your focus on explaining things. You dont just say what to do, but you explain why you do it. This really differs you from other aoe2 channels. To grow your channel I would heavily suggest providing subtitels in other languages like you did with the 4 Part "How to improve at Aoe2" guide. I really hope you grow a lot in the future, so you can continue doing your awesome work.
Spanish + Chinese subtitles will be coming, but they just take time to produce. I don't have people working full time on these, so they get done on their time.
This is a great video! Thank you for this. One thing I have started doing is getting architecture upgrades, buys that extra seconds with castle not going down as quickly.
Man, I was searching for this kind of tutorials. I'm a french baguette 🥖 and we don't have streamer to learn this little insight that make you good. Thanks you from the deep of my heart ❤️ Bless you bro
Conserve army strength in late game is really good tip, I recently lost 2v2 game where we were slowly losing and I thought that best idea would be to send part of my army to raid and because of that I did not had numbers for later enemy push.
Survivalist: "Setting a bunch of stables' rally points in the opponent's eco and just queuing 3 million Hussar is a viable way..." Hera: "And I took that personally..." Always good tips in your vids for all levels :) Great job, Survivalist.
Hah, this is something that irks me a lot about AoE 2. I find the late game macro scale more fun than the rest of the game's micromanagement. "Oh no 4 archers and I have no barracks I'm doomed."
2:16 Don't really get the 600F 200G there^^ Bracer cost 300F 200G, the same for chemistry so in total 600F 400G Awesome video otherwise :) Thanks a lot for the insights!
Ah yeah, there were a few mistakes with the editing. I didn't notice that one, but Byzantines is spelled "Bizantines" (Spanish spelling?), and armys should've been armies at one point.
@@hiiwave11 Usually you can't afford all these upgrades on imp. Arbalester upgrade takes a lot less time to research, so saving that one for later is fine. It's better to prioritize the other two.
Could you advise when is the appropriate time to do each archer armor for archer play in general? I usually do the 1st in castle age and the rest in mid imperial. Not sure if it's good practice.
I prefer late game a lot to early fights 11. I primarily play team games and win on team ratings with 2000 elo regularly and evenly. In 1v1 I lost to 1000 elo hard unless it is a closed map. And the reason I guess is that I was doing pretty much all the things mentioned in this video
This is true. If the map has a lot of gold, like gold rush, you can do double gold compositions sometimes as well. Trash units do serve their purpose as a hard counter unit though, so gold units aren't always better. You'd still rather have halberdiers vs cavalry than champions.
I'm 1700 elo on Xbox with 2000 games played and didn't know conscription existed. Probably because I always go all in castle but lately I've been going imp + hussar and I feel dumb for not knowing about this tech.
This video has nothing to do with single player campaign games. It's for competitive gamers that play online. If you like me love to beat hard campaigns from time to time, this video is very little of use. But of course die hard AOE2 player forgot to mention that.
@@forsakenquery Towers don't really kill hussar fast enough. You mainly have to garrison your villagers in castles/town centers and then bring some army back. Usually setting your rally points and sending a few halbs or your own cavalry will do the trick.
I always think I should research champion line going into late imp but the upgrades are so expensive, and take a lot of revisits to the barracks if you are still at militia. Also worth pointing out what units pair well with champs, they seem to get eaten by hussar. I also rarely ever see pros making champs in this way. Could be worth its own video.
Moving faster means you can do more damage before the halbs/other enemy units catch you. It also gives your opponent less time to react even if they do spot the raids coming in.
@@SurvivalistAoE i guess this mostly holds true for higher level, where players tend to spot incoming hussars early. on lower level it's often not noticed until the alarm sound. and from this point blast furnace increases your damage probably way more than husbandry would. admittedly, bf is way more expensive than husbandry and requires iron casting first

Have to second this, this is the best educational AoE content directly aimed at helping players improve, period. And its not close.
Best AoE2 channel for learning and improving, this channel deserves 100x the subs it currently has

AH, tha age old "just keep sending in the ponies" strategy, an absolut favorite.
As always, hands down the most useful informative videos about AoE! Would love to see a similar video touching on the team games aspect!
I don't play TG at all, so unfortunately that won't happen. It's like learning an entirely different game :D

Was a mistake in the editing.
Also, the arbalest tech itself could be added too
Great video, the only thing i've noticed is that Bracer and Chemistry combined have a cost of 600 Food and 400 Gold

Question, Does fletching, ballistics, thumb ring, also impact skirmisher, or just archers?
Yes, all of those techs affect skirmishers as well.

Great video, thanks for sharing 👏
what to do in rare case i float gold in lategame? i usually make cavalier then instead of hussar, but im unsure if thats really a good idea
awesome video, thank you!!
I think if your second unit isn't a trash unit but is a champion or champion like unit then it can often work out as they really don't cost much gold.

13:36 imagining spelling Byzantines wrong
I would never ;) One of the downsides of outsourcing the editing. I should've paid more attention when I was checking things before uploading though.
Brainless hussar spam FTW is both my only late-game plan and action. (jk, but actually not that much, lol)

Anyone knows?
There are no mods. Just the regular/CA UI.

Castles, TCs, and walls with anything except palisade walls
