The first step to avoiding dieing or losing IMO is to NEVER GIVE UP. Some situations are clear and inevitable and youre saving time. But dont give up you could comeback or your opponent makes mistakes!
I just got archer rushed so hard, he went all in and had like 25 Ethiopian archers. He pushed me to the edge, I was about to resign but he came back to do some economy and boom, 2 mangonels shot him twice and his army were gone. He deleted his TC and resigned lol.
Thank you for all the great content Hera! What a champion you are. Being #1 on the ladder and giving all kind of tipps to all the plebs is just so nice
Awesome video Hera, great tips !! Love the "Push back before Imp tip" ! I agree with this approach and even if I fail to push back, I would mush rather choose to die trying to push back with heavy castle age push back than going up to imp with a ~40 vill lead but still get suffocated by castles, bombards and Arbs .
These are some good tips! I knew all of it just from watching lots of high level games but putting it into words and a structured video really helps isolate the actual techniques. For a lower level player defense feels counter-intuitive - I'm losing my base, I need to repel the attacker to survive! But it's more about "controlled survival" by taking calculated losses and buying time in order to win the game.
I once had a 4v4 Arabia where I hid an enemy villager in a mass of my Paladins that were on no attack stance. My team killed all traces of the enemy including tons of fortified walls. In the end I convinced my team the game was bugged and they all surrendered. I then surrendered myself and gave this guy the win.
Can’t afford a full wall? Then wall from a resource (preferably a woodline) to the shooting radius of your TC. Helps make feudal raids more awkward for the enemy.
Not sure if you saw the recent reddit post on market walls but you showed it suboptimal. If archers break the palisade they can range the vill, but place market on the outer tile it can’t
lmfao some random in comment section telling the literal currented number 1 rated player in world how they should be doing things. god people like this never cease to amaze me.
Im not digressing here, but I searched for all possible combinations an archer will fletching will not range a vill, and the only way I found out is if you replace the broken palisade tile as a corner tile for the market. Being a 4X4 building, that thing will have a tile diagonal of 4root2 that is 5.6, just enough to outrange the archer by 0.6 tiles. Again the vill has to be in the very opposite corner, and the situation and placement is very specific.
@@xw33b36 how do you think he became the no.1 player? Hint: He played a LOT of games and along with his own analysis, he listened to viewer feedback and then tested it out by... playing a LOT of games, performing analysis, getting feedback, testing it out by.... etc
just what I needed me an my brother have been playing ranked and I've almost always been getting pushed and thus video gave me a lot of insight thanks Hera
For me its playing as concentrated as possible, e.g. often when I feel like losing the game I end up winning and more often than not when I get overconfident and feel like winning I end up losing ;)
Love your educational/tip videos, very interesting stuff. Do you give us the REAL tricks? Or do you keep those to yourself? I'd be keeping them to myself for sure XD
Hera gives out so many good tips for free over the years, I guess he's confident in staying ahead with playing the micro like 2nd nature and in adapting to opponent strategies.
Hey there! Had to drop by to say that minute 7:16 is a classic 🤣 Deleting a villager then, huh? If that's what it takes for a solid defense, I'm all for it! (All in good fun, of course!)
My favorite strat is to just keep expanding outside of your under attack base Expand with tcs to safe spots and get that villager lead while the opponent destroys houses and farms
Honourable mentions: 1. Play a LOT. Like thousands, perhaps tens of thousands of games. 2. Be honest about your assessment where you could have improved each game. Hera was a good streamer before he became no.1 which gave him a lot of crowdsourced feedback to help him improve quickly, but Hera didn't get all immature and rage quit with excuses like 'they just cheated' or 'I just got unlucky with a bad map'. He was honest and analytical about what he could have done differently and then he tested out his theory in the next game, hence back to my first point.
The trick is to never let them get there. If you think a matchup is bad try to drag out this Age. Play a longer Feudal with two types of of units, play an even longer Castle with 3-4 types of units and keep on the attack. Coz if opponent hits imp you dedge.
Don’t accidentally double click a villager and send all your villagers somewhere, shutting down your economy. This would be stupid and I’ve never done this before
Thanks. Some really good pointers here. That last point is GOAT'ed. I dropped from 1650 to 1500 in just 2 days on Arabia. Facing some crazy aggression and market abuse. Feels like the game doesn't value proper eco balance and in general balanced gameplay anymore.
Good tips but don't agree with the last one. I'm a good defender too and regularly beat guys 200 elo points higher than me up to 1600 I feel first to imp is absolutely essential in some cases. Specially in arena etc where mass army can't do much raiding
Finally a how not to lose tutorial
Secret 1: Play better than your enemy
Secret 2: Resigning prevents from being killed by your opponent

Genius
Secret 0: dont play, so you dont lose
WOW, never thought this way. Smart@@TorecAOM
Haven't seen the vid yet, hoping 'wall in villager edge of map' is in there somewhere.
Hera wanted to keep that a secret

Finally the tools I needed to play Age of Vampires 2.
Man thats a quality joke 😂
My parents thought this was the name of the game for many years. 11

Real Pro tip: If losing, hide some villagers along the map and go do something else and forget about the game.

This matching investment is very interesting, I've never saw anyone talking about that, it could be also an interesting topic for a video
The "fair investment theory" is quite something on Sitaux contents ;)

I find playing Ethiopians and going crazy with outposts helps me build good habits on getting lots of map vision
I was just thinking "is there a video like this?" Very nice.

AWESOME video Hera! I was meaning to ask about defence :). Where's the ideal castle? Just on a hill outside his base? In his base on his face?
Nice audio settings 🤠👍

1:27 You get all the wood back when deleting an unfinished building?
Great video, could you do a video on dealing with a bad civ match up? i.e. Teuons vs CA civs meso vs goths, etc

Once a guy pushed me with towers in feudel age, how to counter that (I had no army)
as I understand it, feudal age towers melt when attacked by vills.....
@@jellevanbreugel325 wasn't aware of that, will definitely try pushing with vills

Can you make a short/brief video on how to play certain maps like which strategies are viable for certain maps.
