my predictions on the Tips: Dark age - Push Deer Feudal Age - abuse market Castle Age - Bait your enemy with a DauT castle and kill all his vills building the counter castle Imperial Age - Drop 80 Farms and go Hussar
The last tip- never looked at this like that. I was always thinking "Ok I got 100-120 vils, that's the correct number, now I will only make army". But you are right I don't need to manualy delate them if I can loose them in a castle drop that will put me forvard as opposed to just delating them.
Thanks for this video... the main part with any civ is ecnomy management and all your tips help in that, all tips are really useful for new players as well as pro players.
Hey Hera love your content bro! Just a thought when you refer to something like the hill advantage video or any other thing you already have a vid on you can put a link in this vid so people want have trouble finding it an it could grow your other vids. Much love brother appreciate ur content an commitment to aoe2!!
Hadn't thought of advantages of post-imperial age villager "over-production" before, but it makes a lot of sense. Thanks for the great tip, this will be the next thing I try to improve on!
5:50 "it's like you have a Ferrari that you can never drive and you're gonna die before you drive the Ferrari. That's what happens: you have 1000 food and 1000 gold and you're gonna die before you can spend it... *in game*" Damn that cracked me up xD
It's 1 for every age... not AoE II age. I'll assume an average life-span of 70, so we'll be waiting on those 66 other tips & tricks! I'm usually quite good at spending resources... though sometimes on the gold maps - shoals or even relic hill, you just want to take as much as possible even if you're just buying up to Imperial in a sense or to get that last few hundred stone or so for a castle. A friend has been doing Tartars... and although the bonus doesn't work (wouldn't really work anyway) for castles/towers (especially their bombard towers), I try to get this point across a lot. Sometimes nomad maps have enemies building their economy or T.C. in a vulnerable spot below a hill. Get to castle even and use that hill for an early mangonel push. You go from 75 damage to around 90 for generic civs & with Tartars towards 105-110. Quite a boost in damage against a T.C. whose repair rate requires 16-18 fairly efficient wood villes to keep a consistent wood stockpile!
Well shoot, I’ve heard to take your population to 200 but always to have an even split of 100 vills and 100 military. Gonna have to try with more vills
Really good advice Hera. I’ve been been playing awile and I haven’t really thought about it that way in post imp but it makes perfect sense. So often I do keep making vills but I always found myself deleting vills at some point but it makes so much more sense to be aggressive with them by doing reckless tasks because it only profits you if they get the Miracle mission accomplished. Admittedly when I watch pro games at still think that losing vills late game is still a casualty because you’re just trained to think that way naturally but you’re 100 percent right. Losing villagers for a high leverage move literally is zero loss for gain because at worst you’re freeing up pop space for military. Well done.
but Mr yo always tends to flow 1k wood in late castle age or early imp, it even becomes a meme in Chinese aoe community, they call Mr yo [1000 wood guy]. Not sure how he still manage to be at top 5 level with that floating wood
Well now I know what I'm doing wrong in Imperial Age... I keep making villagers almost entirely to farm and sell food for gold, or replace ones that died doing whatever they were doing Castle Age.
When do you feel it's reasonable to extend feudal age? Do you have to open maa? Do you go for dedicated maa or towers to support your archers/scouts? What about cumans? When is it worth to use the siege workshop in feudal?
extend feudal age when the guy has an open map, or you have a chance to do alot of damage. cumans is a special case with rams/2tc they can do crazy stuff
[Sorry for the Google Translate]. Hi, Hera. I'm an 18+ player, I consider I'm bad at playing archers and I have a problem with your feudal age tip. I learned to play playing cavalry, so farming is something I'm good at, but when I play archers something usually happens to me that I don't know if it's right. When I get to castles, I find myself with an economy for playing cavalry: a very large excess of food. In the last time I have tried to correct that "mistake", decreasing the number of farms I do when I play archers (stopping farming at 12-14 farms) and using the driftwood to make a house wall or to make a market). Should I go back to the "never stop farming" style? what am I not doing right?
I am 17++ and i feel exactly the same. Note that one thing Hera do is to move farmers to other resources. Don't stop making farms but once you click castle, move vills out of farms. Note that Hera usually build New TCs moving farmers as well
What you do is you skip horse collar so ur farms will run out on the way to Castle, and when the farms run out, u don't reseed them. You put the farmers onto wood. So you have a better wood to food ratio in Castle age. You don't need too much food playing archers.
Hey Hera, thanks for the content. Recently I've been playing Goths. I'd say they are very effective against any infantry civ. But how do you play Goths against an archery civ, like Chinese? What's the comp, the meta?
30 farmers when you're going archers is probably a bad idea, so 10-20 farmers or so since you're gonna have around 40-50 vils in Castle? I don't actually have the answer.

Damn that last tip was mind changing
These are amazing tips! The Castle and Imperial age tips are something I don't actively think about in my game (~1300 elo).
tldr: the only “resource“ that should be floating should be your _villagers!_
Hera: "wood alone doesn't do anything"
Persians with their uprgade to make archers cost only wood:
Trash bows are actually trash because you don't get bracer or arbalest as Persians so just go Hussar as ur trash unit.
Hera: boom to 140-150 villagers
Me: Boom to 140 vil and died to enemy's larger army. 😂
