  • With the new haircut, I decided to put out a new how-to video and show you how I style a pompadour with a drop fade -- using only pomade and a comb. No blow dryer. No brush. No BS.
For more information on products I use to style my pomp, you can check out these brands. Our promo code THEPOMP can be used.

I appreciate the fact that he actually puts in the time to review products and is simply just very thorough with everything. All that aside, he's got some of the worst examples of what pomp should look like.

You say that u want to keep things simple with just pomade and a comb but a little mousse or other grooming product on damp hair and then a simple blow dry would form the 'base' shape and volume for the hair and then a smaller amount of pomade is needed for final touch up. From a cost standpoint mousse, hairspray, etc is a lot cheaper than a nice pomade so the shaping process with the cheaper products will keep ur pomade longer lasting. I dont want to say globs but u put in a large amount of pomade which on finer hair will weigh it down also for those people who prefer a grease based (reuzel pink). Ur combing and shaping process takes a lot longer than my entire mousse, blow dry, reuzel, combing process

If you actually believe those comparisons you made are true, then 👏🏽 that's cool. Don't matter to me personally. But I do need to refute so my other viewers are not mislead by your claims. No. Your drawer of equipment is not cheaper than my jar and comb. No. You most definitely cannot style in less time than me (in a situation where I'm not filming while styling). Lastly using mousse and hairspray is akin to using a gel-pomade, 'setting' your hair makes it not possible to restyle it later on. And you will need to restyle it later on. I guess you can bring a blow dryer to school with you. Pomade is not made to require a blow dyer or pre-styling. If it does, it's a bad pomade. Choosing to include all the bells and whistles in your process is all good. Trying to tell other people the bells and whistles are the gears and motors is foolish and blind-consumer talk. You choose a pomade for its simplicity.

"and you will need to restyle it later on" why? i never have to fix/restyle my hair at any part during the day and no my hair is not a stiff helmet that gel/hairspray causes. it is very moveable (combo of mousse and reuzel pink) and i can put a comb thru it with ease to restyle it, but theres the thing i dont have to. and isnt restyling ur hair later on in the day count as part of the 'time' u take on ur hair just cuz u say u do it quick in the morning if ur fiddling with it later on in the day did the comb and pomade alone combo do the trick? and i am not telling anyone what to do with their hair but there are a lot of comments asking on what to do with their specific hair (fine, thick, curly, wavy, etc) so i was adding in my simple routine for straight asian fine hair. and emphasizing 'simple' and not be deterred away from a blow dryer

I've been using American Crew forming cream for the longest time. I needed to blow dry my hair, use a prestyler, and it hurt like hell to put it and and most of the time I needed hair spray to keep it from fucking up during the day. I just switched to pomade and I will never go back. Pomades are sooo nice and they make my hair look amazing. and that's using shitty dove pomade from the drugstore. can't wait to start using crystal lake. great videos! keep up the "No Bullshit", I wish everyone worked that way.

You just got a new sub from everything you said between 02:02-02:22 because I swear man there was one video I looked up, and I'm glad I cant even remember the name of it, but these guys had blow dryers, multiple special combs/brushes, trimmers, and whatever else. Long story short, by the end of the video I told myself a Pomadour is NOT the hair style for me--if this is really what it takes to create it lol. Plus, I like the part at the end where you finish the style off with your fingers--I do exactly the same thing. The style with the comb finish has never really looked good on me, and I know that now lol. Good job man. I don't have hours, or even multiple minutes some days, to just style my hair lol

Styling my hair with Fire and Brimstone clay right now! My pomp is looking amazing. That pull the comb out and layer tech works amazing for me. Also, I have thick, thick hair. I can’t get the product to my scalp if I tried. Maybe bring someone on the channel who has really, really thick hair and show us styling a pomp with his hair. Mines super thick so I feel I have to use prestyler a and a blow dryer.

i understand your view on not using blowdryers but for my hair, its not essentail although it sure as hell makes styling my hair easier. i have super flat straight hair and i just dont have time to wait for my hair to air dry, but with a blowdryer, i get a bunch more volume and obviously drys my hair quick. i dont use pre stylers or roller brushes arw anything like that. shits for coo coo heads

James (or anyone willing to help) what water based pomade would you recommend to me for my thick, straight Hispanic hair? My hair reaches just a bit past the top of my eyebrows. My hairstyle is a combover with a pomp in the front (I'm really not sure what the actual style is called but you know what I mean). I've tried uppercut deluxe pomade but the hold is too much for me, it leaves my hair feeling hard and it starts to frizz if I restyle it. I'd like something where itll leave my hair sort of soft, no frizz, and with volume, especially in the front. Sorry for the long read.

Good hair doesn't come from a jar. The question is, do you want quick hair or nice hair? Sure a strong pomade could hold down a cowlick for a couple hours but a blow dryer can make sure a cowlick/pomp/hairstyle stays that way instead of forcing it(hair lays better when its trained to lay a certain way). It's all good if you don't want to use a blow dryer but you're legit wasting peoples money and chipping away at the potential of what their hair can do by acting like a blow dryer wont help. Having them try all these products that promise that they can do all of these things when the reality is most hairstyles can be achieved with water a blow dryer and a tiny bit of product. A blow dryer can do wonders, many if not all barbers/hairstylists know this and I encourage anyone who actually cares about their hair to seriously ask your barber or hairstylist about it. A cheap blow dryer, comb and a jar of pomade is essential cheaper than investing in a bunch of pomades trying to find the "perfect one". Please educate yourselves
