    That white felt-like rag is to help remove the excess grease from the bits and you can place it under the tool to catch the liquid that will come from rhe tip.

      Ah thanks. I didn’t find anything in the manual about it and googling didn’t turn up anything either.

    this tool is famous for faulty motors, theres info all over the net about replacing armatures, read the reviews on this tool , people report immediate failures, if yours still works you were simply lucky

      I think what the core issue here is that this is essentially a chipping hammer that they added rotation on to make it a rotary hammer.
      The motor is unusally small just by looking at the tool not even disassembling it. You dont need as beefy of a motor for a hammer only machine but the additional strain when using large drill bits necessitates stronger motors.
      Bet you this is a repurposed hammer only machine in a new designed housing and rotation added to the gearbox.

    I have a cheap Titan hammer drill that I've been using for about 10 years, cost only £50! With 8J of power and 400mm bits, it has been fantastic!!

    Nice vid! If you think about it, it's the bits that do the work. Even a cheap tool works better with good bits. Even more so a quality one. Bosch uses a special hardening process you'll never get with cheap generic bits. Not to mention safer. Wish we could've seen you drill in hardened concrete. I'd love to try that model with a 3/4" 4 cutter drill bit. I'm torn between Makita rotary hammers and Bosch. I 'think' Bosch+ on engineering and design, but Makita + on quality control in manufacturing.

      Thanks! Makes sense on the bits. When it came down to cost, the Bosch bits weren’t much more than the cheap ones. I was stupid to go the cheap route initially. I don’t have any drilling projects currently, but I’ll keep in mind that a drilling video might be useful. I don’t have any Makita tools, but I only hear good things about them. I bet you can’t go wrong with either. I’m no expert though! Good luck! Thanks for watching!

    i have trade professional sds max, on the manual mentions the drill without hammer function that doesn't show, you only get drill and hammer, and doesn't seem your sds max has it either

      The manual for the RH540M indicates that it only does drill/hammer and hammer only. No support for drill only.

    • @stephenk3245
      @stephenk3245 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is true as this tool is more a demolition hammer and hammer drill. Not a drill with hammer and hammer drill functions.

    You never said how to take it from the spinning drill to the hammer

      Oh my bad. The vario-lock switch at the top controls the two modes (hammer drill, and hammer only. You just turn it 180 degrees to switch between modes. A 90 degree turn let’s you adjust the the bit when using hammer only mode.

    Look this is a heavy duty drill and in the future show this drill doing heavy duty work instead of simply chiseling soft rock. The video would be greatly more informative if you used it to drill granite or basalt. Demonstrating a heavy duty drill like the 540 doing light duty work is not taking it through its paces.

      Roger that. At the time, I bought the tool exclusively for chipping. It’s not a comprehensive video like you pointed out. If I take on a project that requires drilling decent sized holes I’ll post a video for people such as yourself. Thanks for the comment.

      Do you hav a lot of granite where you live? Most people just have old concrete to chisel out or drill in.

      @MostlyBuilds  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bryanrettig1859 there is a lot of granite where we live. I just haven’t needed to chisel or drill any of it yet.

      I just looked up this video because I found one of these today in the middle of a busy road. It’s used but still works.
