No More Color and Mental Vortex are two of my favorite metal records. BTW, "D.O.A." usually stands for dead on arrival, not "dead or alive". Im stoked they got back together and hope they get to NYC. haven't seen them since around '91-92. Great band.
TY for this, loved Coroner since high school in the late 80's but never heard much of their "lore." Saw them last year, it was incredible. The only thing that could have made it better would have been if they played in E standard like the old days, but y'know, older guitarists like playing in D standard for the lower string tension.
Marky is such an underrated drummer. Will be hard to come close to his genius when the album hits. He had a very groove and unique playstyle. While being tight, he always conveyed some kind of urgency. Something you may not notice, but makes this whole music unique on another level
It's so great to see footage that just wasn't available le to me as a rabid fan in Ireland at the time. They had virtually no coverage in UK mags. I remember my brother worked in a drum shop and beaking of school one Friday to meet him. He was playing No More Colour when I arrived. My life changed.
Great to hear another Coroner fan nerding out. For me Punishment for Decadence's 'correct' cover is the violin playing skeleton. Gotta agree with the record company on that one. I only ever knew there was a different one like a month ago. I'm like, 'the hell is this?' The sculptures are fine, but it's just not the same.
I bought "Mental Vortex" on tape when it first came out. I lived in a very small town that only had 1 record store. Whenever a new album came out that wasn't top 40 they would have it on sale the first week for $6.99 on cassette. I was instantly hooked. I discovered a ton of great metal bands that way. From Death, Pantera, Sacred Reich, Xentrix, Obituary, Atrophy, Nuclear Assault, Sepultura, etc. I was so into metal back around 1987 until around 1992. Anthrax, Suicidal Tendencies, M.O.D., D.R.I., Slayer, Danzig, Cro-Mags Sickofitall,, and a ton of hardcore punk bands. Oh, and King Diamond. I loved King Diamond's "Them" and "The Eye". I was the only King Diamond fan in that little town.
Keep the Heavy metal near to your heart and on the stereo you seem to be into the some of the same bands I love, especially Slayer Sacred Reich ...Coroner and Nuclear Assault .....Suicidal Tendencies and Sulputura 🎉❤
@paul.theeightiesluvr.1945 Sacred Reich was so underrated. "The American Way" is great through the whole album Definitely in the my Top 10 Metal albums of all time. Along with ",Danzig II: Lucifuge, Metal Church "The Human Factor", Obituary "Cause of Death", Slayer "South of Heaven", Iron Maidens "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son", Nuclear Assault "Handle with Care", Metallica "Master of Puppets" and Pantera "Vulgar Display of Power."
@@irenadaetwyler7384 there is an interview with Marquis Marky and some metal German interviewer from back in the day interviewing in German. Did Marquis have to switch to standard German or is that something you guys can do in person with other native speakers?
An amazing band, so technically and conceptually ahead of it’s time. Without a doubt one of my all time favs, Punishment for Decadence and No More Colour got my into them after seeing Masked Jackal on a show called Rage in ‘89 as a 14 yr old in Sydney… love my thrash and these guys are legends for me… Mental Vortex and Grin continued the amazing evolution… I loved their progression personally! Been waiting for the new album since 2017, guys I beg you please release it one day I’ll be one of my he first in line to buy it d/l it! ;)
I'm just absolutely speechless about this series, there's so much dedication and passion put in each and every one of your videos. I just discovered your channel and have quite some stuff to look into, i'll probably find some new bands as well.. Greetings from Switzerland!

Kinda funny how all the attention is on Marky and Tommy and Nice Guy Ron just sits there, smiling. Watched them and met them a couple of times in the last few years and Ron is the guy I always love to talk with (mostly about Rush, haha), though Tommy seems like the most talkative/communicative of them all, actually. I remember I gave Marky to sign me my Apollyon Sun "Sub" CD and he was like "WTF? Who heard of or listens to this in 2012?", laughing. Than we talked a bit about some 8-bit Coroner covers on the internet and he got really itchy to go listen how those sound. This is my favorite band and by far. I love each and every record with (ironically) "Grin" there at the top and "Punishment..." actually at the bottom, haha.
Grin is fantastic people: it’s not at all industrial which is what I’ve seen it partially dubbed many times in the past. Maybe the clips made first time listeners say this idk but it kicks ass...
In 1987, when I was 15, a friend of mine came home to Louisiana from the Summer in Germany with a copy of "Punishment" and "Colour" on cassette. He made his parents stop at my house ON THEIR WAY HOME FROM THE AIRPORT, put them in my hands and my life was changed forever. I wore out 3 copies of "Vortex" by 1992.
I was 17 years old I saw them in Oakland! I made a charcoal sketch of Tommy T baron. I remember Celtic frost. I’m almost 50 years old now but amazing Switzerland band. I ordered a T-shirt and sent wrong postage stamps but from Switzerland I received postage stamps back along with the T shirt! Really amazing whoever they were in Switzerland ❤️❤️ San Francisco California here
Tommy went to jazz school!! I knew it! Those chord progressions are pure jazz especially the ones on mental vortex. Songs like sirens and Semtex revolution have some spicy chords
Grin is the second best coroner album after Mental Vortex in my opinion. I wish they had continued in that direction, I would love to hear more even weirder Coroner albums!
DRIFTER,another great swiss band and also APOCALYPSE !! ALONG WITH THE GREAT GODLIKE ALBUM OF "CALHOUN CONQUER" Amazing, amazing Band, sadly they dissapear after a mini and a full LP !! PLEACE,if you like the best of VOIVOD,you will Love Calhoun Conquer,i promise, very unique and skillful !!
I'm still frustrated how this band wasn't bigger, but at least they gained a lot of modern exposure from Brutal Legend. I must admit, I was surprised when I heard Skeleton on your shoulder in the game. Whoever worked on the soundtrack knew their shit.
I tend to look at the compilation album like an EP and throw out all the not new songs. They also have a trippy electronic style album called the unknown which is cool if you're into their more ambient soundscape shit. Also I'm with Marky, they shouldn't make a new album and fuck up what's near to a perfect discography.
What I like about an album like "Punishment For Decadence" is the fact that even though they really are playing brutal and proggy thrash metal they still are kinda straightforward, unlike Voivod or so. Also they sound very sharp and clean like Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax or Testament and not all over the place like early Kreator, early Sodom, Voivod, Virus, early Sepultura or Wehrmacht. Don't get me wrong, I also like me some crusty, snarling production but this is cool, too.
Grin is a masterpiece. Funny that Tommy played in the horrible Kreator era, because he got Grin right. Grin was a breath of fresh air is a genera that was getting stale quite honestly, and of course imploded around this time. It gets way too little recognition. It was great of them to push the envelope and make an album like Grin.
I was at that concert from the one live footage in switzerland... Warum haben Sie so untypische Namen für Schweizer? those are unusal names for swiss guys.. Haha they talk in Schwitzerdütsch. I often see Tom G Warrior at Festivals or concerts in Switzerland but i'm unworthy to talk to him, lol
To make a great episode the discog has to usually be decently long and have a rich history. I can make do without either of those if I obsess over that band enough that i think i can make it a good episode.
I did not know this. Not shocking, I dont claim to know very much about all the bands I like. Late comer to Death's excellence, I was 11 when SPIRITUAL HEALING dropped. Thanks for the info!
For me it's Rush 1974 to 1981 and Coroner everything they did. Technical perfectionism.
No More Color and Mental Vortex are two of my favorite metal records. BTW, "D.O.A." usually stands for dead on arrival, not "dead or alive". Im stoked they got back together and hope they get to NYC. haven't seen them since around '91-92. Great band.

Good to see another true Coroner fanatic!
That feel when you're german and actually need the english subtitles to understand what they're saying. Frickin swiss...
Swiss-German is one hell of a language, and I say it as a Swiss myself lol (French-speaking part)

Dude you say “best of all time” for every band
Great band!!!! I remember bringing in "'Masked Jackal" to my guitar teacher to transcribe. Haha. It was like 1990.
This is 30 minutes of information my soul absorbed and is very greatful.

Saw them in Denver Colorado like '88. Great band!
The solo in serpent moves is one of my favorite solos of all time.
No More Color is the Best Buy all are so good. Nice to see a doc for these guys
Coroner are incredible. Brilliant musicians and thinkers. I love every Coroner album but my favorite is Mental Vortex.
Semtex Revoluation is my favorite song from Coroner that solo is just killer

Overall, this is a great video about Corner. An amazing band that gets very little attention in the mainstream.
Najlepszy zespół wszech czasów !!!
Dokładnie tak💪🤘

A fan since Day One & still my favourite thrash band by a country mile. Outstanding vid sir. Kia kaha \m/
Fantastic material, thanks a lot.
one of my fav thrash bands too.....extremily underrated!!
Great music, great band, great people. I remember the red eyes after playing...
Tommy went to jazz school!! I knew it! Those chord progressions are pure jazz especially the ones on mental vortex. Songs like sirens and Semtex revolution have some spicy chords
I opened for Coroner back in 1991 or 2. I forget. In Rhode Island. They were incredibly tight.
Grin is the second best coroner album after Mental Vortex in my opinion. I wish they had continued in that direction, I would love to hear more even weirder Coroner albums!
They always had a good sound and Tom Vetterli is a fantastic guitar player; he played good for numerous others also.
4:47 Voivod, Coroner and Watchtower. Nailed it. Then there's Sadus, Anacrusis, Deathrow and Skeptic Sense.
Their sound is timeless in the most literal sense.
The Necrophagist of thrash.
My favorite band of all time.
It’s crazy that this channel still has 31k subs (me included) and hasn’t done anything in 4 years
Highly underrated band and musicians!!!!!
Love this band!!!! Remember they actually would play the Masked Jackal video on Headbangers Ball back in the day.
If these guys made an album today I think it would be incredible.
Well, hopefully we'll find out soon!
Its meant to come out this year. It is recorded! But who knows@@mycubiclepenguin868
Marky hand picked his replacement, Diego is a long time friend of the band and fits fuckin perfectly

Son of Lilith my favorite ❤️❤️
You should do more thrash bands for these retrospectives.
I believe it was the Omni Oakland I saw them. Punishment for decadence
I'm still frustrated how this band wasn't bigger, but at least they gained a lot of modern exposure from Brutal Legend. I must admit, I was surprised when I heard Skeleton on your shoulder in the game. Whoever worked on the soundtrack knew their shit.
I think the album "GRIN" is one of the best metal albums ever!

2:17 What's that song??? Sounds really good 🤘
tsjuder retrospective 🤘👹🤘
Are they ever gonna write at least one "new" song???
New album will be release in 2023
Coroner and Type O Negative are the only bands that covered The Beatles right i think.
hundreds have covered the beatles
@@TheRetroDen80s he said "covered the Beatles RIGHT."
All of that is up to the listener, whether or not they like it.
D.O.A. stands for Dead On Arrival.
I think the negative about this band it is the sound of their albums I wish they could be remastered/mixed, etc…
I think even for nowadays standards the recording quality is great, at least for mental vortex and grin
Grin is a masterpiece. Funny that Tommy played in the horrible Kreator era, because he got Grin right. Totentanz means Death Dance
Their first three albums. Shelve the latter 2
Oh FUCK yes!!!
Exposed, cancelled, blocked, reported.
What is the first song in the background?
I was at that concert from the one live footage in switzerland... Warum haben Sie so untypische Namen für Schweizer? those are unusal names for swiss guys..
Haha they talk in Schwitzerdütsch.
I often see Tom G Warrior at Festivals or concerts in Switzerland but i'm unworthy to talk to him, lol
Their names are nicknames, actually their real names are Tommy Vetterli, Ron Broder and Mark Edelmann
Man, I gotta check these guys out. All their albums sounds like thrashterpeices.
good review.. btw decadence is pronounced dekadense
I wonder if he'll ever cover Demolition Hammer or Sadus
They wouldn't make good episodes.
maybe, but something tells me they would be entertaining
To make a great episode the discog has to usually be decently long and have a rich history. I can make do without either of those if I obsess over that band enough that i think i can make it a good episode.
in that case, would Defleshed be a possible candidate?
No
Excellent band. Insane musicianship.
Decadence is pronounced with a hard first C and a soft second C.
You couldn't open up with a better riff
Apparently death was influenced by this band

Have you done one about venom, if not could you?
I don't know what you are saying but to me, Grin is the most Coroner outcome

Satan retrospective at some point ?
Totentanz = german for Death Dance
DOA stands for dead on arrival no dead or alive.
