@@Quinceps You can just say, it's idiosyncratic style of metal music based on thrash and highly influenced by technical and conceptual borrowings from jazz and classical music, if you need a description. (Yeah, Tommy T. Baron attended to jazz school and it influenced Coroner a lot).
Ha! I've heard The favorite game when I was 14 or so. Straight away I knew it was excellent. Wonder why don't they play it live, it's a killer! It's a truly genuine music, with no vocal modulation, without the gimmicks. Just a pure set of unique skills Craft and anger!
Coroner was ahead of it time back in the 80's. So underrated. Tommy Vetterli still one of my top guitar players . One of my inspiration. Long live Cononer!
I think he is only underrated by idiots. Most intelligent people recognise him as one of the greatest electric guitarists of all time. 'Arc-Lite' is the song people like Malsteen and Batio dream of writing, but neither of them have the genius to reach that level. Most shredders play technique and never bother to learn how to play actual music. Malmsteen refers to his "music" as "neo-classical", but it isn't. It's brainless shred. Tommy T. Baron is a musical genius. His riffs and structures are like a surreal labyrinth. He is loved by underground fanatics, and they're the only people who matter.
I'd also add that Ron is an absolute maniac. A lot of his bass parts very closely follow the guitars, and he plays that crazy stuff while doing vocals! Ron Royce has 2 independently functioning brains in his head, he is truly remarkable. Have you seen the official 1990 East Berlin show? His vocals sound EXACTLY like the album versions and his bass playing is note-for-note perfect. Even among metalheads, I don't think he was ever given enough credit for his superhuman talents. There are a lot of metal bands with vocalists who handle tricky guitar/bass/sometimes even drum parts, but Coroner's bass riffs are like a tornado that keeps changing shape and direction. Really amazing stuff! What did you think of the drummer here? It seems like he was missing someone of Marky's urgency and madness. Marky had a very distinctive way of playing, it added to the chaotic vibe
Tommy’s leads are extremely well composed works of art. There’s no doubt he is a riff master but when he takes a solo he takes you places. It’s fucking incredible...
Tommy for me is one of the best Thrash guitarists, next to Alex Skolnick from Testament. I think the songs Sirens and About Life are one of the best compositions I've ever heard in thrash metal. That last one is incredible, that opening riff.
Couldn't agree more. I don't know how he doesn't it, but he incorporates jazz, classical, blues, thrash elements all into is solos. One hell of a guitarist.
For the guitarists who are wondering what amplifier head Tommy Vetterelli is using in this video. It's a Bogner Ecstasy 101B Metal Grille Valve Amp Head. He's taken the badge off the front of it. It took me ages to figure it out, so, I thought I would save others some time by leaving this message here. :)
I can't believe one of the quintessential, most technical and skilled thrash bands is back. They sound incredible, as one would expect. Simply outstanding. THANK YOU!
Its just partly the engineer - it all starts with the roots: If a band has knows how to play, knows how give their instrument a concrete, good positioned sound and, nearly mostly important, knows to arrange and to build up a common sound with all instruments respecting each other and giving each instrument that space that it requires - then, yes then you have that very rare enjoyment that we have when we listen to this band and this mx in special. As a sound engineer in such cases its like: Make your P.A. sound, set up the mics, bring the faders up - and your job is done. It is done because such a very rare band like Coroner already brings the functioning build sound architecture done by themselve. :)
They've been working on it for a while, which is why Marky left. He was cool with being a part time band, he just didn't want to get serious with it and do another album.
I'm sceptical the new album will ever surface. It was originally slated for a 2017 release; we're now almost in the last quarter of 2018 & still no sign. I hope I'm wrong, obviously!

Loving every second of it. The 'new' drummer is a beast, they sound like there's six of them on stage. Oh yeah and the setlist is just monstrous. When you're listening to a trio live, everybody has to pull double their weight and they do it effortlessly, that's how good they are.
