Ritchie Blackmore would definitely be one I would love to hear Paul take a stab at, I seen Ritchie in 2016 he is still amazing player there was an interview he had discussing Hendrix he called Hendrix always searching for notes, I have kept that in my head in my guitar journey
I'd honestly be happy with Paul Gilbert covering anything, incredible job on this album. He has infectious enthusiasm, ridiculous talent that seems to get better with age, a true guitar hero!
Ya he is a guitar hero for sure what I really like about guitar players like him randy roads Marty Friedman is they always were good with teaching there techniques and little secrets they have were a young Eddie and a young yngwie ( I love both of them iconic guitarist) they both never liked showing people there techniques and guitar secrets Eddie was really bad that way when he young he would even turn around before they were signed so the other guitar players who were the likes of gorge lynch and randy roads I find that crazy as well he would turn around so they couldn't pick up on his guitar techniques it's true 😅
Vivian Campbell deserves to be lauded to the stars and back for his incredible performances on the first 3 Dio albums. He brought so much of himself to the sound, the phrasing and the attack, the accents. Qualities that so many shredders don’t seem to see the importance in
I loved him in my teen years, I love him even more now - he grew up and improved "musically": he focuses on phrasing, rhythm, chords, SONGS (!) and melody more now than the flashy stuff - I really dig his playing.
Dio grew up a few doors away from my house in Cortland, NY. His bands played our high school and CYO dances. Three bucks to get in. Ronnie and the Red Caps, R D and the Elves, Electric Elves, Elf, etc.
Had to watch it again straight away just to see it was real and I was not dreaming the tone and clarity of picking is mental .Good so see the fret board on fire again cheers mate
Paul knows something we all hopefully learn over time. We learn something once we gain some facility in our playing - especially if you video tape yourself - playing fast is certainly easier than playing slow and playing slow with time, feel and phrasing that sits in the progression. It’s certainly not easy to get your fingers to move fast and it takes a lot of time and our egos think that makes us good. Playing fast does not make one good - playing in time, with rhythm, motif, phrasing and understanding the underlying progression makes one a good guitarist. Highlighting the progression with feel, and transferring an emotion makes one good.
Paul has the ABSOLUTELY BEST personality for a guitarist at his level, always so joyful. I think this is his real secret to what makes him such an AMAZING guitar educator/teacher.🎸
As good as this guy was 30 years ago he's still finding was to learn and renew his excitement for music and the instrument. Someone told me when I was first getting started that music is an endless journey I wouldn't cover it all in one lifetime.
Spoke to Paul one time at a guitar clinic. He was obviously jet lagged and very tired, but was extremely gracious and polite. That means more to me than his undeniable talent and proficiency on an instrument. Nice guy.
Incredible video, SWEETWATER.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Absolutely love Paul Gilbert, so amazing and his mind works so fast, and it all comes out in his playing. True Genius! Pairing him with Shredding Nick “The Southpaw” Bowcott, my favorite Sweetwater presenter and Guitarist. WELL DONE!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🎸⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Could listen to Paul talk and play guitar all day. His passion for the instrument as well as music in general is such an inspiration. Always makes me want to pick up the axe and shred after hearing him. 🎶🤘
I would love a guitar duo album with these two guys. There's such an easy groove and cool communication between them which really shows up when they start jamming.
If I could only listen to one guitarist for ever, I'd be pretty happy if it was Paul. Blazing technique and feel, but infused with so much intelligence, just like the man himself. I don't know think he has too many equals, and incredibly I think he's still improving ! Thanks Sweetwater
I have learned that playing the vocal lines has helped me to be more creative or expand my style 😎🎸🎶🔥💥⚡paul is as funny as it gets for a great player/teacher!!!thankyou🎶🔥💥⚡🎸😎☮️♾️✝️
His tone is him. He can play 100 different riffs and licks, never touch the pedals or amp and he NAILS the frickin' tone! I'm 49 and he gives me hope that I can be cool someday. ❤️😅
Great lesson this is a guitar player's record i have forward the video onto our guitar group, Paul Gilbert really explains this, listening Neon Knights capturing the voicing of Dio wow, but Tony Iommi he is one my favourite guitar players and Blackmore, but Tony and Sabbath had a heavy jazz influence listen to Wicked World that's jazz, I recommend Paul's record if your Dio and Sabbath fans , for me and other guitar student. I would love just hour as a student with Paul I would be a sponge ,
Paul Gilbert - A technical guitarist who attended rock guitar school! Consequently, when he is playing all these vocal melodies it's all just a bit dull and flat! It doesn't matter what guitar faces you pull on every note! Paul Gilbert has even tried to play the blues and that just sounded technical!
Paul has the greatest attitude, talent up the &@$ but yet seems so appreciative of the field he is apart of. His tributes are a reflection of that. I listen to his tribute bands with Mike Portnoy frequently. He even wore a wig doing the Zeppelin one. That took a total lack of ego and a bit of joy to look silly wearing that.
Me imagino este disco cantado por jeff scott soto y me derrito, estas canciones estan para cantarlas😊,aún así lo aplaudo por el gran homenaje que le a hecho ,pero escuchado un par de veces ,vuelves a las cantadas🤘🤘🤘
Paul Gilbert, Reb Beach, Nuno…were the next gen. players. Then dudes from Seattle showed the world how one could de-skill, de-flavor guitar playing. Then Britney Spears ended all of that.
24 fret guitars are better because they are a full 2 octaves per string. Thus 4 octaves total exactly! That is easier to wrap your head around learning. Why they went to less frets is mental.
Was that Joe Perry on Night in the Ruts? I'm lookin at the cd reissue ( Columbia 1993), And even though it shows Joe on the cover and inside the sleeve, It also shows Jimmie Crespo. Jimmie Crespo and Rick Dufay having famously usurped the Aerosmith guitar slots by " Rock in a Hard Place". Who knows.
I used to think Rick Wakeman (keyboards for ‘YES’). Was best guitar lesson in the world. Now it’s Marcin patrzalek or polyphia. Modern guitarist’ are NOT limited by techniques as eighties guitarist are limited. MODERN GUITARIST have adapted right handed flamenco techniques and ‘thump’ percussive technique. Which takes skill levels up another notch. While eighties elite shredders are limited (FLATPICKERS). Paul Gilbert’s jaw dropped upon seeing ‘ichika’ first time. Although they never admit. Steve vai admitted after making video with polyphia. Steve vai told Tim Henson (I can’t do what polyphia does) Tim Henson could care less tim loved conversation with Steve vai (plus Tim Henson knows all the Frank Zappa songs Steve vai used play.. Tim’s hensons dad was major Hendrix , black sabbath Frank zappa fan.. Tim grew up listening. Tim didn’t care the Steve vai couldn’t play polyphia Tim just wanted to make sure they became friends. Tim’s knowledge of Frank Zappa was incredible.

Full blown shred fest with NUNO BETTENCOURT! No Editing!😉.
RL Burnside and Junior Kimbrough
Dokken
Paul could/should do a David Lee Roth compilation.
I'd honestly be happy with Paul Gilbert covering anything, incredible job on this album. He has infectious enthusiasm, ridiculous talent that seems to get better with age, a true guitar hero!

Such a massively underappreciated guitarist.
His lick in Rainbow in the Dark still makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up.
@@jeffhodge7272the solo is a guitar clinic & my favorite early metal solo of them all
Agreed, and he was so young at that time!
TOo bad he wasted his skills with the death faking actor known as "Dio".
I could watch 100 hours of Paul and still want more :)
Why
@adhaskym.a9536 well PG is that good 😌😌
@@ibinTZYy yes he is
I loved him in my teen years, I love him even more now - he grew up and improved "musically": he focuses on phrasing, rhythm, chords, SONGS (!) and melody more now than the flashy stuff - I really dig his playing.
Paul Gilbert mentions Gary Moore in a youtube about a DIO all guitar tribute album - what a great time to be alive.
Dio grew up a few doors away from my house in Cortland, NY. His bands played our high school and CYO dances. Three bucks to get in. Ronnie and the Red Caps, R D and the Elves, Electric Elves, Elf, etc.

I love PG. He's the humblest metal guitarist ever in the World 🎸🎸
I grew up watching Paul’s tutorials!!! Thank you Sweetwater:)

No drums in the beginning, and I'm still banging my head. Awesome
Paul Gilbert / always so genuine and positive about his love for musical expression
Pual is just one of those guitar guys that just loves to play and keep learning. Love to hear him just talk guitar
Paul has the ABSOLUTELY BEST personality for a guitarist at his level, always so joyful. I think this is his real secret to what makes him such an AMAZING guitar educator/teacher.🎸
He illustrates so powerfully the insight that it's not just the notes, but all of the embellishment around them that brings their character...
As good as this guy was 30 years ago he's still finding was to learn and renew his excitement for music and the instrument. Someone told me when I was first getting started that music is an endless journey I wouldn't cover it all in one lifetime.
We need more Paul Gilbert.
Great interview video! Paul is a wizard. This video is a masterclass. Nick does the best interviews. He knows all this stuff too.
amazing conversation. Definitely going to sign up for Pauls course.
Spoke to Paul one time at a guitar clinic. He was obviously jet lagged and very tired, but was extremely gracious and polite. That means more to me than his undeniable talent and proficiency on an instrument. Nice guy.
Equal parts guitar freak & excited kid in a (musical) candy store. I adore Paul Gilbert interviews and clinics!
Love it!... DIO was my first concert experience as a kid and it changed my life! Thank you Paul! Can't wait to hear this album-
Paul Gilbert is simply infectiously enthusiastic, and so clearly loves guitar and all things music.
Incredible video, SWEETWATER.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Absolutely love Paul Gilbert, so amazing and his mind works so fast, and it all comes out in his playing. True Genius!
Pairing him with Shredding Nick “The Southpaw” Bowcott, my favorite Sweetwater presenter and Guitarist. WELL DONE!!!

What an excellent interview!!
Thanks for this interview; Paul is extraordinary.
Great interview
Could listen to Paul talk and play guitar all day. His passion for the instrument as well as music in general is such an inspiration. Always makes me want to pick up the axe and shred after hearing him. 🎶🤘
Please sweetwater bring Paul more
Thank you. Paul is always very interesting to listen to.
His endless enthusiasm is infectious.
One more shred album Paul!!!
One of my favorite guitarists. Between his fantastic playing and humor, how can you not like Paul Gilbert?!
Awesome! Paul is always awesome, entertaining and informative. Rock On
"The left hand's got it easy and the right hand's just...yeah I can't play that fast". Thanks for the laugh Paul!
Well this was a great interview. More like this please!
I would love a guitar duo album with these two guys. There's such an easy groove and cool communication between them which really shows up when they start jamming.
Wow maann!!! Great stuff, thanks a lot for this interview Nick and Sweetwater!! 🤘
Feeling in music. Paul keep on that one.

Thanks guys,,very entertaining 🙂🎸
He is such an inspiration! Awesome video!
Just listened to it last night, absolutely amazing!
Paul Gilbert very personable and I've never heard him swear
19:26 that’s Gypsy’s Kiss solo from Deep Purple, one of my favorites ❤
I freakin’ LOVED every minute of that! 👍🏻👍🏻
I have learned that playing the vocal lines has helped me to be more creative or expand my style 😎🎸🎶🔥💥⚡paul is as funny as it gets for a great player/teacher!!!thankyou🎶🔥💥⚡🎸😎☮️♾️✝️
Love the Dio album, but Paul's song "the echo song" is my ring tone. ❤
When are we gonna get a dive into Grim Reaper?
Paul Gilbert isn’t just one of the all-time great guitar players; he’s one of the all-time great guitar TEACHERS.
30:22 wow.. just wow..
Awesome interview!

This Paul guy is a national treasure.
George Lynch. Deep Purple Highway Star ❤ I’m 72 yrs old 👍🏿🕺🏽🕺🏽
Being Paul Gilbert has to be the greatest thing ever \../
Sweet Teaser 🤘
Being a professional drummer of many moons I absolutely love Paul Gilbert. 😊
Awesome stuff! Nick you need to host a guitar player’s round table! Have Paul, Phil X, Nuno & a few new young guns!
Paul insists on mimicking the vocal style of Dio but not the iconic solo of Vivian, which I think is equally as important to the song
jeff beck playing a vocal meldy untouchable , Paul has great touch on guitar can play anything
Such an inspiration! I do this with j-pop songs all the time. This is a masterclass
I would love to hear Vivian Campbell's album review of this.
There's a crackle in the audio of Paul's guitar !
Thank you, this is a guitar masterclass!!
Inspiring!
That was an epic intro

Yes, Paul, you've played not only a 2-bar note before, but a 4-bar note! And right after it, a 2-bar note. In Racer X - Ghost Dance, solo.
Paul is a monster guitarist
Please part 2
Paul is a top 10 player
Great album.
PG 🔥
Paul Gilbert needs his Own channel.
I grinned all way through!
Paul has the greatest attitude, talent up the &@$ but yet seems so appreciative of the field he is apart of.

Because Dio is GOD !!!!!!!!!!!! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Very good, keep it up!
Great vid love Holy diver album. Shame on the night was a classic you hardly hear and Paul didn’t do this either 🫨
He seems like the most down to earth rock star. Watching him play basketball is a major contrast from his guitar dexterity 😂

When Paul Gibert does these interviews he seems to be focused on all time A leaguers' Ronnie, Randy....

Whoah, Paul Gilbert and Steve Vai are slowly becoming the same person!
This has been true for Henry Rollins and David Lee Roth for some time...

Paul is sensational even more we he is not shredding!
I NEED A PAUL GILBERT SCANDIANVIAN METAL ALBUM YESTERDAY
Woundnt a thunk no whammy but seriously don't miss it with Paul
Is that a Fender Twin? Would love to know which pedal is used here to get that distortion!
Ritchie Blackmore was a top 4 guitarist in the world.
Hi guys , me i love DIO until Lock up the wolves. After that they have tune their guitars in E flat.
How come when I pick up an Ibanez and a yellow Tortex pick I don't sound like that?
What exactly is Paul using here for his tone, amp, pedals?
