I was once drunk in KC and walked into the Grand Emporium I think it was. Joe was up on stage playing a solo. Out of the corner of my eye I saw a guy throw a bottle at him. He dodged it nicely. I couldn’t believe anyone would throw something at any musician let alone one of the best. The bouncer grabbed me and began to throw me out. While Joe kept playing with his left hand. He basically did sign language with his right hand to the bouncer. Told him no not him that guy beside him. All with one hand while still playing. It was amazing. The bouncer apologized. Shook my hand and so did Joe after the show. Cool dude. Very humble even though he’s probably earned the right to be arrogant. Class act. On and off the stage.

I was waiting for Satch and Johnson to come out so I could get their autograph and say "Hello." It was getting late and my friend was outside in the cold waiting because he didn't have a backstage pass. So I decided to leave because I thought Satch wasn't coming. As I am leaving out the back door, Satch and his manager come down the stairs and where on their way out the door. I quickly handed him my CD booklet and his manager said "Ok. We can do one." so then Satch signed my Time Machine CD book. I didn't get to talk to him but at least got his autograph as he was leaving. I was able to talk to Vai and he was super nice. I asked him about Bad Horsie. He plays the beginning in Crossroads and I asked if he had the song fully written at that time or wrote the intro for the movie and finished the song later. He said he had the whole song.

It’s just so richly awarding to see the love and friendship these two have for each other. Both fantastic role models for anyone wanting to learn a musical instrument. Only one issue: the interview wasn’t long enough!
These interviews are like scratching that itch no other interviews scratch. They're like the ultimate "have a beer with this artist" vibe but willing to go full nerd-out and get the deep details.

So, So great to see good friends Steve and Joe together and collaborating in making new music, brilliant. Thank you Rick for doing what you do, for the benefit of us all.
Was at the G3 concert in Toronto featuring Joe, John Pertuccu and Paul Gilbert. I was quite fortunate to have waited outside after the show, got a picture with Paul and he signed my cd and ticket stub. I was definitely thrilled!! Then Joe popped his head out the door and maybe signed 4-5 pieces. One was my ticket stub!
I only have one Steve Vai story. I just happened to leave my credit card at the Orange PEEL one night. So when they reopened at 2 the next afternoon,I showed up to the venue with a large crowd outside for sound check… all these fans were confused when I walked right thru the door while I was asking what the crowd was here for. They said Steve Vai and I said I’m not that familiar with him. I sat in the corner and was mesmerized by his talent. Needless to say, the folks waiting outside were a bit jealous when I told them how much I just enjoyed that hour.
2005, I believe… I looked it up last night and saw that the previous night was ‘Monsters of Japan’… I used to be friends with some of them which explains why I left my cc… They were a quirky, punkisk version of KISS with tones of the WWF. It wasn’t my cup of tea but it led me to Steve Vai the next day… things I miss about Asheville, the 30 ways to change your day options available.
Thank you for interviewing these two legends! I grew up listening to Vai's Passion and Warfare and Joe's Extremist albums religiously. Learned to play Summer Song and Rubina's Blue Sky Happiness at 12 years old. Well, at least my closest approximations of them, haha 😂. Just saw them live for G3 in Los Angeles, and they're still killin' it! Thank you, gentlemen, for all the years of great music.

"What do I need to learn or not learn. [ ] There has to be a real interest in order for there to be any retention". This is so true regardless whether it is music or anything else you choose to do in life. It is such a challenge these days to get young people to not just recognize their interests and chosen paths, but to commit in both time and energy to wanting and needing to know everything there is to know to succeed at those interests. He said, he would've played even if nobody had showed up because he just loved music. Such a humble man and a beautiful soul. 🙏 I loved this interview, it took me back to those days. Thank you!
It’s just so richly awarding to see the love and friendship these two have for each other. Both fantastic role models for anyone wanting to learn a musical instrument. Only one issue: the interview wasn’t long enough!
Yes. I would've loved more 😅
Thank You MR Beato for all of these Epic interviews...
One of the most important channels in TH-cam history
Wow, that final praise from two of the greats, congrats 👏🏻
Educational fun ahhh the Stories. Loved every single audio frame on this one Joe Rick an Steve!
Two legends....i mean 3 legends !
I cannot believe what I just saw - 2 of my guitar heroes in my favourite show on the planet Earth. Kudos Mr. Beato!
good to see and listen to two of my influences over the years Thanx Joe Thanx Steve
These interviews are like scratching that itch no other interviews scratch. They're like the ultimate "have a beer with this artist" vibe but willing to go full nerd-out and get the deep details.
Well said, Amen to that.
You know..whatever people think about Joe..there's no denying his influence and musicianship on the guitarists we probably all love who are watching this.hes not shredder either..total genius musician
The lifelong friendship really shows in this interview. What an absolute treasure. Thank you Rick!
Just an utterly delightful interview - I was smiling the entire way through!
Such a great interview by two of the greatest guitar players in history. Rick's interviews are always so amazing!
Beato is the bomb. God, when I discovered Joe and Steve, I played their albums endlessly. Even took a road trip with my folks and forced them to listen to Joe so many times that they finally told me to stop. lol. This interview just does my heart so much joy, I can’t f*cking stand how happy it makes me. Two of my favorite musicians with a dude that does f*cking awesome interviews that I really dig. Man, just epic. Makes me want to dig up all their music and binge the crap out of it. Keep up the epic work, Rick. You da man.
So, So great to see good friends Steve and Joe together and collaborating in making new music, brilliant. Thank you Rick for doing what you do, for the benefit of us all.
This is GOLD, thank you, Rick!
0: that’s sick!!
Which year was this?
I've played the Orange Peel (Asheville NC is my hometown) I saw King Crimson there.

@@dirtydeadasheville which member are you? I’ve hung out with John before. His father was Don right?
This is history being written. Thank you Rick.
Just wonderful ….i’m not a guitarist but loved every minute of this
Thank you for interviewing these two legends!
Great to see Steve & Satch come full circle from childhood with that bond of creative expression only getting deeper. And Rick coming full circle interviewing Steve again as the go to Musician's Interviewer Extraordinare in 2024. Can't wait for the next one!
Just went to see them 2 days ago! Wonderful show.
I used to jamm joe satrriani's "surfing with the alien"on my way to drug classes..im drug free..but the satch could sooth my soul in some times of depression
This is the most EPIC representation of student and master, EVER RECORDED!!!
Interviews such as this are absolutely priceless as a means to mentor and to realize that even the best among us sometimes struggle to be who they are.
And again, so much respect from Steve and Joe to Rick for who he is and what he is doing. So awesome.
Mamma Mia ! Italians and the guitar-Fantastico Meraviglioso Stupendo Formidabile Splendido . ...All such kind big hearted thoughtful funny brave generous Maestros teachers and eternal students....Guitar Mates ....such an awesome conversation.....smiled non stop...Thank you so much for THE MUSIC Supreme ..Bravissimo ..Grazie...ROCK ON ....🔥
These two players were MASSIVE influences on me. They pretty much shaped my 80s-90s. Thanks, Rick for getting such incredible guests once again!
"There are no rules, just cause and effect" is one of the most profound pieces of music playing advice I've ever heard.
Thank so much for another killer interview, Rick. Keep 'em comin'!
I'm an old guitarist and this channel is the best ever.
Steve and Joe just came to my city of Richmond, Virginia. Living legends!
Steve's set was probably the loudest concert I've ever seen. 😂
Literally every video release I go "Holy shit, Rick's interviewing another one of my heroes", only to see yet another awesome interview. Amazing channel!
Saw them both live last night. Insane show, was surreal.
Man I hope they're recording at least one of them for those of us who aren't able to attend.
