    del cd LUA AMARELA ( jazztojazz.com )
Rita Payés & Joan Chamorro grup
    22 junio 2016 sala Jamboree
    Joan Chamorro ( contrabajo )
    Rita Payés ( trombon y voz )
Andrea Motis ( trompeta y voz)
    Ignasi Terraza ( piano)
    Enrique Oliver (saxo tenor)
    Esteve Pi ( drums )

Somehow I missed this oldie from 3 years ago until now -- but wow, I'm glad I found it! Rita was in top form, and so was everyone else that night. And the vocals at the end are like icing on the cake -- sweet and yummy!

I just cant believe Andrea and Rita. They are both awesome players, and so young to be playing with that kind of maturity. Joan is one clever man to find and nurture these two.

Love, your magic spell is everywhere
Love, I know you well and found you fair
Then you left me and my life's at fate
Now I ask is it too late
Love your melody is in the air
Yet I call you and you are not there
Come here is my heart, my soul to mate
Make me forget the voice that whispers "wait"

Thrilling! to hear young players playing with such depth and swinging so hard. People of your age never used to play like that. You guys are in the groove and you are getting better so quickly! I mean Rita you sound like JJ Johnson with those lip triplets and the doodle tongueing, WOW! And Andrea you have always had great ears but your fingers are making it happen and the upper register is getting stronger too, really sweet tone. trumpet can really be a beast but you make it look easy. Oh and vocals are world class. You all are the future of jazz!

One small but telling detail about Rita's extraordinary playing: at one point in her solo she makes a two octave leap upward (A to A, 1:32, bars 28 and 29). That kind of jump on trombone is a recipe for disaster, an almost certain clam, but she chooses it, and makes it with perfect confidence. This one is absolutely fearless.

No one told her that you can't do that--so she just went ahead. (Just like Max playing jazz solos on french horn--you're not supposed to be able to do that either.) This is why breakthroughs are made by young people. Older folks already know that certain things just can't be done!

My Father was an accomplished pianist almost up to concert standard at his best. For some reason he decided he would also like to play trombone and took it up. But found it more demanding than he had anticipated. We should not underestimate what these young musicians accomplish at Sant Andreu

Wow Andrea - your playing is solid! - as Louis Armstrong would say of fellow musicians he admired. I first saw you on YT about 8 years ago playing Tiger Rag in a large group at a public concourse somewhere (a hot performance itself, given its tempo). Looks like you are ready to conquer the world. Booked for Montreux 2017?

The first line is "Love your magic spell is everywhere". Searching on Spotify, add "magic" to the title to find the most versions. It was first sung in 1929 by Gloria Swanson in a film The Trespasser. Kate Smith recorded it the same year.

I’m just discovering this myself. I knew it from the Blues-ette album of Curtis Fuller with Benny Golson which is a favorite of mine. I am sure that this version as a duet was inspired by that 1959 recording. Then, today I found Gloria Swanson (who I never knew could sing) here on TH-cam. Much older song than I thought.

compared to old jazz players, now we do not have players that are as passionate as before. Now, they play like they make exercises on couple of notes without feeling them.

    • @fliprim
      @fliprim 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

You appear to have been astonishingly unlucky in your choices. SAJB alumni make instrumentalists matching some of the greatest... ever.
Here is Elia Bastida, long time saxophonist, putting even Grappelli into an also-ran position.
      th-cam.com/video/kxq3AB19DAk/w-d-xo.html
Here they all display huge passion, even fluffing a sax run (very rare) they get so enthusiastic.
      th-cam.com/video/gHM2jTJS8r8/w-d-xo.html
If Rita and Enrique aren't passionate about this, I simply have no idea what you are talking about.

Is the girl in trombone pregnant, her dress looks like a maternity dress and at the end she holds the top of her stomach like I've seen them do when they're pregnant, just curious.
