She was truly the best contralto ever. There will never be another "Sassy Sarah", and Billy Eckstine, what can I say with his sultry unforgettable voice? Simply brilliant. They are both missed dearly. RIP ❤️❤️❤️
Sarah Vaughan started out with Billy Exsteines band. She’s still number one when it comes to a voice and vocal range that I can never get enough of . Great combination Sarah & Billy.
Ella and Billie are wonderful. Truly. They are in the Pantheon. But... Sarah Vaughan? She is... The Queen. Also... yeah, she knew very well how to use her voice and also had a sharp ear. For me, she is...
So soft spoken yet could sing like the roar of a LION! Such magnificance, control and style. Wow! one of GOD's wonders. Classically, a LADY of her own distinction.
Man I will continue to say this time and time again.. If these so called singers knew or even had any idea where they have come from musically!! We would see greatness too a point. Not like this but very poised. This is an art form.. This is what and who these Singers were.. They were artists that should never be forgotten and always treasured for what they did..
please!! this is how you use a voice...Sarah totally eats this "body and soul".... she has transcended the form of the song melody! She lived inside this song for 40years ...this cheesy arrangement melts into her brilliance. Genius and a gift from the universe. The first 'you' she soars and hits from nowhere..like omg...i cant breath it is so thrilling to feel this. She continued to build that magnificent instrument until her death, she never lost anything , she just added and got more beautiful each note.. And Billy ? simply wow even here where he moves to the last journey of his voice that deep clear voice vibrato is hugging us. and yeah as Billy says "sing it baby"
....i saw this the night it 1st aired....mesmerizing....time stood still when they sang....and when he told her .....sing it baby...i just shook my head....grown folks music....
@Curtis Ostriker Your ear must be in your foot, they each had their 'own' gifts, it not necessary to make comparisons . . . I love them both! If anything Sarah is the one that got dished for vocal acrobatics, which I, happen love everything she did, top, bottom and mid-range . . . Sarah 'The Devine One' - Ree 'The Queen'
@Curtis Ostriker I appologize if I hurt yo' sensibities, but if you can't stand the heat stay outta the Kitchen. Take care, be safe and keep your hands clean "Rona" virus.
There are no more singers like Ms. Vaughn and Mr. Eckstine anymore. I miss the quality of their voices, the dignity with which they presented themselves and the regal bearing they all had. I predict that their songs and styles must return.
Sarah, could do things with her sensational unique heavenly voice that no other woman singer has matched to this day. She is in the same one of a kind league as Ella Fitzgerald, Dame Shirley Bassey......amazing control, and so many different timbres to put the words across and those long phrases!
+HandwhistlerBen Two cents here! Etta James would have been too and a top contender too if she had only sung some standard tunes besides the two or three albums she did. Why she went so blue was crazy as her biggest hits in the mainstream were At Last and My Foolish Heart, but I guess she had problems way beyond choice of music. Anyway this video of Sarah Vaughn is a gem of gems. ciao, and lol.
Brings tears of joy to the eyes! There is only one Sarah Vaughn. Billy was a perfect compliment to her voice. Look for Easter Parade by this duo. Amazing!
Wow! Even as her voice changed through the years, she was still ‘Divine’........no one ever to sing like her again, beyond classic.....I have been listening to her since I was 5 years old. She was my father’s favorite singer....
Just silky smooth exceptional vocals. Class all the way! What phenomenal music! The World of music ain't like this no more. Too many haters, fakes and clowns out there!
I could kick myself repeatedly for not taking advantage of her performances at The Blue Note, in New York. I never got to see her in person, thank God for these videos...She's beyond words.
The greats ♥️ This is how it's done with class. Ms.Vaughn had a remarkable vocal range and,Mr. Eckstine had a voice like smooth velvet. I grew up listening to both. Thanks for sharing.
Wonderful, superb n spell binding rendition. Sarah Vaughan was a great showbiz lady with a mellifluous voice dat brought jazz to the highest level. My deepest respects.
I cam home from school (1954) and the song on the radio, stunned me on the spot! It was Billy Eckstine singing 'Know one but you'. Each time I hear it, I am reminded of that simpler, better, wholesome life in Briain in the 50's!
At this point in her life, she was having such fun being creative and enjoying the variety of contrasts and surprises she could offer to the listeners. What a joyful person! Thanks, Sarah.
GEEZ....what greatness the list of black singers is endless...no female singer of the last 50 years comes close to the great black women singers...with the single exception of kd lang.....how sad...todays blacks think rap is music and have made it the crack of music...
Believe me, EVERYONE knows Sarah Vaughn as one of the greatest JAZZ singers on this or any other earth. I don't know who you know, but I've never met anyone who doesn't know her! Glad you discovered her. Keep listening.
Brought tears to my eyes. The inimitable Sassy Sarah in pitch perfect top of her form, wow! I never saw this before and it blew me away. A wonderful treat. Thanks so much.
What beautiful voices what great talent what class . And yet today people who have never heard them have lost a lesson in talent class and beautiful music
That’s what you call an undeniably brilliant singer. I’ve been taking vocal lessons in the last year, and listening to her singing for me is so satisfying because she has really, really knew how to do it and deeply understood its artistry. Thank you for sharing this amazing piece of art.
I discovered Sara Vaughn when I was in my teens. Even though James Brown, Marvin Gaye and a host of great R&,B singers dominated the late sixties and seventie and eighties,. You always found your way back to jazz.
They were busy making love up there - to each other and to their audience. What a wonder to see them, hear them. What treasures. Thankfully, there were captured on record and film for us to forever hold dear.
Sarah was never wobbly. Billy did develop a vocal wobble, but Sarah never developed a wobble. Even with his wobble, Eckstine remained one of the suavest performers to grace the microphone, He was an icon to many.
Thanks for adding Sarah Vaughan to our listening - she's been my favorite all my long life...but I never had heard her piano playing though I knew she played and sang from her early New Jersey school and church years. And always love Billy E, too! Imagine their talents/friendships!
She was truly the best contralto ever. There will never be another "Sassy Sarah", and Billy Eckstine, what can I say with his sultry unforgettable voice? Simply brilliant. They are both missed dearly. RIP ❤️❤️❤️

Sarah & Billy.....doesn't get better than that!!!!! CREAM OF THE CROP!!!!
I’m only 21 years young but I have to say, her voice uplifts my spirit and she’s such a legend! COME THROUGH VOICE! 👏🏾
This is why she is called "The Divine One". Love her!!!!!!!
Awesome, now that's singing.
GOD’S GIFTS TO MUSIC ❤️💙🙏🏾🙏🏾
Probably the best voice ever and she knew how to use it. Wow!
I'm not sure i agree....b/c of Ella and Billie...decisions decisions 🤔

Lady Day ist naturally the greatest singer. After her comes Sarah Vaughan.
I can't decide which is most devine her high notes or her low note both are perfect
This has got to be THEE BEST EVER vocal rendition of "Body and Soul". Sarah is killing !!!!!!!!!!
Checkout the 1946 recording!
So soft spoken yet could sing like the roar of a LION! Such magnificance, control and style. Wow! one of GOD's wonders. Classically, a LADY of her own distinction.
Sarah has this powerful voice, then this little girl like speaking voice. Wow!

Il n'y en a pas beaucoup qui peuvent avoir cette voix-là à cet âge, et que cela fasse joli.
One of televisions greatest musical moments. The Devine One with Mr. B. True Icons Forever.
No one can replicate that voice. Her ranges are out of this world.
Her phrasing was wonderful
She was known as the master of the microphone. She used it in conjunction with her voice to accentuate the dynamics- Absolutely Brilliant

+HandwhistlerBen ..A perfect vocalist!
I shouldn't have put Shirley into that category! Dinah Washington and Billie Holiday are in that group with Ella and Sarah.
+HandwhistlerBen

She drove people crazy with her voice from start to end true true diva star legend goddess angel

She was totally wonderful. Seriously moving knowing they're both gone. They were great. Right? The real thing. Over and out.
I loved how both of them turned and waved at the musicians as they left the stage , Classy !
