Absolutely beautiful performance by Rita Payes - and sensitive accompaniment by Davis Whitfield. Payes sometimes channels Billie Holiday - I don't mean she imitates her - just that there is a very deep connection with the honesty and purity of her singing. And her trombone playing is also absolutely beautiful. Flawless really. She is a gift. Nobody like her.
I can't agree more. Perhaps her honesty in her singing will be in that she does not consider herself singing, in fact does not study singing, she sings because she likes it. I heard this from her in a radio interview. I think it's the reason you feel so close and come so intensely. In any case it is unique. I'm an unconditional fan. I can't deny it.
Wish I was going live long enough to hear sing (on trombone and voice) when she is my age. If she can sing like that she doesn’t need lessons. The trombone sound made me cry.
Yes reminiscent of Billie Holiday and Anita O’Day but with a sweetness and feeling that’s all Rita’s own. She has the greatest jazz singing voice and a soft, feminine singing trombone that’s exquisitely beautiful.
I have a half a dozen emotions pass through me as I follow the children of Barcelona grow and grow--with charm and technique and jazz intelligence. Rita is a gem that's been cut and is getting polished year by year..
Rita: Your voice moves my heart, your trombone playing is so smooth and tender, you are beautiful. Please never stop releasing music. Davis: Your piano was stunning and masterful. I can't wait to hear more of your playing.
Rita is amazingly productive. All videos are documents of the development of voice and instrument. This version with such a sensitive text is a little highlight. The trombone solo is of convincing simplicity and intimacy. No superfluos phrases, no higher and faster than others, no false sentimentality. This is the real virtuosity. It deserves better camera work.
What a talent! Rita sings and plays with such feeling that if it weren't for her youth, you'd think that she experienced all the emotions inherent in the song. She's marvelous.!!!
They’re both new to me and I’m SO happy I found this! Super tasty piano, intimate vocals, and gorgeous trombone tone. Not to worry, I think the youngsters have got the jazz thing totally covered!
Black and white suits this tune perfectly. Rita is getting better and better both as a singer and as a trombonist, here with an inspired pianist Davis Whitfield. He is a gem. And Ritas solo on trombone is something to listen to over and over again.
Beautiful rendition ...... perfect accompaniment .... Rita's playing and singing continues to gain strength .... Please come to NYC .... thanks, everyone !!!
I keep listening to this over and over. I love the sound of her voice and her trombone playing is off the charts. I've often said that her tone is a cross between Carl Fontana and JJ Johnson. This one, in all honesty comes off as that cross between Fontana and Watrous. Just incredible. And, of course, I would be remiss without mentioning how fantastically Davis Whitfield put the keys behind her and an amazing solo.
Weiter so! Immer weiter so!
Rita, Rita, Rita, I'd never blame it on your heart!😍😍😍 love love love your playing and Mr. Whitfield you did a fantastic job on the piano 🎹! Thank you both for sharing! Much appreciated!
This is the last song at a party or the bittersweet closing song in a movie. *And if I cried a little bit/ When first I learned the truth/ Don't blame it on my heart/ Blame it on my youth.* Rita Payes sings this 1934 song (Oscar Levant and Edward Heyman) and makes it sound as fresh as today's rain.
Wow qué romántico Rita tienes una forma de cantar tan dulce me encanta cómo lo haces El pianista maravilloso Qué tándem hacéis....... felicidades y gracias por hacernos tan felices I feel so happy listening your música It a so warm.....calidez ❤️Tienes la calidez de las grandes jazz women
In my teens I played the trombone. Rita has a great sound that is very refined. It is a shame in most of modern music these types of instruments are no longer popular.
Have been following these amazing young jazz artists all the way from Los Angeles for a couple of years now. Authentic original artistry with first class performances. Can't stop listening...
Oh, that is so sweet, so real, so moving. Thank you, Rita and Davis - and the excellent camera work bringing another dimension to the performance - amazing!
Oi, Rita. Escrevendo aqui do Brasil.
What a bold professional she is, changing from one voice to the other with a flip of her left hand, both perfectly aligned to the basic but elevated piano. Love it that both voices are clear as sunshine! He then shows where his mind is, well outside the ordinary. Next, they find common grounds, without compromising. Blessed you are - what next?

Thanks for identifying the pianist. Certainly deserves the recognition. I, too, agree with your assessments.
Wow I thought the same also! Love her vocals however!

The piano in this was utterly first-class.
How about the pianist ?
....any mssg he sends ?
Totalmente de acuerdo !!!!
thats what i thought too ! so good!
Piano. Tasty and sensitive
Rita has truly found her jazz voice and lifted up this heart wrenchingly beautiful ballad in an amazing performance.
Bravo!
Lady, you are astonishingly talented. I honestly can't believe it.
Piano genial. Trombon hipnotizante. Voz adictiva.
Her voice continuously evolving into something beautifully mature and so is her trombone playing.
Rita continues to impress with her pitch and phrasing.
I really wish to see her perform!
I think Jazz-Horn players make the very best vocalists. I love the phrasing and pitch control too!
Rita...una Artista Maravillosa !!!!!
@@downhill240 Especially on an instrument like the trombone. It has no keys or valves to help with finding the pitch.
Rita Payes!
Rita: Your voice moves my heart, your trombone playing is so smooth and tender, you are beautiful. Please never stop releasing music.

Rita never disappoints. A subtle blending of proficiency and candor.
Her playing is just as beautiful as she is.
They’re both new to me and I’m SO happy I found this! Super tasty piano, intimate vocals, and gorgeous trombone tone. Not to worry, I think the youngsters have got the jazz thing totally covered!
We are lucky that you exist, Rita : a really great singer and nice artist.
My opinion. Rita doesn’t need to channel anyone, her voice is hers and she should just sing.
Rita....one of my favorites....1' mo'

Rita you just made my day. I love you girl. Kept the music playing. I can't describe or compare you to anyone you have your own style. Stay safe.
Rita is brilliant! Great vocal and trombone solo!
Black and white suits this tune perfectly. Rita is getting better and better both as a singer and as a trombonist, here with an inspired pianist Davis Whitfield. He is a gem. And Ritas solo on trombone is something to listen to over and over again.

Rita & Davis, that was beautiful!!! I had to listen to it a few times! I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Lovely just lovely. Anyone hear of Davis before? Lovely piano, such a different touch from the Barcelona pianists she usually plays with...
You don’t have to blame it on your Youth- Your Youth is serving you quite well! You 2 sound beautiful!
What a voice... so sensual and deep... congratulations! You take the song to a superior level. And the pianist is very good, too. Regards to him.
